The chippy in Holmer Green doesn't do cards, cash only... and it's the busiest shop in the village and surrounding areas from what I see
I am quite cynical in general, but my immediate reaction to that is 'That's a bit dodgy'.
Why's that?
I just feel digital-only tends to be easier to keep track of. Then again, maybe that's the case if you operate with one format regardless of what it is.

As for the programme, I don't think people understand how difficult it is to make money out of print media these days. It had become futile - and the increased ads will have been to try and offset the losses it was making. Sales were down into the low hundreds for the biggest crowd of the season - not worth it.
I should add that Bobby C wanted to get rid of the programme when he came in. The club resisted and have tried to make it work - but it hasn't because the demand just isn't there. Can't say they haven't tried.

Maybe they just want to keep their revenue rather than have it skimmed off by the card companies.
I remember in my student days on a Friday night they’d be a huge queue at the campus chippy, not helped by the vast majority writing cheques for amounts as low as 50p.
I think we can all agree that cheques are best left behind.
I'm sure some people at the time furiously protested that cheques were important and should be retained.
I prefer cash as well. I have the facilities to pay contactless, (using card or phone), but some of my clients pay in the old "bangers & mash style". I tend to use it at the Holmer Green Chippy, the Chinese takeaway at Hazlemere X-rads, the Curry takeaway at the same location and Funky Elephant. The only way I pay contactless now is in the beer tent or ticket office where I have no choice if I want/need either products. I refuse to use the burger steamer thingy as I feel "herded" to it if I want to eat as I think it's overpriced and apart from the big games, we are given no other choice.

With Square who I use for part of my income it’s 1.75% they take, £20 upfront and no monthly charge. If I charge someone a fiver, I get £4.91. Personally, if 2x chippies next door were identical, one took card only and one took cash only, I’d be going to the card only one every time as I’d be a lot more confident that my hard earned money is going through the books like an employed persons income is. I won’t even get my hair cut in ‘cash only’ barbers. Hate to break it to some people, but for the convenience and time saving of operating these contactless options, I think you should be asking yourself ‘why does my favourite take away only take cash’.

Same, and they have said they might still produce them for special fixtures. We're not the first club to do it and we'll be far from the last.
Who else has ditched the programme? I’ve not been able to find anything from any club?
1.75% is less than most businesses will lose to cash handling errors and fake notes, and Square is one of the most expensive. For a high volume business like Adams Park you should be able to negotiate that down to less than 0.1% with a lot of providers.

Genuinely laughed at the club have tried their best to make this work. What a load of rubbish.
They started the season hiding them in the food outlets. Then they made a laudable decision to dedicate a hut to a respected supporter and sell them from there.
The content has been trimmed game after game. No opposition player information. Then no birthdays. Also producing horrible poster style efforts where the club decided the game wasn’t that important.
I’m not sure programmes have ever been a money spinner but the club now want sponsors on their new toys and don’t bother with selling programme adverts to help finance.

Hibernian are one big club to do it
So we are the first professional club in England to do it? Something to be proud of.

With all due respect, you don't know what you're talking about.

Not dodgy at all, my local chippy is the same. Many non-league football clubs only take cash, especially lower down the pyramid.

Very little respect with that comment at all. You have no context to justify that view at all.

Because cash might not go through the till, either trousered by staff or non payment of vat by owner.
Also some small shops (often kebab places or barbers) are fronts for county lines drug outlets.
Big bad world out there

In view of this discussion it’s interesting that Amazon Prime will no longer accept Visa credit cards next year.
There’s an argument or statistic to support most things. I suspect Amazon’s stance is to get preferential rates from other providers and Wycombe’s is to use the new WIFI. I just wonder why we can’t use both.

You forgot chicken shops !!
Knowing someone who works in the wholesale business supplying takeaways the HMRC is the most worrying aspect for them with the cashless society post Covid. No more one for you one for me with the tax man suddenly their whole turnover is seen through the books and lots are having to explain the massive growth in their business.

I assume you insist on only using builders who do the same thing then. No cash reduction / non vat for you.

Americans love them.
I think it's possible to both be sad at the passing of the matchday programme and understand why they've stopped producing one
That's certainly where I am on it

Nobody has really explained why it is not possible for the club to sell chips in the ground or Vere Suite anymore?
If anyone is realllly interested in issues around cashless society, here’s a brief 130 page report https://www.accesstocash.org.uk/media/1087/final-report-final-web.pdf

If my employer said I had to take a 1.75% pay cut I’d be annoyed,

Cash is more challenging to deal with than card.
Due to:
A 1.75% fee for card is small in comparison.
In view of this discussion it’s interesting that Amazon Prime will no longer accept Visa credit cards next year.
I think that’s more around Amazon’s relationship with Mastercard.
