I think (never a good way to start...) the loss of Uche, Knight and Fred represents the nadir of the summer transfer window.
The club is getting all the bad news over and done with.
Reading the tea leaves, I think there is only upside from here.
Will the moderators please feel free to delete this daft posting.
P.S. It doesn't seem that long ago we (i.e. fellow gas roomers) spent the summer agonising as to whether we would sign Chris Greenacre from the mighty Mansfield.
We didn't.
Never mind that. Remember a few years before that, spending seemingly the whole summer wondering if we were signing Steve Anthrobus!!
87/88 was particularly disappointing, Thought we were getting Steve Claridge,Tony Agana and Mick Doherty. Ended up with the decrepid duo of Nigel Gray and Alan Mayes.

The most disappointing summer I remember in my times was the year (97?) where Bell left.
We were putting a tasty side together, and he was the real jewel in how we played.
To lose him just before the start of the season for a derisory fee of 150k, when City then sold their own left back for 750k, just really killed any optimism.
Uche going just felt like a, yeah, bigger club, we've gone down, makes sense moment to me. Maybe that's the difference of 24 years of age since 97!

Didn’t Mickey Bell also say he’s never leave for a club in the same division?
I was there on his last home game, v Bristol City funnily enough, and a guy I knew was light heartedly badgering him "you're off aren't you", and he just did a grin.
He had 8 seasons at Bristol City and just ONE in the second tier getting battered by all comers.

If memory serves correct we turned down the oppotunity to sign Agana and Andy Townsend as 'no better than we already had'.
Yesterday it seemed certain he was signing a new and improved offer at Sunderland. I don’t think he’s been in any of their pre season training session photos though so who knows.
That was not correct, it was a dispute about paying the VAT for Mick Doherty,Agana went to Watford after a late bid.
We were never in for Andy Townsend, he had left Weymouth 2 years earlier for Southampton.

ITV have, several times in this tournament, accidentally revealed that they're commentating off screens - my favourite instance being Tyldesley excitedly shouting "he's in again!" at a replay.
Emma Hayes I quite like. Though I do spend a lot of time trying and failing to place her accent.
She is from Camden, lived on the estate by Pratt Street name of which escapes me.

You’re very naughty @Wendoverman. The pity is that some don’t appreciate your finely honed irony and some probably don’t even recognise that it is.
Yes @Lloyd2084 . it’s only against a Holmer Green level side so don’t read too much into game but only played first half but hit bar and post as well as his tap in and missed a couple of headers. He did well.
Worth noting just how important games like this can be for very small clubs. Tonight’s gate money will probably be around 20per cent of the entire seasons gate income.
Warnock invariably brings his teams down to Cornwall pre season and plays a low level friendly or two while here. He has a house just into Cornwall and I believe intends to live here if he ever retires.

Uches reported fee on Transfermarkt to Middlesbrough was £738k
Gracious as ever @davecz. Finely honed is subtly different (too subtly perhaps) to finely tuned.
@Malone - definitely just the ‘son’ bit !
Almost certainly guessed based on what we already know.
Then why not guess 750k as that is the figure being banded around?
Then why would you need to visit their website...
Transfermarkt is very hit and miss - probably more miss.
Saw Uche score a goal live tonight. Does that make me unique amongst Chairboy supporters?
Afraid not, I was in the media area for three of his goals at Adams Park.
Did he ever score against Wycombe when playing for Cambridge?
Unique amongst non-elite Chairboy supporters?
My son’s friend was a ball boy at AP last season and saw him score a few crackers.
How did Boro play him @DevC ? Up on his own?
@Shev He won a penalty in the game at the Abbey a few seasons back - "Eze's match". But didn't take it, as I recall.

How did Middlesbrough end up going all the way down to Devon for a friendly? Is there some kind of link between the clubs?
Not sure fans needed to be reminded of your ‘ privileged ‘ position .
They're there for a training camp, playing a few games against local sides. Warnock always takes his teams there in pre-season
@jc2000 Ah right, thanks
