Freeman and Gape will want to play (if their fitness/injury hold out) and Wing was never staying so I am not yet terrified of what the future may bring.
If Blooms gets players in early, I'm quite excited about what he can do with a full summer to train them how he wants to play.
Thinking about it, GA never really got a chance to pick the ideal players he wanted. Seasons with little money forced him to get some unwanted players in like Garry Thompson, and try and fit in a way to get by with them. Akinfenwa wasn't much of a planned decision, which came good.
Even when the Couhigs came in and we got a bit of cash, lets not forget earlier that summer GA had to slash the playing budget and let a lot of players go - there's the story of about 3 players turning up to the first day of training that summer. GA brought in Wheeler and Fred the week before the season started. Thinking that through, it's remarkable we managed to start as well as we did.
It's clear that Blooms has had less of the baggage at keeping some players in that were Ainsworth men.
I'm hopeful that if MB gets a few through the door early on, and uses loans well, he'll get more of a stamp of what he wants to do.
Interesting thoughts, @prufrock_91. I know getting to the Championship has been our crowning achievement as a club, but I sometimes think getting promoted to L1 and staying there a season as a fan owned club with no money is even more incredible!
May players have money in the bank. June all is good the wage is still coming in and that BIG deal is just around the corner. July ... oh sh1t, we've been to Dubai and the credit card needs paying off I had better look closer at that terrible contract offer as it now looking pretty darn good.
Same thing every year. Don't blink too soon. Identify your targets. Make sure they are the right fit and don't overspend. There are plenty of players out there. Some we will never of heard of that will turn out to be fantastic. I remember a lad called Mawson who was on no one's radar when he arrived.
I'm more interested if we are going to be a club that loans players more effectively again. Last couple of seasons I don't think we have.
I may well be wrong ( wouldn't be the first time !) But pretty sure if a player is still under contract it doesn't normally get announced where they are off to before it runs out. In a way I hope they do tell us as it will stop a month of not knowing and speculation.
Your last paragraph is ambiguous. To me at least, it is unclear whether it is loans in or loans out that need to be more effective.
I think last season the policy was to avoid loans in as far as possible. Chem Campbell was clearly a spur of the moment decision aimed at the impossible task of filling the enormous gap left by Mehmeti’s departure. I can’t recall any other inward loans but my memory for that sort of detail is not good.
Loans out are a very different matter. There were quite a few and one or two seemed to work well. Christie Ward in particular looks like being the next development squad success.
You have opened an interesting and, I suspect, very relevant debate in the context of next season when big money for fading stars will not be available.
Surely though, if it has already been announced that the existing club will not be renewing their contract, does it matter if they are announced as signings by a new club?
Don't see why not? Existing club:, "we don't want you any more", next club: "we do, so sign here", existing club: we don't give two shites, you are no longer in our plans, goodbye! 👋
Contracts can be signed and deals completed from June 14th onwards.
Pre season? When will that all start? It always used to be the 6 weeks of hell for the players. With the opening weekend being the first weekend in August, that would put a 6 week PS starting on Monday June 26th. 5 days prior to the contracts of incoming players going "live" (unless they were unattached). Same for all clubs though so I don't think any club would complain that a player whose wage they were paying trained with his new club in the overlapping 5 days. It would be the same for their newbies as well. Swings and roundabouts.
The announcement on May 10th said talks ongoing with Gape, Wakely and Obita, so it depends on Wakely - I can't remember if anything was announced with him?
A whole month of talks doesn't make it sounds like either are likely to stay does it?
Although you never know with us if it's done and they're just looking for a decent time to reveal it.
But bearing in mind all we've had in weeks is a mention of a new kit supplier you'd have thought they probably would have released any news if there was any.
Yeah, sounds like a fair analysis. I would be disappointed to see Obita go, especially from an attacking sense. Hopefully they are saving that news up for a rainy day!
He’s probably having a holiday. He’s probably getting his agent to see if there’s better offers out there. He’s probably hoping the deal on the table will be upped.

Gary Thompson was a great if fortunate signing till his legs went. His header at Spurs was one of the all time great Wycombe goals.
I must be “going”. I don’t remember Gary Thompson.

Nothing will be announced about who's going where until the end of June, they are all under contract until then. June will be a long month !
There's the first gasroom klaxon of the summer.
Using the Mawson example.
Are you saying we never announce signings before July 1st?

I remembered after the Torquay season we made some big announcements pretty quickly - eg Pierre
16th May

BBC link (now expired) same date as above
There is a July 1st post from Wycombe - but on looking at it, it's a "roundup of the summer signings" type job, not original announcement.

Oddly, despite seemingly having 100s of development keepers, we actually had a loanee keeper in the second half of the season.
Played 1 game. Presumably some sort of agreement in the contract.
You must be relieved Messi or Ronaldo never joined us!
They're not meant to be defenders

Don't think it does work this way to be honest.
Could you imagine the rage if we didn't hear about transfers until July 1st each season?!
Deals literally get announced as early as 6 months ahead of time when it's a free transfer
Don't see why not? Existing club:, "we don't want you any more", next club: "we do, so sign here", existing club: we don't give two shites, you are no longer in our plans, goodbye! 👋
Can I imagine the Gasroom every summer?
I mean it doesn't work the way Holmer said, i.e. only announcing it on July 1st!
Imagine the gasroom with a guarantee of no news until July though
I think thats only for international end of contract dealings or if a fee has been agreed where they have purchased the 'rights' to that player

The less news the better.

No rush. No need to assume anything.
