Are we expecting any further signings before tomorrow’s game (not Messi)?

Probably not until the PL squads are settled.

I wonder if when Max Ram does those “what’s your pornstar name” things he comes out as John Smith.

The good doctor wins the internet again.

  • I reckon we might just get a couple of loans in now, so probably won't happen until the big boys have sorted their squads out.

Andre Burley rumoured to be on trial with Swindon. Seems like he probably won't be getting a new deal, then.

Just looked at the new headshots for the players on the club websites and notice Burley does have a headshot. Maybe he is staying at the club?

Yeah, I'm fairly sure I saw him in town (not out on the piss) last night as well.

  • Reports in press and online suggest we are in interested in Birmingham forward Sam Cosgrove.

Am I alone in wondering how we would fit anyone else in?
Vokes will start most games, with Bayo deputising for small times elsewhere.
Samuel a different option of target man at times.

Then we'll either do the Horgan/McCleary approach seen yesterday or go with Kashket in there as a 2.
Mehmeti and and Freeman further options.

Could also play 3 scufflers in the centre as well, while keeping the wingbacks, plus Wheeler is in there too.

So another forward would really complicate things unless we've given up on Kashket, Samuel and Freeman.

  • I can't see Kashket and Samuel getting a load of games. I still think we'll get a couple of loans in as well. Like you say, we suddenly have a load of players !

  • After Sam Cosgrove and Sam Lavelle according to the sun

  • Having quality in the starting 11 is great. And the bench was good yesterday too. But injuries and form will come and go over the season so having more quality will certainly not harm. It’s just a fact of football that a better one in causes a lesser one to go out. So much as we love player x if player y is better the transfer shuffle happens.

  • We can always send some out on loan as well. I'd be slightly surprised if we don't.

  • There are 46 games and players will get injured, tired or lose form. If we can strengthen the squad I'm sure we'll be looking to do so

  • Sam Lavelle would be a good signing. A real good defender with great potential. I would expect that to be pretty big money signing for Morecambe to let him go to us though.
Cosgrove would be a loan from Birmingham. He seems to have struggled since going to them from Scottish football. Maybe one in which Gareth and Dobbo have spotted potential and want to bolster that target man position.

  • Both would be excellent signings - we certainly do need more depth at centre-back - and they seem within reach on the face of it.

We could also do with another left-footed attacking player who's also capable of playing wing-back. Horgan could play LWB if need be and McCarthy would suit that role better than LB, but Kashket is literally our only attacking left-footer as things stand.

  • A few clubs appear to be chasing lavelle.

  • The really big gap in the squad as it stands is the lack of cover at left and right wing back - particularly with the loss of Fred who could play on either side.

The wing back positions are so critical to the way that we now play that an injury to either McCarthy or Obita would be a real problem. The latter can be a bit injury prone too.

Also it’s a physically exhausting position (as we saw with Jason yesterday) what with having to get up and down the flank. Expecting them each to play 50 games this season isn’t realistic.

We’ve a few that could fill in - Freeman, Horgan, Grimmer, Kashket, Wheeler - but no specialists.

  • Wheeler has spent a lot of his career as a wide midfielder, I'm pretty sure he would do a good job there. And he is incredibly fit.

  • Wheeler could do a great job anywhere on the pitch.

Probably off it too. Can we get him serving in the bar before the game against Lincoln?

  • I wonder if we may see Gareth experiment in this area on Tuesday night to see if he can find himself an option that might just save him having to sign anyone.

We start the season with four games in 11 days and we may just want to give one or both of McCarthy and Obita a breather to ensure we’re at our best for the Cheltenham and Wigan away games.

Possibly Freeman, given it’s who he turned to yesterday (and given he could play on either side). Or maybe Scott Kashket who looked quite useful at left wing back against Leicester - if he’s fit.

  • Agreed, Kashket and Freeman could both play wingback. And Wheeler is incredibly fit and can play anywhere. I think our players look really fit this season. It was noticeable against Leicester how sharp we were.

  • I'm not sure i want to see Kashhet in his own half doing defensive stuff.
It already reduces his threat having him outside, let alone if that'd even further back.

Maybe one of these more lop sided wing back set ups, where one side stays higher up.
He would have JJ behind to mop up.

  • Sam lavelle has come on twitter as rumoured Wycombe are interested..centre half with morecambe

  • There was a bit of joshing in the interview with the delightful Jack Grimmer (Our House podcast) about the covering he has to do for the strongly attack-minded McCarthy. That podcast was excellent, if a little lengthy at 45 minutes.

  • A trick I have learned from having to do the annual round of training videos on IT security, legal compliance and other basic nonsense is putting the speed up to 1.5x. For the Gaz interview, I slowed it back down to 1.25x.

  • I read somewhere that we bid 180k for Lavelle last week, not sure how accurate this is

  • Possibly, but he's out of contract at the end of the season and it sounds like Morecambe would rather just cash in now.

  • So we're a buying club now?...

  • Imagine that Morecambe fans will be pretty pissed off at losing their promotion winning captain to a club in the same league! Certainly makes a change for us to be on the buying side of those exchanges though

  • Seems its more than just a standard rumour.
