I think Pierre would be a great shout personally, given that we can't take for granted Taf's or Mawson's fitness. I know Grimmer or McCarthy can do a job there, but it's preferable to have a specialist where we can.
As I've said, I've never seen Wakely play so I don't know how far off he is, but his very limited amount of senior football so far makes me think he may not be ready yet. Will be watching tomorrow's game though, so hopefully he starts there.
Back to Pierre though - he's still only 29, and to be honest I'm really surprised he's still a free agent.
I think most of us would be up for Pierre, assuming he's still in decent nick and assuming he'd handle being in competition with Forino to back up the two big boys.
Unless we start playing three at the back, I can't see any point in signing Pierre. This would potentially push Forino back to being 4th choice and consequently stunt his growth.
Yes, but are Pierre and Forino both happy to sit around waiting for Mawson and Taff to get injured. Also do we really have the funds within the wage budget to pay for four centre halves of such quality?
I really like the idea of getting in someone like Alfie May. He'll be a signing to make everyone sit up and take notice (like Vokes last year) and we know that he has quality in front of goal.
In reply to the 'he doesn't suit our system'. Our 'system' has already changed since the change of the season with Bayo no longer being a target man, this could be the player we need to make a new system click.
I also don't believe we NEED to have another Centre Back as we have 3 good ones already. We also have at least 4 other part-time options who can do a job for a few games at a time. I think we might need cover for our attacking midfielders tho. We have lost Kaikai, Halan & Wheeler, maybe its worth drafting another on just as a covering option?
Given that we've started the last three league games without a recognised striker in the team, you would hope they are still aiming to replace Bayo by deadline day.
With all due respect @ReturnToSenda I have given an honest opinion and its fine that you disagree with it but why are you shutting down / disrespecting a view with the 'not gunna happen' part? It comes across very confrontational and I don't understand why? You aren't the admin nor are you GA and maybe one of the ideas that has been mentioned might actually happen so until the window closes, no-one knows if anyone else will sign.
I thought that the loan window was open for slightly longer than permanent transfers but I think that changed around 5yrs ago.
However, I've just found this. If the Premier League & EFL agree and put this into the competition rules, there will be a number of clubs in a sticky situation like MK Dons who's teams was largely loan players last season or Chelsea that loan out 15-20 players a season
Not being confrontational or disrespectful at all lol. You have your opinion; I have mine; others have theirs. Is that not the point of a discussion forum? I don't think anything gets 'shut down' on here unless it's outright offensive.
A discussion is where people are allowed to discuss their views, for and against. When you say 'not gunna happen' that shuts down a discussion. You have said previously that you work in the media, show me a punlished discussion article that includes 'not gunna happen' in it.
You are very opinionated and thats fine but you sometimes give the impression that you speak or type for us all which isn't on. If others think / thought that what I said was rubbish, then the thumbs down and their own comments would tell me so.
"Not gonna happen" was my opinion on the likelihood of us signing Alfie May. If anyone's trying to shut things down, it's you telling me how I should voice my opinion. If you choose to interpret three words as me 'not allowing' you to give your view, that's your problem.
I'm only pointing out how it comes across over the web. You struggled with this on the Q&A/injury chat and have again not answered a question asked of you by choosing to ignore it.
Anyways, enjoy your evening, I'm tried of going around in circles.
Feel free to tell me to get lost given the discussion is between you and @ReturnToSenda , but I hear “not gonna happen” all the time and when I hear it, I just take it as something being used to emphasise a point, but hardly cancel culture at its most extreme.

OK, realistically I’ll go for Tom Elliott and would love to get Aaron Pierre in - left footed and can play left back or centre back
What would be the point in Alfie May? Cheltenham value him at 500k - crazy money, not to mention he doesn't naturally fit our system.
I think Pierre would be a great shout personally, given that we can't take for granted Taf's or Mawson's fitness. I know Grimmer or McCarthy can do a job there, but it's preferable to have a specialist where we can.

I’d rather sign two defenders than a forward to be honest.

Just seen a post on twitter Pierre might be going to Sutton
Well, it’s only “sources” claiming this (which could mean anything), but we’ll see.

You don't think having 4 specialist centre backs in a 50 game season, where the main choice double both have big injury doubts might be useful?!
Two centre-backs who are almost certainly available on loan this week.
Brandon Cooper, 22 - Swansea City
Dynel Simeu, 20 - Southampton
Yes, but are Pierre and Forino both happy to sit around waiting for Mawson and Taff to get injured. Also do we really have the funds within the wage budget to pay for four centre halves of such quality?
Just my thoughts, you don’t have to agree.
Sorry, was a genuine question!
Whether they're keen is a totally different question.
And Pierre's current wage is zero, one month into the season, so I wouldn't imagine wages will be that big an issue for him as time goes on.
Is Pierre a top-end League One player? A solid option, for sure, but we could potentially do better in the loan market.
Probably midtable, so will suit us 😉
Also, you're not really going to have 4 top league 1 class centre backs.
We have 2 who are certainly of championship quality though
Yeah, just thinking about what would make more financial sense. But then we don't seem to really do loans anymore, so...

Unless we switched to a front two, which would mean also switching to three at the back, we wouldn't get the best out of him. Not gonna happen.

I’m sure I could google it - but I assume the loan window closes at the same time as the transfer one?
Did it even stay open longer than the transfer window or am I miss remembering things again?
also, am I right in thinking that if players are released after the window closes we still could sign them (like we did with Mcleary)?
if so I’m not holding my on breath for anyone signings before the end of the window.
also, Ross Barkleys been released. This is what the process was made for, right?

Actually, someone did try their best to shut down the injury news discussion yesterday, so I take that back.
