It's unquantifiable. But that's irrelevant. We shouldn't be three games into a season having not replaced Stewart or Stockdale when we have nobody suitable in house already if we are confidently socialising promotion hopes.
But he has - see the second Bolton goal for starters. Which is to be expected for a goalkeeper not up to the level, but it's unacceptable that we're in this situation.
I was hugely impressed with Dickinson last night - if that had been a Stockdale performance none of us would question it at all. His distribution was his only weak point, but even there he played a sublime pass out to Mellor (I think) late in the second half. The decision to start the season with him looks like much less of a gamble then it did two weeks ago.
Sorry @StrongestTeam, you misunderstand. No way was Dickinson at fault with any of the goals. As I said on the day, they were all scored on the break as a result of sloppy loss of possession, with everyone pushed forward in our preferred early game gung ho approach. Even Jack Grimmer, our right sided centre back, had been pushing forward centrally (and indeed could easily have received a red card - he actually got a yellow - for a reckless challenge near the centre circle).
I was one of a dozen people who, without knowing what the lineup at Bolton would be, predicted a draw. 2-2 (my own prediction) was the favourite scoreline and, if we’d taken one of the good chances we had in the first half and Lewis Wing’s shot hadn’t hit the post (but gone in!), the outcome might easily have been a draw.
So experienced keeper like Stockdale, Allsop etc never made any mistakes. I assume you didn't see the "experienced" West Brom keeper being beaten from 60 yards by Sarr!
And of course experienced GKs also make mistakes, but they don't tend to get the basics wrong. As I keep saying, we can 'get behind' Tyla and assess his performances objectively / realise that we need a better goalkeeper.
Random thought..... Do you think that if we knew that Stockdale only planned to stay for last season then move on, we would have kept hold of allsop if he had plans to stay with us more long term?
Lets not forget that even the most secure keepers can have the odd mistake in them. Just look back to the Play-off Final and you find your first case. Dickinson has played in every game throughout the pre-season (except for the game after his injury at Watford) and he'll have a higher understanding with the squad than someone being drafted in as an "emergency" sub. So far, he is slightly raw in ability but I don't believe he hasn't done anything wrong to cause him to be dropped. Lets just get behind him and support him as he could develop into a really useful player for us.
Absolute rubbish, if Tyla let in a goal from 60 yards you would be jumping up and down like a demented chicken demanding that he never plays for us again. A keeper is clearly out of position to be lobbed from 60 yards.
Not really applicable to the way West Brom play, but they have to be there to be involved in build-up too. There is no advantage to your goalkeeper hanging back inside the box when you have possession in the opposition half. Sarr's goal was a moment of genius that wouldn't ordinarily come off and most players wouldn't even have the audacity to attempt.
He's gambled on waiting for a target, might even have an agreed date for all we know, he's done that because he is happy with his young replacement who so far has played very well and gained experience. Yesterday showed some glimpses of a future for this club to develope players into something that we couldn't ever hope to buy.
It comes down to this, If it's unnaceptable what would you suggest those above did about it? Sack straight away? official warning, or butt out, piddle off and let the man do his job? I'd suggest the latter, others may disagree.
We don't really know what he's done - but we do know that we started the season without replacing a quality League One goalkeeper, and that's not good enough if our ambitions are what they're said to be. I share @frequentstander's bemusement at how ok people seem to be with that.

Tyla has done nothing wrong to date and until he does so he shouldn't be dropped.

Two points lost.

You're saying that was a mistake by Button?
I can't even kick a ball 60 yards!
You are judging Tyla far too harshly because it fits your narrative.
He looks a really promising talent to me who'll only improve the more he plays (which this season will be the next couple of weeks at most)
I should hope not @mooneyman - at your age !
And of course experienced GKs also make mistakes, but they don't tend to get the basics wrong. As I keep saying, we can 'get behind' Tyla and assess his performances objectively / realise that we need a better goalkeeper.
It was just a ridiculous goal, looks embarrassing but not a mistake unless the GK is halfway up the pitch himself!

Retrospective hypotheticals seem a bit pointless to me.
They are bank rolled by the ex-players of Man Utd
Exactly. Money doesn’t always talk when it comes to football, as we know all too well.
I assume you mean ex players of Manchester United (as opposed to the ex players of Manchester United which would be rather greedy).

Thank you for correcting me @micra
Not correcting. Just smiling to myself at how wealthy Salford would be if all the ex players were backing them.
You’ve made me feel bad.
We can't exactly drop him at the moment anyway!

Lol
It's a shame, it's hardly unnaceptable.

I think it is, given the ample time we had to get Stocko's replacement sorted for the start of the season. It makes us look small-time.
If it's "unacceptable" and you literally can't accept it, what are you going to do about it?

Crowdfund Nathan Bishop myself
