Ainsworth and Dobbo to Shrewsbury...

  • With Shrewsbury’s current league position they may be tempted to give you a call! Never too late.

  • Bit of a drive for them both you think they will have a house close by as part of the deal.

  • "Which manager applied for jobs at Malaga and Hearts before taking the Shrewsbury gig?" will be an interesting trivia question in the future!

Being allowed to live in Ian Hunter's old house sealed the deal. Probably.

  • That ship has not only sailed it has been sunk and fallen into a rusting ruin! Still playing though, walking football nowadays-not that I did much running all those years ago!

  • Not convinced he was even close to those jobs. Shrewsbury is a perfect fit for Ainsworth’s type of management. Underdogs against the world. Even his interview on Shrewsbury ‘s website said he will do everything to win games. Bring on the shithousery .!!! That’s Ainsworth’s style.

  • Wish them both the best of luck, staying up "just" and a bit of a rebuild seems to be the model for them, hope Shrewsbury are more responsive than QPR, players should look up to them a bit more there.

  • Morris dancing is big in Shrewsbury. Which is similar to a Haka (if everybody gets drunk first)

  • It seems inevitable GA will manage the New Zealand national team at some point, though ironically the All Whites do not do the haka owing to the time constraints around the start of football matches (I think).

  • I can’t comment about the Hearts job but I know for a fact he was interviewed by Malaga as they were not going to renew the current managers contract at the end of last season. The job was all but his until!! The Malaga manager then went on a superb run mid/end of season getting them promoted via the playoffs and earning a new contract.

  • Good luck to them both & the Shrews, glad to see him back in the game.

  • So pleased to see Gareth and Dobbo back in the game. Wonderful guys who did so much for our club. Good luck to them and the Shrews except when they play us of course.

I am looking forward to a chorus, from us, of ...

"We know what YOU are, we know what YOU are. Time wasting bastard's, we know what YOU are"

All in good humour of course.

  • Gareth’s first interview has the fans pretty excited. They are getting two of the greatest people in football.

Good luck to them and The Shrews. I would be excited if I was them...perfect combination of team and management I reckon.

  • Best of luck to Ainsworth and Dobson, outside of our two fixtures.

Two of the genuine good guys in football.

Can see them come knocking for someone like McCarthy pretty soon.

  • Wonder if he might have a look at Anthony Stewart who is turning out for Ebbsfleet in the conference as well.

Pierre, Stewart and McCarthy would be a good start at getting the old band back together.

  • Those three in defence would have them off the bottom in no time.

Heck of a first game for him, Birmingham H on Sky 12.30 next Sat.

Anything he can do for us will be much appreciated!

5 of the next 7 at home though, so plenty of chance to get that fortress he mentions on the first interview video going sharpish.

  • And if they need a keeper we've probably got a spare one to loan them.

  • If Marquis can get anywhere near the form he showed between about 2017 and 2022 they've got a really potent front man too.

The fact that GA was with us a decade and had such a long arc from almost going out of the league to going to the Champo almost makes it seem like he needs that long in some fans eyes (especially opposition fans). I don't think that is the case at all - he will have learned so much from his previous gigs that I think it is a case of how long it takes to get a few Ainsworth-type players in. I still expect them to get relegated just because of the strength of L1 and them starting from a point of being almost adrift, but they will give a good account of themselves, and if the owner buys in to rebuilding the club, they will be back very soon, and stronger.

Give him this season and next, and Shrewsbury will have a new culture.

  • I'm quite excited to see what he can do there. In his last year with us, he had us playing some very entertaining (but still very effective) football.

  • Effective yes but very entertaining, not so certain.

  • Not certain those 3 in your back line would guarantee you staying in a very competitive League 1. Their best days are behind them.

  • Decent time to go in. 6-7 weeks to assess the squad, then a month to recruit.

  • We scored more goals from outside the box than anyone else of the 92 those last two seasons (I believe) and had the likes of Mehmeti and Wing. Nothing beats the current Bloomsball, and not every game was thrilling, but there were some decently entertaining games.

  • Blooms is catching GA for the "total game involvements" leaderboard (not counting being in the coaching setup below manager):

    Ainsworth: 550 managed, 118 played = 668

    Bloomfield: 94 managed, 557 played = 651

This stat brought to you courtesy of "too much time on my hands."

  • If Mike Tyson can rediscover the form he showed around 1986 he will be unstoppable against Jake Paul on Friday ;)

  • Just watched the interview on the Shrews site, he did well. If I was a Shrewsbury fan I'd be rather excited. Surprised we haven't had any of them pop on here for a chat about it, fairly sure we've had at least one visit in the past.
