Kortney has been injured since September and has been pushing for a knee operation.
Watford who have him on loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer do not agree with the operation that will see him out of action for months. His parent club, Aston Villa do not want him to have an operation either.
He has been stuck in limbo with neither club willing to support him or pay for his surgery.
Watford have now dropped him from their squad for the remainder of the season and Villa have refused to take him back as the loan deal has no break clause.
If the medical teams of both clubs advise AGAINST having an operation why should Hause expect them to pay for it? Additionally, if he is unlikely to be available to play in the near future you can't expect Watford to keep him in their registered 25 man squad. As Aston Villa are still the owner of the player, surely Watford could not in any case authorise any operation without Villa's approval.
If the reason they're against the surgery is that it puts him out for months, yet they're happy to have him in limbo not playing elsewhere, that makes utterly no sense.
I think Kortney probably feels that had he been playing well for Villa and not out on loan they would have been keen to get his knee fixed with surgery. My guess is it is a money and contract issue that is causing both clubs to disown him.
A difficult situation to be in when he probably can't pay and arrange surgery himself as it would be breaking his contract. He has pointed out that he feels like a "prisoner" and has been unable to get either club to fix the situation in three months of negotiations. All while his knee remains injured and possibly doing further damage.
This type of situation would never arise if we were one of the clubs involved and Gareth was still our manager.
I can't see how Villa would seek to "disown" him on financial grounds as he has a contract until 2025 so they would have to continue paying his substantial wages.
They would but he has a contract with Watford until the end of the season with no break clause. I also understand that Watford have a deal in place to sign him in July. Somewhere in the T&C's the two clubs are at loggerheads and it is keeping Kortney from having his op, that's how I read it from his point of view.
If all parties can agree it needs doing and it's just a case of who pays, or even if there is disagreement on that you'd hope the PFA could broker something. Both clubs have a duty of care.
The crux of the matter as reported, is that BOTH clubs medical experts asvise that an operation is not needed. As I see it if Hause still disagrees then he should seek independent medical advice. Whilst that will cost him money, he is not exactly hard up as he managed to crash his £180k Lamborghini into a school about a year ago!
Probably, would be a brave call from a player to agree to cancel their contact and pay for all treatment themselves with no rehab facilities, insurance or guarantees for the future.
You can't just cancel a contract without getting sued by the other party. Cheleea have just signed Fernandez for £105m, can you imagine the repercussions if he tried to do this?
Yeah, wasn't suggesting that, more responding to above, I'm sure both of those clubs he's involved with would happily let him walk away by mutual consent rather than fulfilling their obligations to him in terms of future pay and welfare, but as above he's not going to do that either unless they agree to some kind of payout. There is an angle of litigation he could follow but it would likely drag on for years by which time his injury could worsen and his career end anyway due to age.
The dispute seems to be whether Hause needs another knee operation or not. Not sure how the PFA could resolve this when both Watford and Villa's medical experts advise against further surgery. Assume the PFA got a surgeon who recommended an operation and it went wrong who is liable?
The PFA are there to represent and mediate, if the situation is as described above they can look at evidence from all parties, If Hause's doctor or the PFAs suggests something different they'd probably ask one or other of the clubs to reconsider rather than doing it themselves but they do have funds to advance where appropriate with disclaimers to be signed no doubt.
Interesting on a Villa fan group twitter post most of the replies were suggesting that Villa should look after him themselves then argue it out over who pays.
It’s hard to resist reading everything on each and every thread but, boy, is it time-consuming and damaging (on an iPhone) to the eyesight .
Give it a day’s break and what happens ? You are shocked to discover things like “224 new posts” on a single thread. So you think, I know, I’ll just go to the last page. It doesn’t work. References are made to earlier comments which you need to scroll back to because the link (if any) doesn’t work.
Never mind, in less than five hours time, the Gasroom will spark into life with instant pithy comments on each and every controversial/disgraceful/inspirational/diabolical/life-enhancing moment of the most important event of the day. Can’t wait.
Due to a strange rule regarding crossing FAs, Stewart’s Scottish League Cup suspension has to be served here now he’s made the move. As we understand it, Dons have appealed it during the week to no avail so he’s out, and will have to wait until next week for his debut.

Would need to know more about it wouldn't we?

Certainly doesn't make sense for Villa who have him under contract until 2025.
My guess would be that Watford didn't do a very good medical when they took him on loan as he had a knee operation last July whilst at Villa.

I wonder what the legal position would be if a rich player just thought sod it, I'm paying the 5k or so to get some operation.
Must be a breach of contract type scenario? There must be something in a contract about following club medical advice as a minimum.

Don't the PFA exist for exactly this sort of thing?

Surely 2 high profile clubs with their finances aren't arguing about which of them pays for an operation?!
That'd be utterly ridiculous.
Did you see anything else that happened on deadline day?
Clubs can stoop much lower than that - Cardiff tried to get out of paying the fee for Emiliano Sala.
That was one of the all time lowest bits of behaviour that was.
That would be an extremely basic op for £5K. Would barely pay for an anaesthetist these days! 🙄

Mehmeti on the bench for Bristol City
Stewart not even on the bench for MK ?
suspended
Dickinson not even in the squad for Sutton
How can he be?
They are getting the Mehmeti bounce without him even on the pitch - 2-0 up away from home at HT.
