Players out of contract this summer
edited February 1 in Football
To the best of my knowledge, the following 'senior' players are all out of contract this summer:
- De Barr
I expect Pattenden and Mellor have got options for a further year (assuming their initial contract was only until the end of this season).
It probably would have been easier to list the ones I think are not out of contract...
Anyone any idea on Max? The club don't like to tell us this kind of information, of course. Competitive advantage and all that.
According to the Chairboys on the net, Max's contract expires June 2023.
We only have 5 players contracted beyond this season.
Lewis Wing and Brandon Halan plus sicknotes Chris Forino and Dom Gape.
The invisible Jack Young is contracted till 2025.
Ah, I must've missed Gape's extension
It might work...
wow this is concerning.....
surely Max is contracted beyond this season? We paid a fee for him, didn't we?
No fee up front, all based on performance/achievements - I guess we must owe something by now
I’m now imagining a scenario where the club release everyone, and we only find out who we’ve signed during the first day of the new season.
Who wouldn't you extend @ReturnToSenda if it was your choice?
But we're not allowed to know their names in case it gives an advantage to the opposition.
This is how it should be done. Every club reveals their new signings the morning of the first game.
Did anyone on here go to either of our triumphant London 5s escapades? Or are they 'made up' like Lionel Ritchie's phantom appearance at AP?
Who cares so long as Wikipedia has us down as the current holders.
Dickinson (I've not seen Blunkell so can't really comment), JJ, Freeman, Horgan, McCleary, Vokes (purely for financial reasons, and I don't think we'll have much choice anyway).
Mawson will depend on his fitness situation - but if he comes back soon and stays injury-free, I'd expect him to be off anyway. Thompson is so injury-prone but also such a good player, so I'm kind of torn there.
But what do I know?!
I went to both, helping to provide live coverage via the Wycombe Star website. This was essentially phoning through scores and brief updates that were posted to the site.
The following day, Star editor Alan Cleaver was ecstatic that 15 users had visited the livestream!
There were claims that it was the first ever such event in the history of sport on the web. Certainly from me if no-one else!
@arnos_grove Your place in history is secured!
Short term memory issues - the season a few back where we started with, was it, nine signed players on the grass pre season?
Didn’t we do rather well by the end of that season?
Was Rob around at the time? Given his limited experience of the pro EFL game might he not think that such things were of no particular significance?
Might also explain why he “expected” automatics this season😉
Can you comment on the crowd, was there segregation and how much of the crowd was taken up by Wycombe fans (as well as the other clubs)? On the audio from the recent Ringing the Blues podcast there does seem to be a good noise when the shootout was going on.
August 31st 11pm. Interview with Gareth and Pete….
We’re happy with the six players we have. And when Dom Gape is back available it will be like a new signing. Again.
We might look at the free agent market to boost the numbers a bit but they have got to be right and we won’t sign players for the sake of it.
There was no segregation, remember a Luton fan in glasses getting eggy about something but everyone was dotted about without issue.
Strong six-a-side team there.....
How do you post pictures on here again?
If it was me deciding the contracts, these are the decisions I'd make:
I'm releasing Dickinson as he's been here for 2 yrs and it's time that he finds his feet somewhere else now. Same reason for Wakely.
JJ is no longer the player he was 2 yrs ago and his weaknesses are becoming too big for the team to hide.
Freeman needs to find somewhere that will play him consistently
Horgan will be good to get his wages off the budget
McCleary, I think we are starting to see his ability and consistency decline. For 1 game he's amazing, for the next 6 games, he's very "meh"
Vokes I just feel he hasn't reached the heights that we thought he could do.
Agree with that, although I think we'd offer 2 years to Grimmer and McCarthy for sure - and possibly even Wheels.
I'm torn on GMac - he's still got those moments of quality and he's not been nearly as poor this season as some have made out, but he's lost consistency and I do think he might have retirement on his mind. On balance, probably not worth a new deal.
I can't believe what I'm reading
Surely someone's on a wind up?
Freeman is worth extending even as a squad option, he covers a variety of positions and is unlikely to be a high earner. Good luck finding cheap options with that quality.
There's some definite keeps and definite movers on that list but also a fair few grey areas who you'd possibly want to upgrade but might not be able to.
Can't believe people want to release Vokes, unless their concern is purely financial.
Christ above, we agree on something! I'm making a note in my calendar of this day! 😜
I don't want us to, but I don't think we'll have any choice
