Oh let's not, I hope that Argentinians reluctance to mingle with English fans hopefully isn't down to the small banter segment who have never been to war but talk of little else.
Much nationalist spouting is encouraged by governments and press unfortunately.
Well, in fairness no-one rubbed it in their noses you're correct, but I'd say a lot of English fans have rubbed it in their faces for the best part of 50 years!
I always wondered what the hell Hodge was doing punting it back into his own area. I assumed it was a simple massive mistake.
To find out it was actually an intentional decision, assuming Shilton would be anticipating an idiotic high ball punted into the danger zone was madness.
Everyone knows about the second goal, although I can never work out why Peter Reid for one doesn't even attempt to make a challenge.
But 5 or so seconds before Maradona picks the ball up there's arguably a foul on an English player. Footage always starts just after that moment so it's not as well remembered as it should be.
Take any hatred of Argentina out of the equation: I don't see how the greatest player of all time winning the World Cup - in his final international match - could be anything but a good thing.
@malone I've often watched that goal and thought 'what is Hodge doing?!' and yeah Reid, but Fenwick should have clattered him. Let's face it..that's what Fenwick was in the team for..and he failed
I love dribblers, especially pacey ones who beat players. Someone like Messi should be top of my list for those factors.
But I just never warmed to Messi at all, and couldn't stand the way Barcelona killed games with their domination of the ball - I know some think that was peak football, but it's all about opinions.
Also I think greatest player of all time is a massively generational thing. For me it'll probably always be Maradona.
I think Messi is one of the greatest footballers of all time. And keeping 'hatred of Argentina' in the equation..he conducts himself brilliantly and is 'unargentinian' imho (I realise how bad that sounds). Far better as a footballer and a human being compared to Ronaldo if you are interested in such stuff.
Football is a team game though and personally rile against this trend towards individual stuff

The quest for the World Cup is not archaeology
If it is captured by the Argies the armies of darkness will march all over the eaeth
Having your government and press blame every problem on foreigners must be terrible, can't imagine how that feels
Indeed. But not really anything to do with the linked post
If you believe "they were taught it by birth" but don't ask who by or why maybe.
Tell me. Who or why?

Agreed. I'm just relating my experience
Can’t stand Argentina. I hope they lose to a Messi OG in the last minute of injury time.
In fairness, we should be thankful to Maradona: he provided easy joke material for whenever Peter Shilton goes off on one of his gammon-y rants.

I didn't agree with you on that pen the other day, but that scenario would be unbelievable to stop what would be a horrific outpouring of fanboyitis.

Never seen or heard anything like this. I guess we move in different circles

l can't see anything about England's third goal in the 1966 World Cup final there.
You can find any nonsense on the internet if you look hard enough.
Players didn't taunt the German players over the nature of the goal no.
But many fans have certainly relished taunting German fans over the actual win for years since.
Who would have thought it?
Next Brighton fans will be singing about Boxing Day.,,,or Wycombe fans creating a 1.73 banner
Don’t get me started on that penalty again!

I have contrasting views on this.

I know one of the defenders was on a booking so couldn't clatter him, that might have been Fenwick?
But the rest of them, for no-one to try some sort of reducer or lunge seems baffling. Especially when you had more licence to do so back then.
There was no '2bookings equals red' in 86.
I was 5 at the time so don't remember the whole game but guess they had been doing it all game and lapsed

Apologies for double use of the word 'stuff'!!
In your opinion
No shit
No arguable foul… our player got nailed!
I'm cheering for Argentina tomorrow. The idea that Ronaldo goes home in tears and Messi lifts the World Cup is just too beautiful.
