I let loose a spontaneous (and on reflection totally uncalled for) burst of linguistic tosh on another thread earlier and I expect to get (or have already got) the multiple downthumbing votes that I deserve.
Bookies seem confident of the Tories getting 50-99 seats. That FEELS right to me, can't see many experts saying over 99.
My hope is that with such crushing numbers is that the new government can focus everything on change and not sneering or blaming the incumbent. We are voting for change tomorrow not the continued slide into the gutter. We have so many BIG problems to deal with wasting energy on name-calling or gotcha politics will be such a waste.
It'll be absolutely hilarious if the Lib Dems come second and get to sit on the opposition benches while the tories have to sit in the naughty corner with the fruitcakes and one remaining SNP MP. That in itself is enough to make a few years of Starmer almost worthwhile.
A friend asked me today what would happen if Labour win but Starmer lost his seat to Andrew Feinstein, once I stopped chortling at the possibility, I pointed out
a) He would have to step down as leader as he would no longer be an MP
b) He would lose his seat on the NEC
c) Angela Raynor would short term have to step up as leader & PM
d) The Labour Party would have to organise a leadership contest asap in line with their rule book
I would love to believe this is a genuine possibility - it would make Friday even more interesting than it is going to be.
Ed Davey seems to have abandoned a campaign in favour of a Make A Wish Foundation national tour. I don’t know what his advisors have been up to but I can’t think of a single policy apart from taxing the F out of jet travel after he has flown by private jet to Lands End.
Thanks for answering my question about what you see as 'the problem' - sorry I've only read it today.
Applying labels to politicians is a bit like trying to apply genres to music but my assessment of Blair is that he was a liberal technocrat. Farage recently castigated both Labour and the Conservatives for being social democrats and there's some truth in that but like most of us in The West, they're also loosely liberals. I see the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are back in town: I drove past a poster in Prestwood the other day for their candidate - Yvonne somebody.
Just spoken to my son, who lives and works in Gloucestershire. He and his workmates were talking about the election at lunch today and the one guy who said he would be voting for Reform did so while eating a bag of Wotsits off a plate, with a fork.
Whatever your views, just get out and vote today and exercise your democratic responsibility. And as they say in certain Republican states of the US of A, 'vote early, vote often...'

I was going to give a thumbs up but then I thought oh no better not cos dr comgo can see who does them.
I’ve told my “friend” to leave my phone alone and clear off. Well, I didn’t say clear, I’m afraid.
Yeah, I figured that. He'll probably have noticed I've given him a few thumbs downs. 🙀
I never look and I also don't care.
You've just summarized the problem with the world today.
Well, we know you do of course albeit perhaps only on a recent one-off basis in the context of what was widely seen as recurring abuse .
I never look at who has thumbed my posts. Apparently that's the cause of all the world's problems. Maybe I should start looking.
Pretty insignificant. Surely it only means they disagree with whoever and that doesn’t worry me at all.
My comment was meant to be a joke.
This actually happened.
I know you were joking. I realised jest in time.
It’s sensitive souls like me what gets upset.

That Rishi picture calls out for a caption. I’ve been waiting for inspiration but nothing’s materialised.
Says Sunak - I didn’t realise that cheap PPE left such horrible scars.
What is happening.

-What do you do for a living?
-After tomorrow, nothing.

That would be proper popcorn stuff.

It’s kept him in the news

I'm not sure which part of that is worse @MindlessDrugHoover
At least he's got table manners.
Come on, you're a no-one on the gasroom until you've had an absolutely scathing blast from the doc.
The gasroom is full of middle age bores. Language is something us bores are all over, so it was probably the hottest thread for weeks!

Unless you're a tory, in which case stay home, save lives, protect the NHS.
