For background, McLean refuses to acknowledge the national anthem of the nation where he has made a living, photographed himself wearing a Spain football shirt just before the Euro final and has been accused of being an IRA sympathiser. He is, of course, perfectly entitled to hold those views.
I am looking forward to it. An opportunity to tick off the town's Wetherspoons and a groundhop at Brickfield Rangers before. 20 minutes walk away in case anyone fancies two games.
He grew up on the same estate as 6 of the victims of Bloody Sunday - it's hardly a surprise he's not a huge fan of British (specifically English) institutions. For what it's worth, he regularly contributes to charity fundraisers for individuals who need some cash (e.g. helped pay for the funeral of a two year old who was hit by a car). He's by no means a perfect man (who amongst us is?) but he is nowhere near a Joey Barton type (not saying that you said he was, but someone has mentioned the two in the same post).
I just got tickets for me and the daughter and we’re really looking forward to it.
My wife and son would like to come along, so if anyone has two STs they are not using, I’d really appreciate using them to get two more tickets so we can make a family weekend if it.
If anyone is able to help, I could send PayPal or bank transfer immediately.
I could then email the club and ask them to sit us all together as they are yet to allocate then.
James Mcclean should be made to treat his adopted nation with respect like Brits do in Spain and everywhere else they go.... He's an aggressive footballer and he has some views, wasn't so long ago a Wycombe player was doing similar. It's good really that he has a bit of a sense of humour about the abuse he gets, most of which is poorly informed and over the top.
Does not liking something the British Army/Government did decades ago mean you are particularly anti-english? Only in the daily mail.
I didn't like much that the last government did. Not sure it affected my ability to go to work in the morning. Well, they made the trains crap, but apart from that..
If you are referring to my original post, I pointed out undisputed facts about McClean and wrote that he was entitled to his opinion. Where’s the problem with that? I also added that if people aren’t offended by his clearly anti-English views that is their prerogative. Where’s the problem with that?
So long as they haven’t got Gary Bennett and Karl Connelly up top I can see us shutting them out on their patch and GMac and Vokes scoring to show McClean and Fletcher how it’s done.
It is a teeny bit odd seeing people complaining about McLean being anti-English while making a good living “here” without acknowledging that he does in fact now play for a Welsh club
Having spent most of his career playing for Sunderland, Wigan, West Brom, Stoke and Wigan, all of which were in England. the last time I checked a map.

He seems very far from a Barton-type
Ah he's a bit of a thug. Great to have on your team, in that he'll put it all on the line for you, but he's a rough lad make no mistake.

I wondered how his red card record might compare to Barton.
As far as I can see from this link and elsewhere on the net, it's surprisingly close
Barton 6 McClean 5

Why shouldn’t he wear a Spain shirt? He’s not English.

Drop me a PM if you might be able to help.
Thanks!
He doesn't have to support England, but does he have to antagonistically support who we're playing?
Exactly. My point was that he is clearly anti-English and if other people are happy with that then so be it, but other opinions are equally valid.
He’s not Spanish either.
Obviously not that anti-English since he's made a very nice career for himself here. Or maybe his principles are for sale.
I've dropped you a DM

I always remember "the other one" as "Tabasco boy"
Most Scots are anti-English!
Pretty much everyone except those from Edinburgh, the North London of the North.
Like all those players moving to the Saudi League and all those multi millionaires golfers selling their soul to LIV.

I like how people telling non-English people to not be anti-English then get upset when that non-English person doesn’t obey their instructions.

I wasn’t

Fair enough.
I look forward to seeing Sam Vokes scoring.
Hopefully Wrexham are as overrated as the Deadpool movies.

In the English Football League.

Apart from not pointing out that he had two spells at Wigan, I fail to see what is wrong with a factually correct record of his career.
