I think being paid more and playing in front of a rabid, loyal 50% increase on AP crowds against the likes of Rangers and Celtic will be a mouthwatering prospect for Anthony. Plenty of Tunnocks and Irn Bru up there.
Aberdeen supporters don't seem very enthusiastic about the signing. Maybe they're always like this with English players signed from outside the Prem, but hope they don't get on his back from day one.
Shame to see a 9 or 10 year history player leave of course, but I always felt he was fairly overrated by a lot on here, often lauded as some sort of ball player when he did a lot of knocking aimless balls. When I think Taf is the actual quality ball player we have at the back.
What I did think he was really good at was recovery, strength, heading, more pace than Taf (so was surprised when someone was arguing with me that he wasn't good in the air the other day!)
I think we'll be pretty ok.
I can remember feeling a lot more gutted when players left in the past.
Tyson, Betsy first time round, Williamson being top of the list.
It's a long time since a player left under a noticeable cloud isn't it? (I suppose Fred sort of shuffled out without the club mentioning it much.)
I cant think of the last time it was a shock or when fans cheered rather than wished them well. For me losing Harriman just before we got the RC money was a slight disappointment.
Don't forget the part Charles Dunne may have player in this. They're still very good friends if you believe Insta, and he's been up in Scotland for a good while.
I guess you mean culturally rather than geographically, they will be 150 miles apart, two and a half hours by car. They won’t be meeting up anytime soon.
Didn't exactly work out for their other mate Junior Morais that move though.
You cant take any figures from last season as indicative. On Boxing Day the Dons played at home in front of 500 fans due to Covid restrictions. A local derby as well against Dundee. The gate could have been pushing 20000 under normal circumstances
They also had restricted attendance in other games.
In 2018/19 the last full season without restrictions they averaged just under 15000
Very said to see Stewart move on but I think that this is a good step up for him. A real mixture of different qualities and a carrot of getting European Football.
Gutted tho, he was one of the key players last season and was always the one to throw himself in front of the ball when the striker was lining up a shot.
Guppy was theft. I like to think that him and Scott were the beginning of people paying attention to the non league upstarts. It continues and I could not be more proud of us as a club!
Keegan poached him, didn't play him more than 1 league cup appearance, then ended up selecting him for England later on.
Funny old game.
Was proud moments watching Guppy in the Prem for Leicester though, and being the best left footed crosser in the league, with arguably only Beckham better on the other side.

It's the middle of a slow off season, we (The Gasroom) have got to do something @StrongestTeam
Aberdeen have won European competitions before, not just qualified for them. Admittedly a long time ago.
Third qualifying round doesn't count!

Farther than we will ever get!
Not to mention the Haggis and Neeps!
You never know...
Couldn't agree more with every word of this. Good luck Tools, would love to watch you playing in Europe.
The very best of luck to you Anthony. It was always a pleasure to watch you play.

Gaz will find a good solution for sure.
Gasroom gets a mention in this thread:
Anthony Stewart - AFC and Scottish Football - AFC Chat - Aberdeen Football Forum (afc-chat.co.uk)
Most don't seem too negative on there to be fair.

Each to their own of course, but I’m really sad he’s gone. I think we take for granted how special it is to have so many long serving players.

Yeah, I realised that afterwards as well. Clearly a much bigger club than Wycombe - I don't think anyone was doubting that!

You've also forgotten about the deep fried Mars Bar!
I tried a deep fried Creme Egg in Cumbria earlier this year, and it was very nice.
Dundee & Aberdeen are some 70 miles apart stretching the idea of a local derby somewhat?
Aberdeen have actually been trying to sign Charles Dunne but they’ve been quoted 350k to sign him which is perhaps rather ambitious from St Mirren
Keith Scott to Swindon. That felt like a hefty kick to the nadgers! End of an era and all that but the season didn't turn out bad at all!!
It’s an hour in the car along the motorway and the Dundee clubs are Aberdeens closest clubs who they play regularly.
Its as local as you can get for Dons fans.
Good call.
I was a little too young to be a regular back then, but he and then Guppy the year after were huge blows.
Guppy probably more of a killer as Newcastle stole him off us, then didn't play him. At least Scotty was straight into Premier league action.
It seems incredible now, a 4th tier target man thrown straight into Premier league action! Bonkers.
Nah, it was clearly the allure of potentially signing his mate Dunne that's erm.."done" it.
