  • Definitely sane again. (Whoops, Freudian!). I’d say cramp for Horgan. Not surprising, given lack of recent game time. (Cramp, not heard of him.). Mehmeti still wearing left knee support. Possibly a slight but ongoing niggle (which could explain tendency to fade in second half of games.)

Nick Freeman not quite at best. Shock horror. Hadn’t heard of Ironside!

  • Excellent last night, second half was a bit frustrating but did the job and got a good breakaway goal to settle the nerves.

In the first half we threatened to take a short goal kick to Taff who was inside the area. Am I right in think we have still never taken advantage (if it actually is an advantage!) of the rule change which allows this??

  • Great response, played in a way that suited the players picked. Credit to Gareth, let's just get behind him now, he deserves it.

Also wouldn't knock the atmosphere too much, fair play to people for getting down there, bilious on pancakes on a wet night.

  • We at last kept the ball on the ground and long may it continue, enough of the booting it up in the air,we have shown that we have the skills to play the ball on the ground.

So maybe the Ainsworth project isn't utterly finished just yet then?

Although we always win when fireworks are knocking about.

And those were pretty decent, you'd have to be fairly miserable, (or be sat in the Main stand) to not enjoy them

Warmed me up a treat. Couldn't really see anything except flames and smoke though.

Did chuckle at that massive cloud of smoke that wafted into the terrace.
All those usual safety talks about those miniscule smoke bombs being dangerous and then they purposely unleash a huge smoke cloud into the stand :)

  • First time I think I've seen a player booked for time wasting as punishment for a team's collective time wasting?

Stockdale had really been wasting time, fairly unnecessarily and Obita then was booked for a delayed throw in.
But the ref started pointing at the goal Stockdale was in suggesting it was for previous team time wasting.

  • I think the massive turning point in the game was Vokes' clearance off the line. If that had gone in, 2-1, it could have been a very different game as with the confidence starting low before the match, one or two heads could have dropped.

It was interesting to see McCarthy being named Capt above Vokes? Is he a Captain for the future?

And thoroughly deserved it was as well

  • Didn't realise just quite how good our second goal was last night. Wow.

It happens for fouls too, once the refs warned a few players you'd be fairly stupid to do it again obviously soon after. Not going to have a go at them totally as it helps but there's a place and time.

    It was magnificent

  • Just watched that 10 minute highlights package - so much quality football on show.

Sam Vokes' goal line clearance is spectacular.

Did the ref remember to give a yellow for that clattering of McCleary prior to the third goal?

  • One negative..... there's zero atmosphere, we need a drummer.

  • No I don't think he did, which was an obvious oversight

Pretty inept from the Cambridge player mind. It's not difficult to hack someone down, well though Garath did to stay on his feet

I thought it was remarkable. So many players would instinctively have gone down in that situation. He must have stumbled for about ten yards. And I seem to recall a very similar breakaway situation recently when McCleary squared the ball for someone to run on to it and score. “Near fatal stumble” was a bit over the top from me yesterday!

  • In my eyes every player rated 8+ last night.... same line up Saturday please ?.

  • Interesting that a lot of people feel it was Horgan's best game for a long time or even ever in a Wycombe shirt. Not sure why. Maybe having players around with that he clicked with, maybe a slight change in his position (he seemed all over the midfield), whatever it seemed to work.
The tactic of playing 3 Josh Scowens was genius though. There was no way there was only one out there, the amount of ground he covered was too much for a single player.

  • I think we are very fortunate to have Josh Scowen in our squad. I was a big fan of his in his first spell with us and he has since become a much better player, one I’m proud to sponsor. He is skilful, brave, determined and a joy to watch. Shows how foolish some Sunderland fans were to rubbish him despite his various managers selecting him for almost every game.

  • He was outstanding last night. When we've got Thompson back alongside him we are a match for any team in this league

  • I agree @eric_plant but Wing is also coming along nicely so at least we have competition in that area, with Gape (when fit), also in with a shout.

  • Wins in next two games could set us up for a very interesting run in.

    Fleetwood home
    Portsmouth away
    Doncaster home
    Cambridge away
    Gillingham home

I think these are the critical five games. 11 points or more here would be great. The final four games are tricky... At least 2 of the sides will have points to play for, probably 3 if you think Wimbledon will need points to stay up still....

I don’t think McCarthy is a regular enough starter to be club captain.

For next season I’d like one of Vokes, Stewart or Scowen to have it.

  • Vokesy gets my vote

  • Scowen gets my vote. Definitely not Stewart as he is too quiet and laid back.

Anthony Stewart was born to be Wycombe captain. He led a very successful youth team with distinction. He's a leader

That said, it's got to be Vokes if he's still around

  • If it means keeping Vokes for another season, never mind the captaincy I’d give him the freedom of High Wycombe! Quality player, good guy.

There's a reason Ainsworth avoids giving him captaincy. Maybe he himself doesn't want it.

Have to say I love him. Understated with his football. Let's his football do the talking. Deserves every bit of credit he gets.

But I agree, Vokes has to be captain next season. McCleary vice.
