At least burton and Hartlepool over the next few weeks gives us a few opportunities to get some minutes into some of the fringe and development players

You're inviting a lot of grief from the traditionalists for lumping a dead rubber Checkatrade game in with the FA cup!

That's a decent result against a team with a hugely impressive home record. Really pleased Forino allayed my fears about him!
Sounds like Mehmeti played well coming off the bench. Hopefully that may earn him a start in the replay. Would be nice to have a few more players available, we don't want to throw away our good work by getting beat at home.
If we’d have played a league game today the team would have been different. I’m not buying it Gareth. Still not forgiven you for the Tranmere surrender

I agree. I can't believe that there's any chance we'd have gone in today without Stewart or Taf for a league game. I think it's one of those political "knocks" type explanations.
However, we've sort of got away with it to some extent thank goodness.
Don’t know too much about Forino but clearly he made an impact today. Displacing Taf or Stewart is a near impossible job so clearly he has to be patient. But what do people think? Real deal?
Can we have some credit where it’s due instead of moaning and speculating about the manager’s team selection?
Sunderland lost at home to Mansfield, Wigan were held at home by Solihull, Accrington were hammered at Port Vale, Ipswich were held at home by Oldham.
These games are a lot more difficult than some people seem to realise.
I believe that we had a few knocks, but I also agree that we wouldn't have started that 11 in a league game. But that's fine - there shouldn't still be such a stigma (or any stigma, for that matter) surrounding the concept of rotation in 2021.

Would have been a brave decision to give Curtis a penalty.
The mustard is out of the fridge
Sunderland forum will be lively tonight !
Mustard in the fridge. Absolute madness
A replay it is. Serves us right.
At least it's at home

Two years running Sunderland have gone out with a 1-0 home loss to Mansfield in R1
At least the town and facilities should handle Hartlepool midweek better than we did Ipswich!
If the Portsmouth game was to be called off our strongest starting 11 to start the replay?
They can concentrate on regaining their rightful place.

Think that happened when they picked the team.

I will say, for all my disappointment in how we approached this game, I’m thrilled that Forino got a goal.
Didn't know this. Impressive!

Pools have one of the best home records in the league; it was always going to be difficult even without injuries.

Going by Gaz's post-match interview, it sounds like Pompey will be on.
That would be superb for every reason.
Does anyone know where Akinfenwa was?
Just rested
The short version, many are calling for Lee Johnson to go, with Warnock (sacked today by Middlesbrough) being a popular candidate to replace him.
