Excellent point and I generally agree. I think the term 'champagne socialist' implies that said rich person is out of touch with the concerns of working people and that well intentioned though they may be, is inadvertently acting in their own interests.
People aim it at Gary Lineker a lot. He can't win - he takes in a refugee (maybe more than one, I'm not sure) and is seen to be doing it for attention or whatever. I think money unavoidably changes everyone, but that doesn't mean they all do a moral/political U-turn.
This topic has been a fun read. If Taylor can get the gasroom regulars turning on eachother with such venom, God alone knows what he’ll do to people who actually meet and work with him….
Or maybe he has changed, looked hard at himself and that’s what Matt and co. have seen? I agree that there are certain supporters who would happily have a convicted sex offender spared prison to play for them if he could maintain a goal a game average and that is very sad. The same is depressingly true in many other walks of life, morally bankrupt chief execs kept in post as long as the share price stays high, predatory ‘creatives’ shielded from exposure if they are good for the box office, the list is long and shameful.
That said, being hopeful of moral growth in people who may have in their past behaved badly (up to a point) is a virtue and perhaps this is Matt’s position? It’s a short-term deal, we haven’t broken the bank and gambled our future. If he fits the club ethos all well and good, if he doesn’t, even if he scores goals, I expect him not to be encouraged to stay. In Matt (and his morality) I trust.
Also I am a Prosecco Socialist and in my fifties. If I didn’t work in the public sector it would be champers my darlings.
We've signed a player who doesn't like paying a lot of tax and thinks doing a curtsey at the start of a game won't change anything. You'd think we've managed to get Ian Watkins on day release judging by some of the comments.
Ignore the above if he goes four games without a goal.
Late to the party as I didn't have time to log on yesterday so a lot to wade through…
Delighted as always to see a thread veer off into new tangents.
An interesting signing
I have no particular problem with someone having different opinions to myself as it that is usually not so much about character and much more about education, upbringing, social circles, etc. (There are obviously some opinions that do say a lot about a person’s character).
Differences in viewpoints, thoughts and opinions are vital for the good of our species (think Nazi Germany, Notth Korea, etc for the dangers of group-think) but need to be done respectfully and tolerantly (think current day USA for when it isn’t).
So looking at it from a footballing side, this does seem a very shrewd move (unless we have thrown ridiculous sums of money at the problem) and a lot of credit should be given to everyone behind the scenes who have got this arranged so quickly in response (presumably) to Brandon’s injury.
A couple of possible concerns for me:
Was the lack of playing last season purely down to their being too many ‘better’ players in the Forest set-up?
Will he be any good in a team that recently has not been great at creating chances…
I wonder if these people, at about 9:15 down the pub suddenly turn on their companions, bellowing "that's not what you were talking about at 8 o'clock"?
Whilst drcongo is no more exempt from being cantankerous, preachy, inconsistent, hypocritical, childish etc - just like the rest of us; we need to remember that this is his sandpit, he sets the rules of play & can take the bucket & spade home any time he likes.
If only I could find the post a few pages back about Dale & Lyle Golden Syrup - now THAT is the type of about turn we fame ourselves on in the Gasroom.
Any other food brand pun footballer names out there?

Have a look a the description of what the forum is for, can’t see a “politics” tab
Create one then
Do you talk exclusively about football when you're at the football?
For God sake.... can you just say how you feel !
I think it's the preachiness that turns people off but there's a lot of subjectivity there.

It's odd isn't it?

My hope is that if Bayo likes him he can’t be that bad.
(Lyle Taylor, not @drcongo )
Im sure Bayo likes @drcongo too
If Taylor is as entertaining as this thread we’ll be champions by Easter.
For God's sake don't mention Easter. The manner if his departure still brings out the frothing rages in some Gasroomers.
He's now a licensed agent.
Nailed on someone will get cross
This is not a good Friday
