The real need is for a goalscoring forward -it's so obvious

We need to control the ball and make more chances as the priority.

Totally agree @Malone. The potential goalscorers are already in place, albeit two are recovering from injury/surgery. I would be in favour of playing Fred more centrally with Wheeler on the right and A N Other on the left, the latter having the pace and nous to cover for JJ when under pressure on that side. Shame Wheeler couldn’t perform that role (I assume) because that would provide an opportunity for Jason McCarthy to bomb down the right, providing crosses and a genuine threat from free kicks. Also leaving Jack Grimmer to concentrate on the defensive side of his game, at which he excels.

  • Were we not linked with Kevin Stewart at one point? Currently a free agent

  • I still live in hope that we will one day see Fred played through the middle.

  • looks like no signing for us .....season going to be a tough one...Still massively proud that we are in championship however would of been good to get some signing and giving us a better crack.at staying up

  • Hopefully there is a left back and creative midfielder in the free agents pool. Although massively proud of my team being in the Championship , not sure the club have given Ainsworth the squad to give us a fighting chance of staying in it.. Even more disappointing bearing in mind , it does appear there will be a rescue package for all EFL clubs.

That's a rescue package. It's not an invitation to be reckless as someone else will bail you out. That's the thinking that sees so many clubs overreach.

why are we leaving things to the wire ? we really do need a couple of quality signings....if we don't I really feel that this season could be an embarrassing one....I am hoping not. let's hope our new number 9 will be fit....at last !!

Let's disagree massively over one point. There is no scenario whatsoever where any Wycombe fan should feel embarrassment over our club spending a season in the Championship. All the squad have earned the right for a crack at it. Giving up on them is an awful reaction and new signings aren't a golden ticket to success.

Aren't transfer deadlines all about going to the wire. Especially for us without the financial clout of others? Anything happening today will be part of a long term plan. If nothing happens then the club isn't any weaker.

    Absolutely brilliant post

To be competitive we would have had to spend about 13 million on wages. This would still leave us in the bottom five in terms of wages.

We can’t afford to increase wages by 500-600%. We will be lucky to have a turnover of 9-10 million this season.

I am disappointed with the start to the season but we have players to come back and the money we are earning this season will see us survive where many will not.

In terms of trying to estimate wage bill, the average Rotherham player in 2018/19 was only on £3,600 a week - which gave them a wage bill of £7.8 million. Apply that salary to our squad this season (excluding loanees) and it's £5.2m. The biggest chunk of extra revenue (TV money) is, what, £9m? And we've had to make stadium improvements and factor in the loss of matchday revenue on top of signings and wages. I expect it gets eaten up pretty quickly.

  • @Malone - Certainly not asking the club to be reckless but hoped that with the safety net , it would allow a little more wriggle room for us to get in a couple of players to give us a fighting chance.

  • A good window, but not a great widow. As positive as GA will be i think it's clear he's missed out on a couple of players we needed.

Worth remembering the last club our size to throw money at the Championship started this season with league games against Kings Lynn and Wealdstone.

  • Maybe it's just me, but he seems to have made more of free agents this year than before. Loan targets might have eluded us, but he's probably got some FAs in mind.

  • @floyd I looked at Yeovil's Championship season earlier. Guess how many players they signed over the course of it.

  • Loan deals are still being announced as we speak - who knows, maybe GA has already signed someone but they’ll announce it this evening / tomorrow before kick-off.

Good point. Plus the club usually announce if there's not going to be any more business

  • I'm just massively proud of the team I support.

    Correctly and unashamedly.

  • I don't suppose anybody's seen Jordan Obita refuelling at Cressex?

  • Saw some click bait today from a Sunderland paper giving free agent options for Sunderland to fill their squad gap at left back. Obita was one of a few options.
I think left backs are one of the few positions left that are so specialist. It's not a utility player role really

  • Oh no, not another winger. Another striker might come in handy.

EFL Hub: lots of followers but just another nonsense transfer rumour account - they just happen to be a bit less absurd than the ones which are just bots or blatant wind-ups. News of our signings breaks via actual newspapers these days anyway!
