Might have had a long day but can nobody on the punditry team at all see that getting into a decent position and then rather than shooting just turning away and dangling a leg is both a bit silly and not a desirable thing we want to see from forwards as a rule.
Also over apologising for a team that haven't tried hard enough to score goals.
A bunch of journeymen with a couple of talents welded into a team much greater that the sum of its parts? Ainsworth would be a genuine choice in a different world.
That was a horrible game to watch. Scotland gave nothing and also tried the possession football nonsense. If you don't have the quality of players to play possession football (and they really don't) don't play it. Up until the injury it seemed like they were happy to play for the draw.
Having to sit through a game like that having to justify it others in the room is impossible.
He would be perfect for the current set up for sure. They have no strikers and he loves a team with no strikers. Clarke disappointed me with his rant about the referee probably not even speaking English. He should do his research before he makes such ill-informed comments that comes across as plain xenophobic. It wasn't a penalty, VAR showed it wasn't a penalty, the striker put his foot across the defender.
If current results hold, England would be set for the winner of Croatia v Switzerland in the QF (assuming we win group and R16), which is about as good of a path as we could hope for, though both are dangerous.
I hate third placed teams going through - it means someone can lose twice in three games yet still (in theory) end up as "champions of the world/Europe". Euros should always be 16 teams and WC 32.
Poor punditry either way, acting as though Italy might not go through in 3rd. They were already ahead of Hungary, and for the 3rd placed team in England's group to get 3 points or more, Slovenia would have to beat England. Possible, but unlikely.
Comments
Scotland have overtaken England now in the race for most tedious match of the tournament.
England can still hold their heads high for bagging both 2nd and 3rd place though.
Incredible, given both teams need a win. I expected blood and thunder, but it has been a small scratch and a gentle south wind.
Oh no, this is very concerning.
Great. One point and we kill a player.....
Yeah. Didn’t like the way he was twitching after he went down.
As a Wycombe fan, I'm used to games finishing 15 minutes later than expected.
Scotland could use Bayo right now!
Still think Scotland are going to sneak a winner for the most undeserved "heroism" narrative in a while.
Germany really suffering from not having a decent striker.
At least the Scotland manager keeps it tight with shit players. What's Southgate's excuse for doing the same with decent ones?
You've got me at checkmate there!
Waiting For Goalo........the history of being a Scotland fan
Germany stealing 1st place late on means if we come 2nd in the group we'll play them next round!
You won't. It's a cakewalk to the semis where one of the grown-up teams will beat you.

Clarke out Ainsworth IN
Very true. Scotland never had a go until Hungary were leaving massive gaps by being positive themselves.
So if England fail to beat Slovenia and come 2nd, our route to glory could be Germany, Spain, Portugal, France.
Run that gauntlet, and I'll take back everything I have ever said about Southgate not being able to beat a contender!!!
However, we will beat Slovenia and get something a little easier!

I did wonder.

The xG of 0.0 in the first half is a world record. They can never take that away from us.
Moyes next?
Moyes would be perfect for Scotland.

@Kim_il_Swan it's so easy to qualify for the euros now there will be more tournaments to come I'm sure.
Hoping you aren't knocking on heaven's door!

Croatia really are a wily old team. Strange to think they are an Italian goal away from being probably knocked out. I am hoping they hold on!

Narrator's voice: "They didn't".
