  • A preview of this weekend's games, and a look back at last weekend.

  • FT Cambridge United 1-2 U18s

In other game in this cup group, Oxford United won 3-0 at Cambridge City.

  • FT Selsey 1-3 Firsts (HT 0-3)

A good response to last week's opener, goals from Bobby Lynch, Ashleigh Harte and Eman Kassem. Selsey scored on 90+5'.

  • No sign of the U23s result yet. Nothing on socials and the FA "Full Time" site, which hosts all the leagues, crashed just after 4pm, as it sometimes does when everyone is posting and viewing results.

  • Just on Twitter, the U23s beat Kidlington Youth 4-1. So a win for all three teams this weekend.

  • Full Time site is back. Ascot followed up their 11-0 win last week with a 5-1 victory at Portchester. Next Sunday the Firsts host Ascot.

Shannon Read scored all four goals for the U23s against Kidlington. Next Sunday the U23s are away to Ascot Reserves. Ex-Chairgirl Tara Woodward scored four in Penn & Tylers Green's 9-1 win against Chesham Devs. Freya Harris scored again for Beaconsfield in their 3-3 draw at Tilehurst.

  • Ouch. Porchester looked decent against us last week, so if they got spanked by Ascot... Hopefully the girls aren't on the receiving end of a score like 11 nil.

  • 12 of Ascot's 16 goals have been scored by what look like four new signings this season. They have signed well this summer.

  • This weekend's matches.

    Saturday

    U18s v Cambridge City - JPL Cup, 10:30 am, 1878 Stadium, Burnham SL1 8JG.

    Sunday

    Firsts v Ascot United - Southern Premier, 2pm, 1878 Stadium, Burnham SL1 8JG.

    Ascot United Reserves v U23s - Southern Div1N, 2pm, Racecourse Ground, Winkfield Road, Ascot SL5 7LJ.

Last season Ascot Firsts had the huge disappointment of losing their final two games, to finish one point behind champions Bournemouth Sports. Three of their new recruits top the league scorers chart after two games, Olivia Glover (4), Leahy Littlechild (4) and Leah Robertson (3), with Georgia Luckhurst McCord on two. Last season, the Chairgirls lost both league games to the Yellawomen, but did beat them in the FA Cup. Adults £5, U16 free.

  • FT U18s 1-3 Cambridge City

  • I'm at The 1878 Stadium for my first, long overdue, visit.

    The Chairgirls line-up against Ascot.

Two new signings come straight into the side.

  • 17', Ascot take the lead with a 35 yard shot, after the ref had whistle in his mouth, about to blow for a foul to Wycombe, but didn't. Nothing Amber Taylor in goal could do about that, way above her.

Good opening by Wycombe, on the attack and not letting Ascot settle, forcing three corners.

  • Superb goal on the break.

  • HT 1-1, a good half for the Chairgirls. They look a bit tentative at the back, and Ascot's much vaunted attack have wasted a number of good chances, but the Chairgirls are dangerous going forward and could have scored another couple.

  • Good scran here, and alcoholic drinks available pitchside!

  • 59', WW 1-2 AU, ball broke to striker, who slotted past the keeper. Chairgirls had a golden chance on 50', header from corner just wide.

  • FT 2-2, a really strong second half from the Chairgirls, on the front foot most of the time, and will be disappointed not to win. Potter could have had a hat-trick. Both new players had very good games, speedy Kassem really impressed on the left wing. I think Ascot were a bit surprised, if not a little rattled. A very competitive game and a good watch.

  • FT Ascot United Reserves 5-3 U23s (HT 3-2)

Precision finishing from Potter for the second.

  • Opposition match report.

    https://ascotunited.net/yellawomen-pegged-back-by-wycombe/

More on the two new players. Kayla Potter joins from London Bees (Barnet), where she spent two seasons as a striker in tier 3 National Southern Premier. Before that she was at Hounslow.

Danielle Puddefoot is a very experienced midfielder, last season at Stoke City in the National Northern Premier, and also at Chesham United. For the two seasons before that, she was with the London Bees.

  • This weekend's matches.

    Saturday

Oxford United v U18s, JPL Cup, 2:30pm, Oxford United Training Ground, Oxford Road, OX42RL

    Sunday

    Firsts v Milton United - FA Cup 2QR, 2pm, 1878 Stadium, Burnham SL1 8JG

    Penn & Tylers Green v U23s - Southern Div1, 2pm, French School Meadow, Elm Road, Penn HP10 8LG

Last season, at this stage, the Firsts had a tremendous victory at Ascot United in the FA Cup. This season, Milton United visit the 1878 Stadium, after beating Slough Town 4-1 in the previous round. The Miltonians lost 8-2 at Kidlington Youth last weekend, in their first league game of the season.

The FA Cup is also pay day, win or lose. The women's prize fund, in the early rounds, is similar to their male semi-pro counterparts, and is a vital source of funds for amateur clubs.

The U23s have a tough local derby at PTG, who beat Chesham United Devs 9-1in the league last week, and won 5-0 at Caversham in the FA Cup before that. Penn were due to play Long Crendon in the FA Cup on Sunday, but have been awarded a home walkover win.

The U18s visit Oxford United, on a grass pitch. In the other match in this group last week, Cambridge United won 16-0 at Goffs Oak.

  • Whilst the standard of woman's football has improved no end on the pitch over the last few years, the same can’t be said of the goalkeepers.
