Toon fan I know claims Ashley ruined the management and business infrastructure of the club...but I would imagine at this stage Derby County fans would not care that much.
Is there a website where you can get a Summary of Ashley's time at Newcastle?
Were they run sustainably? How many years did they make a profit? Dividend payments out to Ashley and other shareholders.
I always felt he ran a tight unit and wouldn't spend money they didn't have - which of course goes against the grain of how some EPL fans want their clubs to run - spend, spend, spend like Derby.
However, I've never heard much about what money he took out of the club and whether they were left in huge debt or not.
Seems a pragmatic owner, rather than a spender...I'll admit I've done zero research.
I have no time for Ashley and his business ethics but the majority of the criticism aimed at him appeared to be based on a lack of ambition and a lack of support in the transfer market. To which I say kudos. Rarely can a club be successful on a shoestring budget like Liverpool has been (brilliant PR guys) so chucking money at success is the only option. And it does not work.
This is how well run they have been in the 10 years up to 19/20. They had one massive blip in 2016/17 when they were in the Championship and lost £90 million in a season on a wage bill of £113 million. I think this is still a record wage bill for the Championship.
Imagine where Derby would be now if Ashley had taken them over instead of Morris in 2014.
The Couhigs are running a similar ship in my opinion but are much better at the commercial aspect and us Wycombe fans are certainly not of the Newcastle fan mindset.
The comparison will be when the new season starts. If Derby can’t show proof of funds to complete the forthcoming season I personally can’t see that the EFL could justify a different decision to that imposed on Bury
Twitter alight with blame tonight. Apart from the obvious one Kirchner the blame is aimed at the administrator, the government, Mel Morris, the EFL, the uk insolvency laws, etc
Currently missing from the list of villains are ourselves and Derby County themselves.
Still no sense of self awareness or contrition even after all this time.

Google Mike Ashley and see how he comes across as a person
Shoestring budget?
Didn't they set world records for goalie and centre back?
Plus repeated 30-40m signings of Mane,Salah, Ox, Diaz, Firminho Keita probs 50m etc.
You were probs being sarky though, but just in case.

Here are the final accounts before the takeover in October 2021.
NEWCASTLE UNITED FOOTBALL COMPANY LIMITED filing history - Find and update company information - GOV.UK (company-information.service.gov.uk)
The club owed Ashley a total of £107,000,000 on June 30th 2021 or companies owned by Ashley.
Hang on, did you suggest the Couhig's running of our club is similar to Ashley's running of Newcastle?
Derby fans must be reassured at how hard he's working today to keep the deal together.
admin must have misheard him to say he was going to pay by chip and pin when he was off to play chip and pin.
It must be hard to play golf when you can't afford a club.
Comedy Klaxon time !!
Isn't the difference between Derby and Bury that Derby still have some operational funds to keep going? Not sure for how long, mind...
That and the fact that for so long they've buried their heads in the sand (bunker!)

For sure. How 'operational' are they even at the moment? Hardly a functioning football club - they've got 5 players.
another deadline, this time being imposed by the administrators, lovers of irony - fill yer boots https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61731404
par for the course...if you'll excuse the golfing pun
I imagine there's a fairway to go with this saga yet
Pun king
Kircher is in danger of becoming a bogey man
I had his card marked all along
Did you mean Kirchner or is this a last minute rival bidder?
It’s silly season.
Perhaps he thinks that starting the season on -15 will see the rams at the top of the leaderboard. The fans must be LIVid.
@micra Now I have an image of that Lord Kitchener poster in my head, all moustache and pointy finger, insisting “Your football club needs you”

There must be some kind of regulation (surely) to cap the amount of money administrators can charge in these situations? Seems crazy.
Is ED trying to Stymie us with is comments?
