I feel like we’ve signed five of them! Look at me being positive. I think our last few additions will be loanees with limited league experience. We are short of a centre half for sure. The geezer from Netherlands or Lonwijk would be outstanding. Then we lack a forward (right sided with a left foot ideally) with pace.
A Barry Bannan or Alex Pritchard or Herbie Kane type creator who can make the difference in tight games with a bit of class.
I've obviously just named three of the better players at this level in recent years and such players would cost £1M plus I would imagine but perhaps there is something we could do in the loan market?
I think we've been missing a player like that for a long time now, perhaps since the days of Sam Saunders.
Ha , I apologise I plucked that from the Reading fans forum which is a right shambles of a layout and I subsequently realise that the particular post was dated as 2003.
We are so lucky having the Gasroom and the superb layout and ease of use it offers us compared with other shambolic fan forums.
Not that disappointing for me. We have Richard Kone and Dan Udoh as main centre forward choices with high hopes for both. Lubala, Hanlan and Vokes can also play there so the signing of another central striker in Dom Ballard would not really make sense to me.
As a bit of a forum hopper, most range from absolutely atrocious with ads and/or weird formats, to the mediocre. There are very few even on the same step of "clean and easily readable" as the Gasroom, let alone touch the general quality of poster!
To be fair that's probably a fair point.... especially if matty hasn't 100% decided on his top striking starter/s.... sometimes lots of competition can complicate things and much rotation to decide who should start means no one manages to get a hold of the position and grow into it
On a side note to this... do we want/expect matty to play 1 up top with an attacking mid pack to aid the striker and add to the goals.... or are we all wanting/expecting 2 up front?
I'm old fashioned.... I always liked a number 9 alongside a 10 that compliment eachother and magic just happens..... I'm thinking devine and jockey. One who will always find the net.... one with pace and trickery and will also find the net
I’ve noticed that Nigel Lonwijk doesn’t appear to have been transferred anywhere, yet isn’t in Wolves 2024/25 squad. Chem Campbell, on the other hand, is listed in their squad.
I think there’s a decent player in Campbell but he’s miles off playing for Wolves. Giving him a 3 year deal last year shows the academy for profit model. A season ripping up league 2 might help him.
I feel if we could get big Nige for a fair price that he would be a massive prospect for a future sale to a PL side, that is, after he has helped us into the Championship.
Dan Rice, when asked about competing with Brum in the transfer market, said we could spend that kind of money but are choosing a different route. So transfer fees would not be the barrier IF we wanted him. With current players and transfers so far I would be surprised if we went for, what would be, a massive signing in cost and squad status. And I doubt if Wolves would want a league 1 loan again.
Has Nigel done enough across those loan spells to guarantee regular championship football? I would suggest debatably not. We know he’s absolutely excellent. Do other clubs? Not sure.
Lommy has been clear from day one that this is all about improving Kazakhstan football via the development of their youth. To be honest, I don't really understand why buying an obscure League One club is the best way of doing this but it's his money and hopefully we'll benefit somehow. The youth need a decent training ground and the development of an academy and he's immediately spent money on that. The youth don't need any expensive players in our squad this season.
I imagine we'll eventually be the overseas base of the Kazakhstan under-21 team. Kazakhstan are currently 109th in the world which is probaby sub League One.
The player that joined us was not ready for Championship football, the player that left us I think was. Top end? Maybe not. Plenty of clubs in the lower part of the Championship would love to have him I am sure, and there's some big clubs in league 1 who will pay good money for him.

Agree with that.
If we're to bring someone in you'd imagine it should be a game changer level player. Someone we've waited this long in the window for.

I would like:
CB cover
Midfield cover
One more dynamic wide player on the right side
Similar to me, but with the priority being the last one. With lots of pace, which I know is a very in demand and hard to get, asset.
Creative midfielder for me.

It looks like Dom Ballard is signing for Reading on a season long loan.
That's so disappointing.

Apologies 🤦🤦🤦
2023 not 2003

You can never have enough goal scorers though. And it appears the information was out of date anyway

Ffs 🤣

The only football forum that was similar to this place was the one on the When Saturday Comes website. Seems to have gone now.

I wonder if Colchester United signing Teddy Bishop today increases the possibilities of us signing Arthur Read.
I'm also old fashioned, would always prefer 2 up front

Have I missed something?
I think Kodua would be an able understudy for McCleary with considerable mutual benefit.

The squads are not finalised until early September with the Premier League.
Now he is over 21 I presume that leaves him out of the main Wolves squad so a loan will definitely happen as he is also too old for the U21’s.
I suspect they are looking for a Championship team as he’s proved himself in League One with us and Plymouth.
Alternatively he could be sold or return to the Netherlands.
I feel if we could get big Nige for a fair price that he would be a massive prospect for a future sale to a PL side, that is, after he has helped us into the Championship.
Yes exactly. Learnt my lesson and won’t stray from the Gasroom ever again. 🤦
I doubt we will have much more budget for wages. So a couple of decent loans may be the only option

At least it's not boring!
