‘Market forces’ is interesting. I’m very much of the modern (top level) football is gash camp but that’s possibly because I’m older and have gone way past the teenage phase of ‘I must watch Getafe v Celta Vigo’. Plus, a lot of the big stuff like the UCL is paywalled (albeit BBC highlights now but meh, that ship has sailed for me).
Arguably the golden goose has never shone brighter. Attendances are up everywhere, even in non-league which has seen an influx of priced out fans. Maybe that was the idea all along? To use market forces to price out certain sections as they’ll find their fix elsewhere and be easily replaced by the wealthy and tourists.
In terms of any impact on our attendances…well, our poor attendances, while not helped by market forces, the new Sky deal, and many other oft-debated factors, seem to be very much a WWFC problem. Everyone else seems to be doing ok.
