I'm with you - for all the spectacular moments, he was incredibly unpredictable for his teammates. Plus surely we want someone more in the target man mould as direct back-up to Vokes?
The clue with the Castledine signing was when even Sanchez said something to the effect of "don't expect him to play much as he's only played about 20 games in 6 years".
Agreed Uche was big and strong, but not particularly good in the air, and not a traditional target man in any sense. Very difficult to incorperate in a tactical plan, other than get it up to Uche, see if he can spin his man, and see where we go from there.
I would much rather see a goalscorer with guile and nous similar to Simon Garner, Sean Devine to partner Super Sam and give us a bit of variety to challenge Hanlan.
To be fair to Tyson...yes he was all out explosive pace in his first spell and scored a lot. In his 2nd spell he was a lot older and had lost some pace but he was a better all round player IMHO than the first spell and still had something to offer the team.
When you have a star player like a Tyson, Guppy or Betsy on the way up, it's inevitable by the time they're a vet later on they won't have the same star qualities. Was still great getting all of those 3 back.
I think the Uche fee could have reached £1M had Middlesbrough got promoted. Not sure what the initial fee was
I'd have him back in a heartbeat. He'd be absolutely unstoppable at league 1 level, and become a genuine all time terrace idol. Can't see it though, I doubt we could afford him
Uche and Vokes as a rotating front man or in a two...I would pay to see that if I had not already paid to see whoever Gareth puts out next term. Agree he is a) probably too expensive and b) might not want to come back. Having said that GA gave him the perfect window to get a lucrative move first time round. Having said that...goalkeeper or new striker, we have to trust that Dobbo and Gareth will turn up some unpolished gems.
If we do need a new goalkeeper then we should simply go for the very best loanee we can get through the door. It's such an easy shortcut to more points at the end of the season
You've got to get the right style of GK for your setup obvs, but they are out there and you can get hold of some proper quality like Pompey did with Bazunu
I know we only had one one loanee last season and they ended up signing permanently weeks later anyway, but I don't think we've moved away from loans as any kind of policy - why would we?
This is just speculation, but after the loanees from the championship season didn’t sign permanently I feel like there may have been an instruction that in the future we develop our own prospects rather than those from other clubs.

Not sure about the 1m fee, though! Half that at best, wasn't it?
Wasn't it labelled as "Undisclosed" so we'll never actually know the real value of the transfer and/or the clauses involved in that deal
I'm sure Warnock dismissed suggestions that it was even 500k

Looked good in the Leicester celebrations though!
Young Castledine, lean, sharp, nippy, goal scoring mid.
Later Castledine, much heavier, but all disco muscles, not very nippy or sharp, could only handle about 5 games a year
But erm, I think the "syndrome" part is, don't go back after a good first spell, as you'll never match the hype.
Also seen with Betsy, Guppy, Tyson and countless others. Perhaps even McCarthy now? Although I'm getting lost as to which spell he's on now.
And we have disproved the rule with quite a few returnees.
I fear Mawson would have impossible expectations to live up to if he did come back, though that's all gone quiet.

Oh it's no downer on the players.

The transfer window's been open almost 12 hours and we haven't signed anyone. What is going on?
It was nuts up at the filling station, everyone standing around waiting to see who pulled in to fill up on petrol at £2.10!
Oh sorry that was a dream I had last night. 😂😂😂

I could swear it was reported at the time as £750k, but then that could have been by some rando on here.
I'll go back through the historic articles on the club's website. It's bound to be on there

Not sure we’ll be doing inward loanees next season @eric_plant . Apologies if your tongue is firmly in your cheek.
I was being 100% serious
Getting a loan keeper in to replace Stockdale in the event of his departure would be an absolute no brainer.

That was certainly my understanding.

A little unorthodox but would be a good backup GK
Yes, @ReturnToSenda Portsmouth’s goalie was ridiculously good, now you come to mention it...
Looks like he's about to sign for Southampton, could well be their no1
Oof Pompey fans are going to hate that
He was only on loan there, but probably
I think you're probably right, but goalkeepers should fall outside this policy.
Diving Danny Hylton released by Luton.
