Hands up if you also only just learnt that Wigan's nickname, Latics, is a short form of Athletic. I probably should've made the connection, seeing as Oldham also use it ?♂️

Back to the badge. The need for the inclusion of two footballs clearly a nod to the traditional strength of Rugby League in the area.
Or to cover the screws into the wall? ps: it’s a slow news day chez moi
ps - I don't get how Latics is short for athletic. Yes they share many of the same letters, but this would never be allowed to stand in an FT crossword.
I've been thinking about the 'latics' revelation earlier in this thread. It's news to me too, but how are they pronouncing 'athletic?' Surely they don't say 'athLATIC,' do they?

It's English; it isn't supposed to make sense.
Makes as much sense as having a tree grow out of a crown i suppose.

I honestly thought a latic was a type of small bird.
I'm sure all the svelte athletes that frequent the gasroom would instantly think latic is quite like lactic, as in acid, from all their high intensity sprints....to the tea bar.
Interesting that Charlton don't use it and instead adopted Addicks, apparently after the local fishmonger who used to reward the team with haddock and chips.

Shouldn't the tree be wearing the crown?
Surely there badge should incorporate a big pair of flares and roulette wheel from a casino.
Perhaps an Ovation from The Chosen Few ?
I keep typo-ing Wigan as Wogan

I've completely lost track of the rules about what is available on iFollow. Is this one?

Yep! All midweek away games apart from ones rearranged from Saturdays afaik.
Ace, thanks @ReturnToSenda
Equatorial Guinea, the Lebanon, Haiti, Belize and now Wigan. I do like a good tree and not just for the purposes of making chairs.

Add Belize to that list!
It is a very nice flag, but nice enough to be counted twice?
Apparently so
I thought it was some kind of acid build up in muscles or a bizarre cure for blocked bowels!
Wigan have gone cash free and the replies on the tweet announcement could have been cut and pasted from ours!
Shouldn't they be used to advancements in technology? What with Wallace and Gromit coming from there.

I think it would be rude to ignore Belize

That tree is locally known as a wiggin tree, although I think in most places they would call it a rowan.
Or Bradley
I think Nottingham Forest (of the cartoon tree) are probably jealous of that depiction.

I thought latic was what kept my pyjama trousers up. I can imagine that athletic would sound more like athlatic if Pete Couhig said it.

Is there a game tonight, btw?
