  • It is clear more mid table teams will definitely be in next years division by the end of tomorrow's game so I'll publish the new list tommorow

  • Yeah I'm not sure Arsenal are suddenly some sort of marker of a tough game, but agree Watford have it all to lose.

Bournemouth have found a little bit of form, but still have to find a win with their fairly weak lineup.

Great viewing. Top 4, bottom 3, championship, and we can all sit back and relax now we're up!

  • Arsenal have 13 points from 6 games since lockdown so in fairly good form.

Brentford now look odds on to go up the Premier league.
That's an incredible achvievement. Not quite Wycombe, but still ;)

Brentford being in the Premier League could be very beneficial to us picking up some of their fringe players on loan.

  • Updated list for teams who are mathmatically and definitely in the division next year is as follows:

    Blackburn Rovers
    Bristol City
    Coventry City
    Derby County
    Millwall
    Norwich City
    Preston North End
    Queen's Park Rangers
    Reading
    Rotherham United
    Sheffield Wednesday
    Stoke City
    Wycombe Wanderers

  • Wednesday fans sounding increasingly worried that they'll have points deducted. I hope not as I'd really like to go up there if possible.

  • They need to sort out these points deductions before the last round of games really.

Sheff Wed could be down already, and Wigan would be in a perilous position, after squandering a win late on today.

Luton look a good shout to stay up all of a sudden.
Horrible for having to go there, but brilliant for a league 1 team staying up - we need to believe it's doable!
But it could well be with the helping hands above.

Barnsley, Hull and Wigan getting relegated would be very helpful from a travel/expenses POV. although it would deny certain people a tick.

Charlton go to Leeds, who could be on the beach already by then, on the final day - not out of the question that they also stay up. I think Barnsley will fall just short.

  • Would just be nice for it to be certain on the last day, and not a couple of teams being in limbo until the lawyers thrash it all out.

On another note, anyone know when the fixtures are out? They have to work out when it's all starting first!

Whatever we think about Luton, it would be quite a story if three of the four promoted teams from 2017/18 League Two were in the second tier together just three years later.

  • In one of the worst decisions in recent memory, Huddersfield have sacked Danny Cowley. Utterly bizarre.

  • Closely followed by Watford sacking Nigel Pearson.

  • To be fair, Pearson was brought in solely to save Watford from relegation. He has failed, so sacking is probably justified, particularly with so little time (probably) before the start of the new season to make the many new signings they will need.

Huddersfield whilst just safe from relegation, have had an extremely poor season under the Cowleys, so again they have acted swiftly to allow a new manager to rebuild the squad.

Not down yet though Watford. Villa could still grab that relegation.

As it stands, Bournemouth are going to have to win their last game. Pearson also would have been a great manager to have in the Championship. Maybe it shouldn't be by now, but I find the short-termism of these clubs staggering - 12 permanent managers in less than ten years for Watford and where has it got them?

As for Huddersfield, the Cowleys have done what they were tasked with: keeping them up. Obviously we don't the full details - maybe there's been a big falling out - but the club have got to go back to square one again now. They've only been there since September.

That said, the more basket case, direction-less clubs there are in that division, the better for our chances.

  • All helps us in an odd way, Ainsworth has said in a few interviews he's seen what can happen to managers who make the jump at the first ask, he's spent years getting the squad, setup and relationships as he wants them and wouldn't probably get the time somewhere else .

  • Exactly. It's no coincidence that Leeds only got it right when they put a proper plan in place (even if that plan did include one of the best managers in the world). Brentford also have one of the most concrete strategies in that division and have built sensibly towards promotion for quite a few years now.

  • Brentford have had 9 managers in the last 10 years though @chairboyscentral, so not exactly a concrete strategy!

Only two in the last five, though. And Dean Smith only left because Villa came in for him - then Brentford appointed Thomas Frank from within. Watford have had six permanent managers in the same time, including the same guy twice.

  • They may have come unstuck this season but where it’s got Watford is 5 years in the top division which on attendances of 20,000 isn’t so bad. And a cup final too, for whatever that’s worth these days.

  • Now if Watford do come down that’ll be REAL local derby.

In fact back in the non league days some people over in places like Amersham and surroundings and coming back towards Wycombe used to go to Watford but would come to Loakes Park if Watford were away when Wycombe were at home.

Some I knew who did that but have passed away since would have been really excited at the two teams in the same division something they never imagined happening coming true.

Not sure who has jumped the gun more ludicrously, you or the Watford chairman!

  • But it happened in 1996 and 1997 @DPR97

  • Amersham and Chesham both still full of Watford

  • With the championship win fall, never a better time than now to allocate some funds to promote ourselves as Buckinghamshire's true representatives.

Its "rumoured" the sacking was due to gross misconduct during the West Ham game so may not be as ludicrous as you suggest. However we may never know. I accept my prediction of Watford going down may prove to be ludicrous, but we will know that in 7 days time.

eh? Watford are 5/2 to be relegated?

By that reasoning, Ainsworth should have been sacked after the Torquay game.

The Cowleys haven't really had time to create their own squad; as Wycombe's recent history shows, it takes a few years to build something in a manager's image.

Pearson shenanigans sounds a lot more reasonable a reason. I doubt any of us would be surprised if he's got a "bit of an edge" when pushed.

And it's by no means ludicrous to link Watford and relegation. The ludicrous bit was the jumping the gun declaring it as done.
