If only the BFP hack had a French language autocorrect on the phone they type their copy up on, it could have come out as "Salope". Which erm, means, something...
When Ainsworth went to QPR in February from us , he got a three and a half year contract. So 18 months is pretty short. Not showing the greatest confidence in the manager.
If you are trying to tempt a manager away from an existing job though you are bound to offer a better deal (longer contract for example) than if you are appointing someone who doesn’t have a current job (at least not the type of job they presumably want).
That’s a great interview with Gaz on the Shrewsbury website. Lovely to hear him talking football, motivation and winning again…he was such a great manager for us.
I am super pleased Gaz and dobbo are back at a club (although tinged with disappointment as I wanted dobbo back here some how) and I really want them to prove that what they did here was no fluke and go on to have as much success there as they did here.
I also want us to stuff Shrewsbury the next time we play to show how Matt has taken what they started and run with it into the next level.
He told me personally at JJ's testimonial night that he'd turned down 4 offers. That wasn't for the benefit of Shrewsbury fans cos he was only talking to me
I disagree, He was very well up with the latest qualifications and techniques, mostly around psychology, the numbers can help you select good players but they can't make them gel .
I can't help but think of the Shrews fan I know who moaned incessantly about the Ainsworth handball goal way back, which helped us get promoted over them. He HATED Gaz after that. Time heals all, but it made me laugh
Having stayed in Shrewsbury for a few days earlier this year, I think it is a much better place to live than Marlow and it has a Cathedral rather than a plain old church. Charles Darwin was born there.
I always wonder if those spectators who abuse players from a safe distance during a game would be stupid enough to do so if they saw them on the street. The Pierre incident was a rare case of someone who did and paid the price.
I don't remember it actually being a poor result, it might have been, the "victim" later admitted shouting at Pierre that he'd had a bad game (sure no expletives were involved) when he hadn't actually played badly. Fun thing to do after a few pints apparently.
Generally considered to have been one of our better referees. A human being off the field who appears to have made some poor life choices which appear to have cost him his livelihood. All a bit sad.
What Dev said really. He's obviously got some terrible "mates" as well.
Everyone makes bad decisions in life, and we all have to face up to the consequences of those. Hope he's got some good people around him now. I'd imagine he's in a pretty bleak place.
Also dismayed by the prospect of the sort of moron that espouses conspiracy theories now feels emboldened and justified by this, and as ever the effect this has on officials way down the pyramid

I enjoyed the BFP article about the appointment which refers to Shrewsbury as "the Salops" 😅
I'd have thought that would be a very normal length contract for a new manager starting half way through a season.
The turned down offers could have included a Summer Season fronting an AOR band?
We’ll never know. Good luck to them but seeing the duo in the away ‘dugout’ will be one of the stranger AP experiences.
Although, of course, since MB switched the dug outs round they will be sat exactly where they are used to sitting.
Must be a chance that they will head into the Home dressing room by mistake!

It's clear that that Ainsworth was lying about other offers and the new club obviously have no confidence in him. I hope he does well though... 🙂

i’m so fickle.

Love Dobbo however not sure there would have been room for his qualitative soft values in Dan’s brave new quantitative data driven world ?
I think you're qualitatively right.

I know Jason McCarthy loves Marlow and the church there, but I wonder if he'll move out west in Jan

A Shrews fan I know was delighted at the appointment when I chatted to him this week and strangely did not bring that up!
Did GA ever fall out with Aaron Pierre?
'I told you when you came here, son...I only have two cast iron rules.
Never get cash out from the Tesco Express and never put the nut on a man with a sachet of ketchup who shouts at you in the street...'
I always wonder if that "fan" learnt a lesson most of us didn't need to learn.
Don't taunt a massively powerful athlete from yards away 20mins after a poor defeat when he's still raging.
Could be a Ron Atkinson at Nottingham Forest situation

Remember proudly singing "There's only one Pierre" at Barnet the week after , a few boos but most people understand what happened.
Safer to pick on refs I guess? 😉
As a staunch defender of the men in black what do you have to say about Mr Coote’s (alleged) misdemeanours?
And wasn't the poor result against Shrewsbury? Or am I just dreaming that?
