FA have confirmed it’s due to a possible ineligible player…but yes, there are so many questions. The biggest one is why has it taken this long to identify the potential error - Barnsley were punished over a week ago for the same alleged offence.
If it's as described above the case is a bit different.
The Barnsley case was open and shut, A player was out on loan when the first game was played, that made him illegible for the replay, that was missed, the player played and the offence was clear, acknowledged and punished.
If a club is intending to play an emergency goalie by claiming there is an injury to another player it's a little bit greyer, but even then - this game hasn't taken place so if the FA have suspicions surely they can warn them off and tell them they pick him at their own risk. Calling the game off on the off chance seems bizarre.
If it's a potential issue from a previous round then you are right it is very last minute and might they then have broken league rules too in-between?
A possible scenario for the sudden postponement could be that the goalie who has been injured is now fit, but the club preferred to carry on using the loanee. The number one got pissed off and grassed the club up by informing the EFL yesterday.
First two seemed to do with unsure footing in icy conditions (yes, I know the strikers seemed ok, but it always seems easier latching onto a mistake) and the third was just keystone cops.
So another couple of good honest professional opposition players told Steve Evans he'd been robbed by their side today. He's obviously popular with lots of players if not officials.
I really rated him as a GK for us and I have to say that I think his shot stopping is so good that it makes up for the apparent weakness of not coming off his line and being a 'presence'. If you've seen the goal though you'll see him berate his teammates for not closing down a 40 yard lob, which is quite amusing. It would be like David Seaman berating the wall after the infamous Ronaldinho lob.
They're struggling to punish their club for the alleged biggest systematic cheating campaign in the history of football, so probably no surprise here .
Now they've said they are looking into it, what more do you want? I'm sure it'll conclude with a decision at some point in the next decade.... Probably with an appeal minutes after if they dare to suggest any punishment.

Sounds like they’re getting a bye into the third round.

Look at the state of the goals Notts County conceded last night. A bit sus... https://twitter.com/LowerTiers/status/1730709327009181787?t=ZIn4hvoldINZ7cs2LBo9Hw&s=19
Those first 2 goals look terrible ! The 1st one the guy who slipped over didn't even bother trying to get up and chase ! Just lay there watching

I just found the Brazilian Oxford United https://www.instagram.com/p/CwuGxoquArP/?igshid=MzY1NDJmNzMyNQ==
Spare a thought for Fleetwood who are already three down at Cambridge.
They hated the old boss that much?
I hadn’t even thought about that. Super Kevin Betsy!
If you want to divert your football attention and cheer yourself up with euro shenanigans the draw for the Euros is on the red button now.

Allsop got lobbed from 40 yards as Hull lost 1-2 to Watford
Probably doing his shoelaces up at the time!
Can't believe he was off his line

Leeds have been drawn away in the FA Cup for the 13th time running
I think they said Hull had been on a good run...so he can't be doing too badly.
They're still in the play-offs
Reading lose to Eastleigh. Arf.
Hadn't clocked Richard Hill being Eastleigh's manager.
Assisting Gregory feels like a lifetime ago now
Saves us from the most pathetic loss of the round award.
I know Premier League is not everyone's cup of tea, but Man City v Spurs is everything that yesterday game wasn't.
Apart from Spurs' poo-coloured kit
A lot more going on but still fairly shambolic.
Absolute dipstick grade refereeing to pull that back
Haaland should be banned, as the supposed best in the world he can miss sitters but the ref can't get one decision wrong? Which one is paid what?
