Chinese whispers. People misconstrued: “he stormed out of AP.”
He didn’t. He stormed out of the training ground a day or two before the Shrews home game. Club having none of it apparently: “you’re under contract’.”
Of course all theoretical, but I trust my source. They got Mawson right too.
No, but we adapt. I think we're unlikely to find a like-for-like Vokes back-up. You can't have two 'starters' for every single role with such a restrictive squad size limit.
Do we really have to have a target man? That sounds very “old school” to me and conjures up dreadful memories of the days (all too recently) when the ball used to be repeatedly booted long to either Vokes or Bayo and towering central defenders won the ball far more often than not. More so with Vokes than with Bayo.
I’m not sure whether Ali Al-Hamadi is seen as a target man but he has the height, pace and physique. Amusing to see him shrugging off Lewis Wing in the (opposition) penalty area yesterday.
I think the front three yesterday demonstrated how effective clever ball players with their mesmerising interpassing can be just as effective as a (generally) lone target man.
My Charlton mate says the player he fears most is Garath McCleary. As he says, not a centre forward but always a goal threat.
It would be a shame if we never got to see Taffs and Mawson together. But...if he was really off to Luton, enough to keep him our of games, wouldn't he actually be off by now?
I have never previously criticised JJ, but am aware that a player who was never the quickest is aging and slowing. 'After all these years' is, unfortunately, part of the problem, time has no sentiment, and is not kind to any of us. As much as I like him as a player, as a servant to the club, and (from what I seen in interviews) as a person, I see no reason to give him more leeway than any other player. If his mistakes are becoming too frequent, and somebody else can do his primary job of defending better, and with less errors, then they should be picked ahead of him. That is the nature of the game. I did not say he is finished, just that this level may now be beyond him. It happens to all players at some point, and will continue to happen to players long after he has retired.
JJ will have plenty of a role to play this season.
It may not be the 45-50 starts a season type role he's had for most of his time here, but he'll still play an important role both on and off the pitch.
I expect he'll start all the cup games and be a guide for the younger players.

Yes
Also, all this talk of back-up for Vokes... His name is Brandon Hanlan.
I've heard the same. I still want to know what happened at the Shrewsbury game - did he really storm off or were people being dramatic?

Mod won’t let me comment. Cheers mate!
He’s not a target man though.
But we're in league one atm, and I'd say he's more than good enough for here. I do get your point about a loan though tbh
Whos also injured, any news on how bad his injury is ? And Vokes, or in classic club style does no one know

I'd absolutely have him back at this level, but I feel we'll want to try and keep turnover minimal even if we get promoted.
He’d fit my bill of a decent centre back that might have something to prove as a squad player who might be able make the step up.
whether he’d be content as a squad player is another matter.
I’d have him back. Pierre will forever be a Wycombe hero for head butting that twat fan.
I wish this could be shared far and wide... ie twitter and Facebook straight from the gasroom
Stormed off to Revs where Stewart apparently backed him up...despite now being in Scotland.
On a more serious level, I'm sure people said they saw him in the stand in the game. So if he stormed off it was only to the stand as opposed to home.

Vokes is more than a target man anyway, more mobile than people give him credit for
If Vokes isn’t back he might well be playing centre forward.
McCleary or Al-Hamadi ? Pretty sure you meant the former.

Not necessarily - Wesley Fofana hasn't signed for Chelsea yet but sat out Leicester's game yesterday

That would be a great move @Malone
Perhaps not the third round of the FA Cup but whose nose.
Pierre-Mawson combo like old times on occasion.
With Taf (hopefully still around!) and Forino.
Surely the best 4 centre backs as a combo we'd ever have had?
Brandon Hanlon is not a back up for Sam Vokes. He was here last season alongside Adebayo Akinfenwa.
We need a back up striker who can play a similar style and role as Vokes.
Another suggestion would be George Hirst on loan from Leicester City but sadly it seems he’s likely to join a Championship club.
I'll be surprised if we sign another striker. I sense Gaz is perfectly happy with what he's got.
Just because they are in the training squad doesn't mean they HAVE to be registered. I reckon there are more spaces than we reckon
Like we successfully did yesterday!
Taff surely gets enough money to replace him or we tell them to foxtrot oscar
