I know there's some small teams in that league but if you're trying to go in to battle with the old firm that's a big jump from here. Victim of his own success maybe to be welcomed in, made captain and be a regular straight away. Personally doubt he would have had much media training through his career.
Fairly sure if he'd stayed here he'd have played a lot this season btw.
It's a real shame for Anthony that he has been given such a hard time since his arrival and then subsequently got sent off twice. I do hope he can win them over.
I've never been a fan of new signings immediately coming in and being given the Captains armband or Club Captain. It makes no sense to me. Needs to be done gradually.
If this goes from bad to worse, a cheeky little bid at the end of the window might be worthwhile!
I think the difference there was that El-Abd had been captain of Shrewsbury. Stewart during his time with us never (to me anyway) looked captain material.
Always been an outstanding player for WWFC. If Mawson leaves in Jan and he is looking for an out, would be very happy to have him back on loan for rest of season.
As I’ve said on here several times, I got to know Anthony Stewart slightly over the years and, in terms of personality, he always came across as quiet, polite and self-effacing. I think he did wear the captain’s armband on a few occasions last season but I’d agree with the suggestion that he did not strike one as being obvious captain material.
I was surprised when he was immediately made captain at Aberdeen but I think the manager was new (or newish) and there were quite a few other newly signed players.
On the incident that resulted in the lightning production of the red card, I have a smidgin of sympathy with the person who said (on Twitter) that the speed with which the referee produced it was possibly to prevent an angry scrimmage of opposition players.
But I found it hard to discern (on a tiny iPhone screen) how dangerous Anthony’s challenge was. The triple (? quadruple) roll by the Rangers player must have been a (handy?) influencing factor in the referee’s instant decision.
Much as I admire Anthony as a player and a person, I don’t think this is the right time to consider “a cheeky little bid” !! Apart from anything else, we are well served in central defence and Jack Grimmer (currently playing in the Anthony Stewart position) brings more to the party.
There can't seriously be any doubt that it was a reckless tackle - late, high, and overly aggressive - therefore a red card was appropriate.
Regards the comments about the Rangers strikers, I'm struggling to see what the problem is. He's been asked to compare 2 players and says he feared one more than the other. Why is that controversial? Or have I missed something?
Totally agree regarding the (mock?) outrage at his comments. Says more about the nature of the Scottish media’s coverage of the Old Firm than Anthony Stewart in my view.
Imagine if he was still here and the media asked him for his views on the Bristol Rovers front two ahead of Saturday. Would the local media and the opposition manager really lose their shit over it…….oh! hang on.
Because that's the sly way the press operate at higher levels.
Compare two players, fair enough he may rate one slightly higher. The press though revamp it as "Stewart has no fear at facing xxx" or "Stewart does not rate xxx".
And that sort of stuff just puts pressure on and motivates players and teams.

The increase in interest and scrutiny has probably caught Stewart absolutely cold.
The most intense interviewing he had at Wycombe was probably the Bucks Free Press asking how much he enjoyed the Oxford play off game.

Adam El-Abd was named captain immediately after signing for us, wasn't he?
Possibly, given my memory is going, I suspect I wasn't very pleased about that at the time!

You do wonder what the decision was based on too.
He'd never been our captain, and wasn't ever one of the generals, despite being of an experienced age and having been with us a long time.
It just looks to have added unnecessary pressure on him, when there was already plenty stepping up to a bigger club in a different country.

I didn't understand the controversy either. Plus it's Morelos, who attracts more than enough controversy through his own actions...
It reminded me a bit of Pattison's reckless one in the championship.
The opposition steaming in certainly didn't help, but hard to argue it wasn't a red.
It's a shame things are going pear shaped up there, but he'll always be a legend here.
If I had a tenner for every time his performances were described as imperious……
Ironically, one of the steadiest, most disciplined defenders we’ve ever had. He really doesn’t deserve the present “aggro”.
PS I know, it used to be a fiver. That’s inflation for you.

The Stewart tackle looks even worse from this angle. Is he trying too hard to, well, be hard now he's in the Scottish Prem? https://twitter.com/lc_1888/status/1614669753146023938
Too much Irn Bru?
Red card all day long but a world class roll as well!
Matt McClure leaves Gloucester City to join Chippenham Town.
The Gloucester fans aren't happy with the club for letting him go.
Why? Not been scoring goals has he ?!
Aberdeen’s defence is leaky without tools

I can’t imagine he has the tools in his box to take on such a role.
He of course attended a Bucks grammar school
We wish the Challoners’ boy well. Or did he have to go to RGS to win Gasroom support?
Its not an RGS exclusive surely.
Shout out to Mat (one of our own) Ingram learnt his trade at John Hampden Grammar.
