This will be just my cynical brain and no-one else thinking this..... But I'm wondering if there was going to be a big player reveal but something got held up or it fell through and they clobbered this GA news together to give the expecting fans "something"
Just my own boring musings, but in world where clubs provide their own high broadcast quality videos and Zoom calls, sky actually sending cameras around the country sounds very 1990’s and unlikely.
And with rolling 24 hour news and sports news channels, I’m sure broadcasters would jump at the chance of filling 5 mins of airtime on almost anything they can get their hands on.
Sky absolutely had a camera crew there, you can tell it's not our set-up by the clarity (you always get a tonne of wind noise on in-house videos at the training ground) and the fact he's wearing a 'professional' mic
Spot on sir. Wycombe sign new player (unless it’s Harry Kane), not a headline. Longest serving manager in the EFL and occasional Sky pundit extends contract, good story.
A bit different to the idea that we told Sky to turn up for a big transfer reveal, then quickly made up a contract extension for Gaz to cover it falling through 😁
But disappointed with the photo gallery of todays training. Usually like to see an ear of a player I don’t know or a blurred background shot. Leads to fantastic speculation about who it could be and kudos to some on here who can spot an Aston Villa under 23 player.
As I said, I don't think this was going to be the general consensus.... And I said it was just my cynical head... I don't think GA quickly added a year to his contract to give "something" to the fans. I think that this was already a thing and perhaps because of circumstances the news we have now as players contracts were not ready to be announced as news yet?
Probably nonsense. .. just thinking out loud more than anything 🤷😅
Thanks. That makes sense. In my (increasingly befuddled) head it was all tied up with the goalkeeper nonsense around the time of the Southend Play Off but clearly not.
Don't get me wrong, news of GA signing and extension is fantastic!!!
But..... Is it sky news live announcement worthy?
If he goes.... It will be to a bigger club, with big wages and new challenges.... The kind of club that will just pay us off and buy him out of his contract.... So yeah, I guess a longer contract is beneficial.....
I don't know .... Just didn't think that would be the live TV reveal 🤷
Conor Hourihane is supposedly ready so sign for Derby. Shit for the rest of the league if he does, could quite easily be the best player in L1 next season.
But surely depends on the rest of the team assembled around him. By the time the takeover is finalised or not...he may have gone elsewhere or Derby might have!
If you don't see GA's contract extension as big news then I'm afraid you have totally missed just how much GA does / brings to the club. Have a stable manager in place WILL mean we are more appealing to players.
Would you sign for a club that has a history of getting rid of managers at the first sign of a downturn in results? You could easily end up with a new manager that didn't 'fancy' you and be left on the sidelines for months.
He still had two years to run on his contract, he’s not going anywhere unless a big club comes in for him is he?
Has signing a one year contract extension meant that he would now turn down a potential suitor? No, of course not.
We all know he’s very happy in the job, he says so during virtually every interview.
Pleased that we will now be entitled to more compensation, and if this has provided another level of validation that he’s happy here, but really we knew he was already.
We knew Gaz was staying when Vokes signed on before the playoff final. There's no way Vokes would be signing on to an additional year if the manager situation was unclear. I agree with @Vincey and others - yesterday was underwhelming for all of the reasons stated by others.
And,of course, it's a two way street. The fact that GA has chosen to extend his contract says alot about the stability of the current ownership and the faith he has in the project.
Why was it underwhelming and what were you expecting? As I have already said, the prospect of unveiling new players was nothing more than speculation based on no factual information whatsoever.
It was underwhelming (imo) compared to rumours and comments by one or two users on here suggesting how significant a day yesterday would be, as well as the rumours swirling on Twitter.
Then, once Ian Baker tweeted that it wouldn't be Mawson or Bishop, it was relatively likely it would be an Ainsworth contract, so by then it was as I was expecting.

I suppose they can't show any tennis can they? Gareth standing in for Wimbledon.
Well he does love all.

Don't get this at all.
For Sky / the general football viewing public, it's a much bigger story when our manager extends his contract, then us signing a player.
Did we do an equivalent Sky piece when we signed Vokes for example? I doubt it.

We did do one for Vokes tbf, on the pitch before the Leicester friendly

Yep, you’re right but their priority over pre-season is just convenience. Derby is too far for them to travel for pre-season.
"New lads, round the back out of sight of the camera man"

However their takeover has been hit by 'More delays'.... Haven't Derby been here before?

Also enjoy getting excited about a new player only to realise that someone has a new haircut or it’s a kit man.

Well said, good to see that the majority of people understand how important it is to extend the contract of a successful manager who is in demand.

A excellent days work on both sides in my book.

The clichéd phrase "you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" is going to be very appropriate when Gaz leaves I suspect
His contract renewal is bigger than any signing
Im not sure that I’ve seen anyone calling for his head?
He’s the best manager that we have ever had and long may he continue in the role.
My point is that he’s hardly likely to just run his contract down, he’s unlikely to be sacked, so the only way he’s leaving is if a big club comes in.
A new one year deal doesn’t change any of the above.
It's bigger general interest news than us signing a player that's for sure.
"We're off to Wycombe to hear an announcement that they've signed a guy just released by Fulham".
Couldn't really see that eithe?
