In Gibraltar it's kicking off too because Lincoln Red Imps fielded a suspended player against Lynx when they played. Lynx believe the rules state they should be awarded the win but the GFA just gave Lincoln a slap on the wrist. Lynx are reportedly escalating to UEFA because the rules specifically say that while the GFA will try to keep up to date with suspensions and eligibility requirements, the clubs also have a duty to keep on top of it and are liable for mistakes.
Came across this whilst reading about Frank Soo, the first Chinese player to play for England, albeit only during World War 2 and not therefore officially recognised.
I find it odd that they describe him as Chinese (Soo), yet he was born in England with an English mother (father was Chinese born), lived here all his life bar a few years managing in Scandinavia and by all accounts never set foot in China and could not speak Chinese. Add to that he played for England, not China.
I know this has been mentioned on here - I think fairly recently too - but I need to have a rant about overly qualified (or curated) sports statistics that are tailor made to try and make everything seem historical. We get a lot of these in America:
"Bob Billy-Bob just became the first left baseman to have three hits and a double play on a June birthday falling on a Wednesday"
Unfortunately this has made it's way into football over recent years, and now every week someone has had a historically good start to the season or historically bad start to a season, except that the amount of games that makes up that "start" keeps changing. Harry Kane keeps breaking records for the most goals scored by an Englishman in his first x amount of Bundesliga games, Bellingham is breaking similar "records" in Madrid, and so forth. Leverkusen just had the best start over x games, but does that "history" subside if they lose next week, or will a win keep the record going?
I am all for true history - most goals in a specific category over a season, etc. But this ever changing definition of "start of a season" just creates a fake backdrop to some very impressive goalscoring and points accumulating.
I broadly agree. I was writing about Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) earlier, and he's drawing Lewandowski comparisons because he 'broke the record' for the most goals in the first four games of a Bundesliga season.
It's useful for people doing the kind of job I do, but it's also kind of meaningless.
Exeter City football manager Gary Caldwell has been banned from driving - despite claims a disqualification will make it "extremely difficult" for him to recruit new players for his struggling squad. The former Scotland international was clocked at excess speed on two occasions - putting him over the automatic 12-point limit for totters.
He agreed he "doesn't have the best" driving record and it was pointed out in court that he now has as many points on his licence as the team has in the league. But he argued that any ban would impact on his ability to travel the country to meet potential new players during the January transfer window.
Cambridge have sacked Bonner, and Ainsworth is unsurprisingly being bandied about by their fans (mostly positively). That would be an interesting fit, as he played there and from what I saw in the 0-0 against us, they have some players that would suit him.
My guess is that it is too soon, but there are worse shouts.

Ah, that makes more sense then.

I'd not heard of Frank Soo, interesting read.

He was English.
Surely half Chinese
Stevenage reportedly looking at signing Cole Stockton.
Terry Venables has died :(
Can't believe he was 80. Always looked younger than he actually was
VAR has broken at Spurs!
Booooo, it's working again
Isn't VAR always broken?
I thought the same. Can't believe he was a year older than my father.
Sad news, a great football character.
Fair
Everton fans booing the Premier League 'anthem'. Hilariously pathetic.
The Premier League 'anthem' is indeed hilariously pathetic
Whatever that is
Weird atmosphere in the end, the goal after a couple of mins didn't help. What a goal by the way, haven't seen it again but some finish that.
Right back in the relegation mix now and a few tough games coming up after forest away next week.
2 games and 2 losses this weekend, taking the little fella to Barnsley tues with me so hopefully our luck changes.
It was some goal. Everton will stay up imho.
See you and the lad Tuesday. Wrap up warm!
I can't place the Premier League anthem, but I assume it is a coordinated dance to 'V-A-R' in a 'YMCA' style.
'momey money money' by Abba probably
It's just some generic jingle
'momey' in a nod to Salah

Based on how things have been going in the league, he is still allowed to reverse...
What is a totter?
Harold Steptoe was one.
