It really is a good job that there is a level of anonymity and relatively short close seasons these days.
with no football going on we do tend to resort to petty squabbling to pass the time more than we should on here.
but all good fun…
and never unknowingly not putting my oar in…
for those criticising the club for raising (and then lowering) people’s expectations that we were about to sign x, y and/or z… Really?
as far as I could see there was only ever gossip and unsubstantiated rumours on here and social media that we were about to announce any signings and no teases or anything at all from the club. If people choose to raise their own expectations based on idle gossip (no offence @Malone) that’s entirely their choice, but to put 2 and 2 together and make 5 and then blame the club for 2 actually equalling 2 is bizarre and unwarranted.
and the longest serving manager in the league extending their contract is a newsworthy (and good - unless you’re a Plymouth supporter apparently) story
Reading the new squad numbers would be a hint that we already have our number 1 and 2 centre halves. Our midfield is also sorted. Whether they consider Al Hamidi to be a worthy first team regular is probably going to be the big factor with our attack.
I think the Mawson expectations were heightened when the BFP started running with it. How Ian Baker was able to get to the truth before someone dedicated to reporting on the club was is a different matter.
The MEN has reported that Nathan Bishop will be here on loan next season but that he’ll do pre-season with United, that seems likely enough to me.
I'm not reading too much into squad numbers, but Forino was always going to be pushing for a starting spot. We'll get another CB in and maybe a CF, but the club's tweet about "an exciting year ahead" for AAH suggests he had a good loan and is in the first-team picture.
I mean... There's never been such role as a 17 or an 18. And the only roles you hear referred to as a number in modern football are 8, 9, 10 and, to a lesser extent, 6.
🤣🤣 I was never disputing your theory because I agree with it, but it doesn't apply anymore. You don't have to be "a number 8" to wear number 8. I'm pretty sure there would have been a conversation involving the players in which most would have replied something along the lines of "I don't really care "
"serious mystique" is an interesting way of describing making the team worse then getting in a strop when they have to play in the Europa League as a result
When was this reported? I saw it suggested, but the most recent MEN report makes no mention of spending pre-season with United - so I'm hoping he'll join as any day now! Surely we need him to spend at least a couple of weeks with us before the start of the season anyway?

I reckon we are pretty much done.

Excellent post that sums up the whole episode perfectly.

It would be great, for all sorts of reasons, if AAH ended up as the regular back up for Sam Vokes.
Some AAH first team action will go some way to filling the Bayo social media / merch hole in the budget.
AAH has already been a Wembley winner with Bromley - a great loan indeed!
Not sure of the Mawson to Birmingham rumour,, they've just sacked Bowyer.
I wouldn't touch Birmingham with a bargepole if I were him (or any player)
If it's his only offer, and worth 15k a week, I dare say he'll not only touch it, but be all over it.
Certainly not over until it's done though.
If this is a "thing" you could argue that Horgan isn't "a 17" or Hanlan isn't "an 18". It's a shirt number. Don't read into modern day shirt numbers.
Chelsea were always insistent when Mourinho joined that 3 was a CB and 5 was a LB.

@Wanderers82 putting the boot into the club @davecz putting the boot into @glasshalfempty the start of the season cannot be far away.
And when did we moan in 10 years + that Bloomfield was a number 10? Until today I didn't even pay attention to it.
If roles are deciphered by numbers then Stockdale was never our number 1.
I understand "roles" and the old fashioned 1-11. What I'm saying is...why do we care? It's a shirt number. Means nothing.
It's really not that deep!
Tbf I did moan plenty that Blooms wore 10 😂

Sam Smith from Cambridge rumour been mentioned yet?
I like the old shirt numbering system, and I like it when teams match up the starting 11 to the right numbers, so to speak.
Some shirt numbers become iconic - Manchester United's no 7 has serious mystique, for example.
For those of you with long memories, which number would be the most iconic for Wycombe given the various wearers?
George Borg number 3, never has a shirt heard such profanities.
What position did he play? Asamoah Gyan wore 3 as a striker 🤢

He won't be able to do a full pre-season with United anyway - doesn't finish til after our season starts
it looks like we are the only team not making moves in transfer market, probably waiting to last minute so we can save a couple of pounds.
George played at Left Back.

I believe Exeter have yet to sign anyone.

And we’ve already signed Jasper Pattenden.
