It depends I suppose on whether you see that as an ambition or a benchmark against which success or failure should be judged.
For me it is very much the former. As a club GA and his team has achieved us punching well above our weight for a number of seasons. I don't take that for granted and understand it is unlikely to always be like this. Enjoy the good seasons while they last.
Christ Almighty, I had this dream we won convincingly at the weekend and our keeper kept a clean sheet. When I woke up it turns out that was just a freak result against a poor team and in fact if he plays again, despite evil promises to the contrary from people who should know better, we are f**ked and our dreams of promotion as far away as last season's were.
100%, If we'd spent Sunderland money and not gone up then sack everyone (like they did) but it's silly to expect it purely because we strive for it. Perhaps the messaging is confusing for some.
Bit of credit for the job Grimmer and Wheeler on Saturday also wouldn't go a miss tbh when people are considering squad depth. It's not as if we had the best squad in the division either of the times we got promoted recently.
People were definitely straying into the former last week and can assume the same will come at 2pm tomorrow if we aren't being kept in the dark, or presumably about being kept in the dark if we are.
You can know something isn't ideal but understand the reasoning and the gamble being taken.
Ah, I see "bedwetters" has now replaced "snowflakes" as the catch-all term to describe people who have the audacity to care about something that you do not.
No slight on Dickinson, but I reckon I could have kept a clean sheet Vs Burton, they had one shot at him right?
He's looked a good prospect whenever I've seen him, and he wouldn't be at the club if the management didn't think he could play league football in the near future, but he's thoroughly untested at league1 level
Our defence did a great job, and Burton looked dreadful.
It's the one position where you're really on your own though, and can't be eased in. Just glad he came through it, but the normal approach would be playing in the Checkatrade and maybe league cup to get some action.
It's been said many times that in football you have to take your chance when you get it. Tyla Dickinson has now got his chance. It's up to him to make the best of it. Good luck to him.
When is a risk a 'risk' . Are you saying it is not actually a risk? Though you've come a long way since your @wanderers82 esque early days @davecz you still do a lot of hoping about that Ainsworth's decisions. You should have more faith by now.
I am no @micra and like many others I hope to be proved wrong but surely putting apostrophes around risk suggests risk is not being used in it's proper sense and is either not actually a risk or is a quote?
So either @davecz thinks Ainsworth is taking a risk or he thinks it is not actually the risk other people (not him obviously) might suggest or he made a mistake with the apostrophes. I was not sure.
Sorry if your 'picky Gasroomer ' antenna started buzzing @StrongestTeam😊

Gasroom life is harsh.
Why no new players??????
We've got a really good team, so I think we're primed for a good season.
It just always re-assures you when you see better players coming in.
Bishop and a fit Mawson would have been an undeniable statement of intent.
However, were 100% with a great start behind us, onto Bolton.

Bedwetters or fans legitimately a bit worried about the goalkeeping situation?

Alfie Mawson
Bedwetters
Why does everything have to be so binary and extremist?
Ah, I see "bedwetters" has now replaced "snowflakes" as the catch-all term to describe people who have the audacity to care about something that you do not.
Grow up
Have you ever read this guy's posts before 🤣.
I don't as a rule, but sometimes people do the quote thing.

Just calm down. We're clearly going to get a new goalkeeper.
Tyla can do the job in the meantime. Might just be crucial in his career development.
How may games do we consider tested at League One level.
If he keeps say three clean sheets or gets a few drubbings until The Goalkeeper arrives and he's back on the bench, does that count as tested?
It's been said many times that in football you have to take your chance when you get it. Tyla Dickinson has now got his chance. It's up to him to make the best of it. Good luck to him.
Well, except he has now played at league 1 level, so not as thoroughly untested as he was before last Saturday.
27 pages of "Nathan Bishop set to sign"!🤦♂️ Yawn!
Yeah, which idiot started this thread?
You were young and untested at this level back in those days. We'll let you off. 😄
I think it would be easiest if we all just blame Manchester United. I’m sure that’s something we could all agree on.
Clearly Ainsworth is prepared to take the’ risk ‘this Saturday with Dickinson . Let’s hope it pays off. No new centre half either.

Is every single action any of us takes not a risk?
But not a 'risk', picky @Wendoverman even for here...
Deary me. The choice is:
Play Tyla for 2 or 3 games and get the keeper you really want, who is very very good for 43 or 44 games
Or....get a keeper you didn't really want and who's not as good for 46 games
Or to put it another way, you either trust Gaz and put your faith in his judgment, or you agree with @Wanderers82
@eric_plant agreed, although the risk is we end up waiting for Bishop and the deal falls through. Though I’m sure contingency plans are in place.

True, although it may also be true that there is no risk whatsoever of that happening, Gaz knows this and that's why he's so relaxed about it all
We'll soon find out because August will be over in a few weeks
