@Mandown Horgan scored zero league goals last season. I think Stockdale got more assists. He is not the attacking force we hoped.

I know Horgan was a big disappointment last year but I think he has the ability to run at the defence centrally and cause huge problems.

Had he taken that early chance last season things could have turned out differently for him. Confidence is a wonderful thing

Not giving up on Scotty and Alex too

You’re very naughty @Wendoverman. The pity is that some don’t appreciate your finely honed irony and some probably don’t even recognise that it is.

Keep it up, son (as my mate @Malone might say).

If that’s @Wendoverman best attempt at ‘ finely tuned irony’ , there’s a long way to go.

  • I think (never a good way to start...) the loss of Uche, Knight and Fred represents the nadir of the summer transfer window.

The club is getting all the bad news over and done with.

Reading the tea leaves, I think there is only upside from here.

Will the moderators please feel free to delete this daft posting.

P.S. It doesn't seem that long ago we (i.e. fellow gas roomers) spent the summer agonising as to whether we would sign Chris Greenacre from the mighty Mansfield.

    We didn't.

  • We will be fine. Think of GA as both a gold prospector and a goldsmith. Every season we get clumps of earth with bits of gold shining through, and he gets the gold out, refines it, and fashions it into something amazing, before he has to sell it on.

As long as we have the gold prospector and the goldsmith, we will find the gold.

  • Chris Greenacre, Jamie Forrester, Lee Hodges (the good one), Brett Ormerod.....we were linked with all of them the summer after the cup run

In the end none came and we got new carpets for the Vere Suite and boardroom instead

Emma Hayes co commentator on ITV dear oh lore give me strength…..

Everyone can down thumb me as well if they like, as I couldn't stand here either !! Though she is better than McManaman and Savage, I'll give her that

  • What don't people like about her, out of interest?

  • By and large the ex-pros just criticise their way through each game.

It’s like they expect every attack to lead to a goal and if it doesn’t, someone’s let themselves down, has poor technique or has made the wrong decisions.

Maybe it’s because 95% of my football watching has been outside the top flight, but I’ll often be enjoying an absorbing game whilst the commentators are moaning away about tedious non-issues.

It’s especially galling given some of the careers and skills of these characters. It’s like we gave up on specialist commentators when Motty and Barry Davies retired.

I'm sure we can all agree that ITV replacing Tyldesley with Matterface as their lead commentator was a terrible move? We do need some more young(er) voices, but they've got to be competent!

  • there's ALWAYS a long way to go @davecz that's what makes life fun...

    It's a mystery to me

  • ITV have, several times in this tournament, accidentally revealed that they're commentating off screens - my favourite instance being Tyldesley excitedly shouting "he's in again!" at a replay.

Emma Hayes I quite like. Though I do spend a lot of time trying and failing to place her accent.

I'm with @Lloyd2084 on the vast majority of ex-pros. I'd rather not have anyone than have listen to Carragher's incessant, moronic xenophobia, or Jermaine Jenas just saying words that almost describe what has just happened. The broadcasters should mix it up a bit with the co-comms like Phil does. I'd like to hear more from more back-room people - coaches, tacticians, managers etc. At least they're going to be able to point out things that I haven't already thought myself. I always enjoyed Keith Scott on co-comms with Phil because, while I didn't always agree with his assessments, he was analysing things from a manager's perspective and it was always interesting. Along with his pronunciations.

  • @drcongo In fairness Tyldesley revealed that in a tweet. I assumed they probably would be apart from the Wembley and Hampden games.

  • It really does show how lucky we are to have @bluntphil doesn’t it @drcongo.

  • And without casting aspersions on @bluntphil’s footballing abilities, it shows that you can be a knowledgable and interesting commentator without having trousered a load of Premier League caps.

  • As Arrigo Sacchi said, we don't expect a jockey to have been born a horse...

  • To be honest, I enjoy @bluntphil on ifollow but (cover your eyes @glasshalffull ) on the whole I could do without co-comms and barely register who the commentators are unless there is a serious Partridgism.

  • I find Emma Hayes vocal tone/pitch and accent a little grating at times but her expert analysis, knowledge and insight is superb.

I dont mind Savage on the whole and think that Alex Scott is getting better as time goes on (again very knowledgeable & often pretty insightful).

Matterface is utterly awful give me JP or AP or @bluntphil any day of the week

  • I don't know if he knows it, but Matterface is currently in a Partridge-off with Richard Madeley - and is taking an absolute battering.

  • It would take a gargantuan effort to out Partridge Madeley...and the best thing about it is you're never quite sure if he's a savvy media operator who knows he's doing it and playing to the gallery or just a genuine fool who says the first thing that comes into his head.

  • I think he knew full well what he was doing here

  • Hey! Is this the Ikpeazu thread or the General Euros thread? ?

I think it's turned into "lets forget he's gone" thread

  • So having forgotten Uche already and concentrating on a promotion push from League 1. Who do we need to spend our £Ms on?

If none came, why the need for new carpets?

The usual, players that half of us haven't heard of and the half that do don't see what they bring.
