Match Day Thread: Crawley

  • What I can't get my head around is why the WW hierarchy would want to edge out the manager when we were in such an amazing position in the top two of League One? It defies all footballing logic but football these days can be completely illogical. All very strange.

  • There seems to be some people who really don’t like DR , I am reserving comment because I don’t know enough about the situation.

I do know that Mike wasn’t involved and he is still so early in his tenure and I don’t want to be a churl until there’s something to churl about .m

Anyhoo I’m down for Tuesday (parking booked ) hope today oops yesterday was settling in and we will get back to winning ways.

    vanilla comment I know

  • I have no feeling either way on Dan Rice. This is about a true Wycombe legend and the way he has been treated (and is continuing to be treated by some).

  • Well done @WestLondonWanderer. At last someone has achieved something which was beginning to look beyond the wit of the Gasroom - namely the relatively simple task of correctly spelling the surname of Xavier Levi Simons. Someone even managed to stretch it to Simmonds!

I agree with those who think Xavier may be the missing link to fill the gap resulting from Aaron Morley’s departure. We’ll need to sign him permanently if that proves to be true. He certainly looked the part during his five minute cameo yesterday.

    Now back to bed.

  • Simonson has got a hard task to match up to Morley, although there were positive signs yesterday in his brief appearance.

  • Really think it’s now the time to move on from the Bloomfield debate. Clearly there are differing views on the forum about whether he was pushed or did he go because he was ambitious and wanted higher grade football. He will always be a legend but he’s gone and he’s not coming back.

I know we don't talk injuries, but some clarity around Kone's injury would be ideal. Someone on here said he would be back for the Birmingham game, but that still means missing two huge home games. He's so crucial to our all round play, even ignoring his goal tally, that I worry that we'll end up playing catch up on Wrexham and Stockport once he's back.

Udoh had a great game yesterday, but he's just not Kone.

  • The new Danish sensation Simonsson certainly looks the part. Hopefully he starts on Tuesday and provides the creative spark to unlock Bristol Rovers.

  • 48 points to play for and I think we'll need at least 30 to stand any chance of top 2.

  • Got to trust in Dodds and team. And hope we’re going to go back on the upturn. As disappointing as yesterday was, a point is a point, and we trust that our new signings will start to get game time.

Hopefully Kone will be back for Birmingham. Sads and Jasper to return. Lowry looked exciting. Simons will hopefully be a starter for Bristol and who knows what we have with Berry.

And destiny is still in our hands, we’re still in the automatics by right.

  • I needed to sleep on that one.

A very frustrating game, Crawley played with a lot of energy and closed us down and we failed to work the ball around the pitch in response, so we never really drained them enough to change that script.

The ref and linesmen were pretty poor, seemed intent on slowing the game down as much as possible. Eyes of a hawk / bat-like vision depending on the part of the spectrum hitting the retina.

I too am disappointed that the fresh blood seems slow to come into the match day squad, particularly those who have already debuted well. I suppose losing a manager, a key figure in midfield and the leading striker in the division is going to have a large impact.

I understand the nerves about Skura but I thought he had a decent enough game yesterday. If you are going to bring young players through and put them in a makeshift position, you need to have patience and understanding and moreover be fair about your criticisms. It’s no more his fault that he isn’t a right back than it is Leahy’s or Taylor’s or Bradley’s. He is the next best fit and he has the balls to step into that role as a young lad, I think that shows a lot about him. It is the manager and the senior players who should be adapting the system if a lack of available players in a key position is costing us games and yet Skura seems to be taking the brunt of the discontent about the downturn in the output at the top of the pitch from the right back position.

I think that any notions of having promotion secured a month before the end of the season have to be put on hold now, but I hope that week on week we will start to recover from the mid

Bloody hell @Rambo16 this is a terrific post 👏 . And thanks for the line that just put a smile on my face too …

“With all that being said, I could be talking complete bollocks.” Let’s face it, most of us probably normally do!

  • Form has been patchy since December. Goals dried up, especially at home. Losing Morley was a blow, but the struggle had already started. The new head coach could hardly come in and say he needs to rip it all up, which is obviously going to impact the players.

  • You clearly aren't giving facts. So it's either views or opinions.

    And everyone has those.

  • You have written off a new coach after two game against a Championship club who only beat us on penalties and a team battling for survival where I remind you we didn’t actually lose. Incredible.

  • Thank goodness someone can put things into perspective. After reading some of the depressing comments on this thread I had to check the league table and yes, we are still in second place.

  • Your view of the subject makes no sense whatsoever. You claim that Blooms was abused and forced out of the club and have evidence to support that claim. Dan Rice is the only person with authority to do that, as I can't imagine Mikhail is personally involved in the internal running of things. That being the case how can you have NO feeling either way on Dan Rice?

  • The most common misspelling on here is Humphries. So disrespectful. You know who you are, hang your heads in shame!

  • new kit ? , sad to see the quarters go but the bib collar could be useful to wipe sweat and spit.

  • I couldn't help but notice when we scored our equaliser that nobody huddled in celebration. Have we lost some of that togetherness that we were so well known for?

  • I have facts, which I have tried to summarise as much as I can.

I’m happy to share precise details in person, not in a public forum.

I have no feeling for anyone in this matter other than Matt Bloomfield who has been treated extraordinarily badly.

Nice little Wycombe Wanderers Documentary here, nothing ground breaking here, but with all the (bickering, debates and argument) some healthy some not so much, lets just let the last few minutes of it sit in. Watch from 8 mins 50 , this is why we all follow the Quarters.

    Chairboys Barmy Army

  • But Paul Emblem’s name was always misspelt wasn’t it. 🙈

  • Great post.

I’m fairly sure that a projection forward to the end of the season of results/goals scored per game since Christmas would put us below the automatics but probably still in the playoffs. That ties in with what I said immediately in the wake of Matt Bloomfield’s departure - ie that we would falter for a while as the squad adjusted to change (not least the need to integrate new signings) but that they would gel in time to do well in the playoffs.
