Milton United v U23s - Southern Regional D1N - 2pm, Milton Heights, Potash Lane, Milton, Abingdon OX14 4XB
The U18s have no game.
Milton have had two wins and a draw from their seven games, with 55 goals resulting in those eight games. Last out a 2-0 win at Chesham Devs. They lost 13-1 to the Firsts in the FA Cup at Burnham in September.
Selsey have picked up two points from their eight games, and lost 3-1 to the Chairgirls in the reverse fixture in September, Lynch, Harte and Kassem on the scoresheet.
Penn & Tylers Green v Firsts - Southern Regional League Cup 2nd Rnd (last 16), 2pm, French School Meadow, Elm Road, Penn HP10 8LG.
U23s v Ascot United Reserves - Southern Regional D1N, 2pm, 1878 Stadium, Wymers Wood Road, Burnham SL1 8JG.
The U18s have no game.
Ascot United Reserves are the D1N league leaders, having won eight and lost two. They beat the U23s 5-3 in the reverse fixture in September.
The Firsts have that rare opportunity to play in their home town area, and supporters will look forward to seeing them there. Penn are unbeaten in the league, with four wins and two draws, and their few number of games compares to 12 played by the Chairgirls. Last Sunday they beat Slough Town 6-0 at home. Penn have lost in cups, 3-0 to QPR in the FA Cup, 4-1 to Chesham United in the B & B, and 2-1 to Beaconsfield Town on Thursday last week, in the Combined Counties League Cup. Not sure how those two teams get to play in a competition for a different league.
This should be a competitive game, in front of a good crowd. Hopefully the game goes ahead, in spite of the coming storm. The pitch was used last Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, and will be used by Penn U23s tomorrow. The most recent video I can find of a game there is Beaconsfield Women's win there last week, and the pitch looks in good nick.
The match thread opened by @A_Worboys contains local eating recommendations. There is a car park at the ground but it is small and fills up early, but there is general parking outside in the village. I will be at the match and hope to see some Gasroomers there.
Some interesting information about the Women’s teams came out at the Trust AGM last week.
WW Foundation are looking into the feasibility of the teams playing games at Marlow Road training ground. Clearly a lot of work would be needed to pass ground grading, and make it suitable for spectators. I'm not sure if floodlights are installed there but they are not mandatory until tier 3. Requirements here for tier 4 and 5, the latter being Southern Regional Premier level.
The club's stated aim is promotion to the National League, if not this season, then next season, and that would make grants available when few, or none, exist at tier 5. One of those grants is the Premier League Stadium Fund, details here for tiers 1-4 in the Women’s Pyramid.
A maximum cumulative grant of £100,000 is available, for 50-70% of the total amount of work. To qualify, the club has to own the freehold of the ground, or have at least a 10 year leasehold agreement. There is a separate fund for floodlights, up to 70% of the total amount.
Other grants include the Women's Football Infrastructure Fund, up to £20,000 for tier 3-4 clubs, and the Football Foundation.
Consideration of Women's teams playing any games at Adams Park will not happen until the pitch is relaid, and Dan Rice made it clear at a previous Trust meeting, relaying the pitch is not a priority.
Some players, at some clubs, in the Southern Regional Premier are paid, which includes WWFCW.
This season the Trust raised their annual payment to WWFCW, to £5000 from £2500, and have committed to £5000 next season.
Steve - a correction on last sentence - the Supporters Trust increased its contribution in 2023/24 from £2500 (2022/23) to £5000.
The Supporters Trust has committed the same £5000 for season for current season 2024/25 with a promise of an extra £5000 if the Foundation can organise and promote a WW Womens league game as 'WWST-sponsored' and make it free for all to attend.
The Penn game tomorrow is now showing on the league website as scheduled for 26 January, but not showing in the Postponed section, which has other matches called off tomorrow. No word yet on Penn or Chairgirls social media. It looks as though the match is off but we await a formal announcement from the clubs.
Reading FC Community Trust v Firsts - Southern Regional Premier, 2pm, Slough Town FC, Arbour Park, Stoke Road, Slough SL2 5AY
U23s v Slough Town - Southern Regional D1N, 2pm, 1878 Stadium, Wymers Wood Road, Burnham SL1 8JG
The final matches this month, the U18s next play on 11 January.
In D1N, Slough scratched to Ascot last week in the league cup, and lost 3-0 to the Chairgirls last month in the reverse fixture. The Rebels are mid-table with four wins and five defeats from their nine games.
With just five league games played, Reading have yet to register a point in the Premier Division. Last time out, two weeks ago, the Royals lost 3-0 at home to Ascot. They had a good run in the FA Cup, coming through 2QR and 3QR, before losing in the 1st Round at Aylesford.
Going into the break, the Firsts have won their last five league games, scoring 22 and conceding just one. They sit five points behind the leaders Ascot, same number of games, and play their next game on 12th January, away to Ascot, who will have played the previous week at home to Reading.
The U23s also play next on 12th January, at home to Beaconsfield Town, and the U18s are away to Oxford United on 11th January. Their last game was on 23rd November.
All three teams play this weekend after the break, a big relief to the U18s who have not played since 23rd November.
Saturday
Oxford United v U18s - JPL Warriors League, 1pm, Oxford United Training Ground, Oxford Road OX4 2RL
Sunday
Ascot United v Firsts - Southern Regional Premier, 2pm, Racecourse Ground, Winkfield Road, Ascot SL5 7LJ
U23s v Beaconsfield Town - Southern Regional D1N, 2pm, 1878 Stadium, Wymers Wood Road, Burnham SL1 8JG
The U18s travel to second placed U's, who have won four and lost two. It says the match will be on grass.
The Firsts need to make up five points on leaders Ascot, in reality six points because of the 20 goal difference. A win for the Chairgirls would really open up the title chase. They won at their place last season in the FA Cup and, in the 2-2 draw at Burnham in September, the Chairgirls finished the stronger team and had chances to win it. Those are the only points the Yellawomen have dropped, and they had the benefit of having played last weekend, a 6-0 home win against Reading.
The U23s host second placed, and unbeaten, Beaconsfield Town, who have not played since 28th November. The Rams beat the Chairgirls 2-0 on the opening day, and will have several ex-Chairgirls in their ranks.
For those going to Ascot:
Other news, the club have announced that they will be staying at Burnham for the 2025-26 season. That may mean that Marlow Road, as the new home, is not going to happen, unless they need more time to get it ready and agree a lease.
Yesterday's U18s game at Oxford is showing as "rained out" on the JPL site, so presumably postponed. An American expression, usually applied to baseball games I think.
Woodley United v Firsts - Southern Regional Premier, 2pm, UofR Bulmershe Pavilion, Woodlands Avenue, Woodley RG5 3HE
Abingdon United Devs v U23s - Southern Regional D1N, 2pm, Northcourt Road, Abingdon OX14 1PL
No fixture scheduled for the U18s (sigh). It must be so frustrating, eight weeks without a game due to the weather, gaps in the schedule and teams scratching. Christmas always takes two weekends out. They do have a game next Saturday.
After the Firsts' loss last week, to be champions they would have to make up nine points on Ascot, and win all remaining eight games. The latter is quite possible but it is hard to see Ascot dropping any more points. Apart from Wycombe (2-2, 2-1) and, strangely, struggling Badshot Lea (1-0), Ascot have won all other league games by at least three goals.
Woodley are having a good season, one point above the Chairgirls, but they are prone to leaking goals, 30 in their 10 games. Games between the two teams can be a battle, last season both were draws (1-1, 0-0). Woodley's disciplinary record is much improved this season, four yellows, one second yellow and one sin bin. Last season they had 15 yellows, one second yellow, one red and two sin bins. The Chairgirls have two yellows this season, one last season.
Abingdon Devs, who last played on 1st December, have won six and lost five this season. In October they beat the U23s 4-0 in the reverse fixture at Burnham.
Axelle Courlander and Kayla Potter (2) the scorers, before Woodley got a consolation. That is a good result against a tough team, probably on a sticky pitch. Jordanne Hoesli-Atkins made her debut, joining from Reading where she was captain this season. Jordanne played for tier 4 side Ashford Town last season, so another good signing.
That win sees the U23s remain in third place. Leaders Beaconsfield Town beat Slough Town 10-0 at home today.
In the Premier, the Firsts move up to second place. On a day of county cup games, the only other league game in this Division saw Reading record their first points of the season, with a 2-1 home win against fellow strugglers Selsey, to move out of the bottom two.
Apologies, I overlooked the fact that, yesterday, the U18s played in B & B Girls' Cup QF, losing 6-5 at Chesham United. Wargrave, Reading Orlando Belles and Reading Memphis Belles are the other semi-finalists.
Goals from Woodley. The third goal went in with the keeper lying on the ground, after injuring herself. You would expect the referee to blow up, perhaps he was about to but, once the goal went in, it was too late and the goal had to stand.
Comments
Woodley game has been postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
The U23s game at Abingdon was also postponed.
