Brilliant gesture from the club. I think Chelsea did the same to us for the LC semi-final, didn't they?
That article is terribly written though, like this quote from the LC manager: "Every single one of their staff members, without fail, has been unavailable"
Contradicts the entire piece and makes no sense. Anyone any idea what word it should be rather than 'unavailable'?
Having caught up with all the post match discussion and heard pleasingly positive comments about one or two of the little-known youngsters, could I add my voice to those of others who have expressed surprise (a) that Anis Mehmeti played 45 minutes, risking injury in a match that pales into insignificance in the context of our efforts to return to the level at which he has already proved himself and, slightly less surprisingly (b) that he has only played 9 minutes from the bench in our lady two League games.
I know that he wore strapping on his right (?) leg for a couple of games recently so perhaps he is being ‘nursed’ back to full fitness. Last night’s game surely had the potential to disrupt that process. I know it’s early days and probably not a valid analogy but one or two of us have a little niggle at the back of our minds that the Kashket situation might be repeating itself.
Proof reading or reporting? Former colleagues used to laugh at the fact that I always wrote detailed reports on all Wycombe’s matches that I attended filed and hoarded with the matchday programme. I also had many a letter published in the BFP, many about the football club.
We continue to be a class act. The money will make a huge difference to Long Crendon. Certainly again disappointing the behaviour of one individual. Not sure what more the club can do.
We all do daft things @micra . I am the proud owner of a statistical analysis of the frequency of each letter on Wordle (R is the most common even beating E for those interested). I got back four months before even I recognised that was even sadder than learning the UK's postcodes....
@micra I imagine that they were conscious of Mehmeti's lack of recent minutes in selecting him. In the half he played, he looked more than a class apart (although Young was also excellent) and, while still wearing that heavy strapping, appeared in excellent nick. His movement was great, but his ability to leave defenders for dead with a deft flick or feint took the breath away at times: a privilege to watch.
What did you mean by "repeating the Kashket situation" by the way. And any one know what has happened to him - doesn't seem to feature for Crewe - injured?

Sadly some embarrassing chanting from our maligned drummer behind the goal during the second half.
Nothing particularly outrageous, but is there really any need to sing “fuck off crendon” on repeat for most of the second half at a B&B game?
You're right, nothing particularly outrageous, no real malice there, no different to the language used on this message board every so often.
I wasn't offended by the chanting, I use bad language all the time, including at football games, and on this forum.
I was just embarrassed by it. But other people from Thame and Crendon who we could have won over as WWFC fans definitely were offended by it, and probably have a much poorer perspective of our club as a result. If you're alright with that, good for you, but I'm not.
As someone else said, it's about knowing your audience. I'd join in with some profanity-laden singing myself vs the likes of Oxford or MK, if I'm not stood right next to a young family, and the lyrics are remotely funny or witty.
I'm not trying to be all high and mighty about language here. Football would be poorer spectator sport IMO without a bit of mild hostility and occassional profanity.
But at a B&B game vs Crendon on a Tuesday night there's no need for hostility at all. It's a (glorified) friendly fixture for gods sake. Muscling your way into limited covered terrace full of families with young kids sheltering from the rain, getting pissed up and shouting fuck off and cunt for 90 minutes can't be compared to some bad language written on a football forum. Unless you think this forum is full of kids under 10?
I remember the postcode posts (on the Gasroom) a few years ago. I didn’t believe it at the time but the fact that you’ve mentioned it again suggests that it was probably true! I saw nothing unusual at the time about my report writing. I occasionally stumble across one or two of them and I can now see that it was a slightly unusual obsession.

Just cant imagine this being tolerated? Makes me feel old and old fashioned
@OxfordBlue@MBS Have read your comments with interest. All I can say is that I was under the covered terrace for around 10 to 15 minutes at the start of the second half. I honestly don't remember any truly offensive chanting during that time. If it happened at other times during the game, fair enough, I'm not going to say it didn't, but I did notice that there were a couple of police officers around that area while I was there. Did they take any action? If not, why not?
What I do find sad is the constant calling out of one particular individual, often by name, for misdeeds including banging his drum out of time, swearing at football matches etc. Don't we routinely have a group of maybe 50 people shouting "you're f*****g s**t" etc. at various times during matches, for all to hear (including children)? And is banging a drum out of time really a massive crime? Not to everyone's taste, I get that, but worthy of the amount of stick dished out to him?
Don't know how many people making comments on here actually know the guy, but I can tell you that as long as you treat him with respect, he is one of the nicest people you could meet. Speaking to him after the Lincoln game, when his excellent drumming had lifted the atmosphere to a level not experienced recently, he seemed really happy and upbeat. However, over the last two or three years, he probably hasn't been treated sympathetically enough by some people, especially taking into account his own personal situation. So, why the constant scapegoating of one individual as if he is solely responsible for all that is bad within our fanbase?
I don't mean to single Tom the drummer out all on his own, he was one of about 5 or 6 main culprits.
I've stuck up for him a lot in the past, I understand why allowances should, and indeed a number of times have, been made. Some people have been unnecessarily cruel to him online and in person and I'm not defending those people. I'm sorry if it comes across like a personal vendetta, its not.
Again, I'm not saying it was anywhere near the most offensive chanting I've heard at a football game. It just seemed totally unnecessary given the type of fixture.

This sums up a lot of the issues that come up. Tom's never completely out of bounds (that I've seen), but the constant complete lack of awareness of the situation around him ends up causing problems and aggro.

@Username But isn't that lack of awareness a possible result of his personal situation?
I'd have thought that someone with a posting history on here suggesting they like to be seen as "socially-aware" would have recognised that.
I'm totally aware of it, it's the crux of the problem. I get on fine with Tom personally, but that doesn't give him carte blanche to piss off hundreds of people regularly. That has inevitable eventual consequences.
He needs some friends who are good influences around him to have a quiet word every now and then, but that's far from my impression of what's happening.
Not a terrace dweller or away traveller so I would not recognise the fella and have no axe to grind...beyond us all being called c***s at one stage when he was off to find another club...but do all his mates have the same issues and lack of awareness that should be excused or do they try to rein him in? The problem is, as some have pointed out, without everyone around him knowing the issues involved there is a always a chance of things kicking off.

Err .... available?
I'm in the "unbelievable" camp.
Agree with that @DevC.
Before @HCblue jumps on me, please insert comma after ‘that’! I’d never refer to him as that !
In the BFP's defence, sure it's a mistake, but I do think they've been clearly trying to beef up the WW coverage a lot recently.

I hope we are well wide of the mark.
Lady two games !! Last, of course.
Looking for a job at the BFP @micra ?

Best leave it at that !
POTD
It would be four thumbs but I’ve hit the wrong one yet again and, although you can correct it, you can’t then give a thumbs up. Great post.
Well put @OxfordBlue and I think a lot of people feel the same.

Ian Baker says that Wycombe's share of the gate receipts was about £5000.
I'm looking forward to the day when Long Crendon have a shiny new ground in the village and we are invited to play the opening match.

Drivel

I’m sorry, f’ing and c’ing in a game of that stature at a non league club in a mixed terrace is completely unacceptable.
It’s a world away from the likes of matches with PNL or Franchise.
Yesterday should have been a celebration for Wanderers fans, there’s absolutely no excuse for that type of behaviour.
Totally agree. Surely some of his mates need to step forward and have a word. Not acceptable, one person impacts so negatively on so many.
