He was truly awful. Some of the other duds we’ve had there were just past their sell by date but him? Can’t remember where he came from or where he went to but Notts County away still makes me shudder
John has had some health setbacks in recent years including two replacement hip operations, but remains as cheerful and optimistic as ever. He still lives in the area and retains a great affection for our club. The players absolutely loved his coaching sessions and were very fond of him as a person. He’s a big fan of Gareth and constantly says what a great job he is doing. He’d be so pleased to know that he is still regarded with such affection.
He's had a wonderful career and is obviously a lovely guy, I read his book, he's been everywhere and never thought of himself as being above anyone or any club. Wether it's no2 at England or a coaching job in the lower leagues. Horrible and unfortunate the way it ended here for him but will only be remembered here with fondness for the way he carried himself and the football in the good times.
An amazing man, talented as a footballer, more so as a manager, fantastic human being, brilliant with the players as a coach & as a man manager. Can honestly say he is my favourite of all the players, managers and coaches, (and I have met a few), ever.
"It's just like watching Brazil" there can't have been many times League Two fans have sung that and meant it, no sarcasm at all. What a team, deserved promotion.
Have somehow missed this thread, just been catching up on it.
Tom Heaton's a really strange one for me. Obviously remember that he played for Wycombe, but don't remember any noteworthy performances from him at all. He often comes up in lists on here of favourite goalies, but I certainly don't remember much love for him either at the time.
Probably because we were deep in a relegation battle!
Like @glasshalfempty earlier, I'd definitely have Nikki Bull near the top of the list, for his heroics during 2010-11.
@Otter87 Martin Taylor (by some distance), Paul Hyde, Nikki Bull, Matt Ingram, David Stockdale, plus John Maskell and Gary Lester from the non-league days.
Absolutely love Stocko, he really should be higher in my list, but it's just that on some days, for some reason, he seemed to be on a different planet.
The only Heaton game I can remember was at Stockport County when we were 4-0 down after an hour, fought back to 4-3 and very nearly equalised through Betsy in the last minute. Can't quite believe that was 12 and a half years ago.
Please don't boo him. For the love of god, please don't. He gave everything to us and more on and off the pitch. I have nothing but love for the guy and I am sure everyone at Wycombe feels the same. For MK alone he should have had a statue built as he single handedly got us to Wembley that day in a goalkeeping display I can't recall bettered.
I have the feeling that there may be some cartoon booing but done in a spirit that will make Stockdale laugh. I have the feeling that he would be quite disappointed with referential applause. Probably the first time he takes a second too long over a goal kick (assuming of course we manage to get up the field enough for that).
But there should be no disrespect shown at all. He was superb for us and no problems at all with him choosing to move on.

I think calling Gorman an 'unheard of' manager when he'd managed Swindon in the Premier League is a little harsh...
Mark Foran at Notts County away remains the only time I have ever heard Wycombe fans cheer a decision to send off one of their own players
Indeed! He'd also been assistant England manager at a World Cup!!!
One of the highest profile managers, if not the highest, we've ever appointed
A talented and true gentleman to whom life has been more than unkind IMHO.
The football under Gorman was something else. As a spectacle of skill and attacking play, nothing in my 35 years of watching Wycombe has come close.

He was at a game quite recently, wasn't he?
Yes, came to a home game last season and was introduced to the crowd at half time.
Send him the gasroom's love next time you see him @glasshalffull, one of my favourite people ever associated with the club.

I wish him well and better health in the future.
Hear hear to all those words of unanimous admiration. Nothing less.
Thanks for all the praise for John, thoroughly deserved and I’ll let him know.
Apparently Stocko was star man today ! My how supporters change from week to week
Talia wasn’t so bad. Obviously the flymo accident didn’t help but overall he was a reasonable League One keeper.
Martin Taylor was a bit special though.
"It's just like watching Brazil" there can't have been many times League Two fans have sung that and meant it, no sarcasm at all. What a team, deserved promotion.
I liked Frank and thought he was good, but I unfortunately I did not see much of Taylor.

Tom Heaton was one of those players who just clearly belonged at a higher level.
Who would be in your top 5 @NewburyWanderer ??
@Otter87 Martin Taylor (by some distance), Paul Hyde, Nikki Bull, Matt Ingram, David Stockdale, plus John Maskell and Gary Lester from the non-league days.
For me Martin Taylor was easily the best, Stockdale 2nd.

Let's hope he has one of those days tomorrow.
I must have seen him play but I honestly don't remember ever seeing Heaton in goal for us or anything about his appearances

Nikki Bull was superb, I cannot belive I've forgotten about him.
Can't make it today but to anyone who is....

No booing from me today. Love the fella. Last year we sat right in front of his family. Top people too.
