Just watched Dan Udoh’s interview. He comes across so well. Admitted he had a stinker in midweek and then explained how Matt Bloomfield had supported him, suggesting he might have been trying too hard and to just relax and play his natural game.
We’re so lucky to have these players and Matt Bloomfield representing our club.
It's absolutely crazy. People are entitled to their opinions of course.
He was one of our best last season and I remember people being worried every time he wasn't playing. Let's remember too that he we signed him because he didn't want to keep playing left back for Shrewsbury. He ended up playing most games at left back for us (without complaint), and scored lots of goals!
He gets a nasty injury, comes back, and now he's not good enough?!
I realise the bar has been raised, but Luke Leahy has the quality to play for anyone at this level.
It's a squad game, and I can't think of many better backup options that I'd prefer than LL.
On the pitch Shrewsbury were pretty terrible. When 3 goals get put in so close to the goal line it’s either your keeper or your desire that’s at fault. Fred’s goal in particular was just a case of him wanting it more.
When the spoilt we struggled a little. When they tried to play we tore them apart. It was as simple as that.
Kone was shackled by Pierre pretty well but that only works if Kone is the only source of goals. He’s not. And Pierre looks so unfit he can’t play that game for 90 minutes. He chased back one attack and was blowing, a shadow of himself.
Great fans. Great fun. Easy journey home. Always are when you have won so handsomely.
I can't wait for the documentary after Blooms wins the WC with England in 2030, where it is explained that it might not have happened but for a Fleetwood player getting himself sent off in silly fashion at Adams Park in late 2023.
Well, we were excellent all over the park. Pattenden played his best game for us
Very clinical and really great to see us going for more and more goals.
I think Hartridge should start left back and leave Leahy in midfield next week.
With Morley and Scowen potentially out, think we will need him there. Also Hartridge is more likely to do the overlapping runs that Harvie does so well.
We’re very lucky to have Humphries. I do hope he stays for the season…suspect a few Championship clubs may start to sniff around him
Hopefully Ipswich will take the view that, for the sake of 5 months, Humphreys is better off in a strong League One team rather than trying to bed him into a Championship side. I'm not an expert in these things, but his current situation has got serve his development well.
He had a very good match today, no doubt about it, and I think he's good captain material, even though he maybe comes across a little more hot-headed than JJ or Bloomfield (no more so than Scowen or Grimmer though so maybe Matt likes that sort of character in the role). But if all three are fit and in form I'd have Butcher ahead of him in the midfield and possibly Bakinson too. I just find Leahy generally misplaces too many passes when he plays in midfield. Today was not one of those days and that's great. But we were also against poor opponents - Bolton will close down and seize on misplaced balls better. I think it's a moot point, Leahy will probably be left back. But I don't think the case for Leahy as first choice reserve midfielder is as cut and dry as you make it out.
As an example of how dire things are for Shrewsbury, they would need to hit the equivalent of a season-long 66 point pace (which would have been good for 10th last season) the rest of the way to get to 50 actual points, or a 58 point pace (which would have been good for 15th) to the get to 45 actual points.
Maybe I’m misjudging his skill set as we haven’t seen him that often but I’d have thought the biggest disadvantage of playing Hartridge at left back is that he wouldn’t give you any sort of mobile attacking threat.
Morley definitely out. Scowen still a doubt. I’m a poet and know it.
Leahy to attacking left back. Bakinson into midfield. (Getting better with every game and, being a six footer, a threat or at least a nuisance, at corners and set pieces.)
With Caleb scoring, nine of the ten outfield starters from yesterday have scored at least once this season in the league - and all nine of them have scored in games away from home. Goal threats from everywhere.
Just checked, he's missed 8 out of 33, so he's on about 76%
Regardless of all that, he's missed his last couple. What he did years ago is less relevant. I think it's time for Richard Kone to step up and take them. Not least because it will help my bet and pay for the next few seasons season tickets (exorbitant price hikes notwithstanding)
If memory serves me correctly (highly unlikely at my age) there was a spell last season when we missed 3 successive penalties, all taken by different players. My overall point is that some of the best players in the world miss spot kicks (as England fans will testify) so to undermine Leahy’s record as one poster did is unfair. However, if he’s lost confidence in taking them that’s another matter and perhaps Kone is ready to step up to the task.
Fair enough. And I'm a big fan of Luke Leahy. One of many excellent signings in recent times, and a thoroughly good bloke as well
I think the biggest compliment you can give him is the observation many of us had that not long after he joined us it felt like he'd been at the club for years, so well did he fit in to the culture
Jack Grimmer would be another who fits that description
On another topic, I was at the game yesterday so didn’t hear the commentary but I was delighted to hear Sam Avery being praised. I was asked to meet Sam a few years ago when he was still at school and I was very impressed with his desire and determination to forge a career in broadcasting. He is a humble and likeable guy from a lovely family and has achieved his ambition despite asking me for advice! With him and Phil we are blessed with two excellent commentators.
What was that great stat that Phil pulled out in the interview with Humphreys last week? He hasn't lost a league game for 2 years? Since he played at Adams Park for Ipswich, in fact.
No great surprise given how many goals we've got overall, but we've scored 3+ in four away league games this season. No other team in League One has done it more than twice.
I was at the Shrewsbury game yesterday. I can honestly say that I felt really sorry for Gareth and Dobbo. How they are going to claw back that points deficit is beyond me. I know WWFC are good, but just how poor were Shrewsbury! It really was a men against boys performance. Looking at their team, apart from Pierre, they were nearly all skinny "runt" like in stature compared with ours, whom appeared to be muscle bound by comparison.
I genuinely wish GA & Dobbo to succeed but fear they are treading uphill in treacle!

Great away day out.

Enjoyed today, not a bad journey from ours and a ground with easy access and a quick getaway.
Just read through the thread and it's a blow Harvie's out of Friday's match. Thought both full backs done well today.
Haven't seen any of the goals back but loved the 3rd. Was right in front of us and only one player was getting his head to that cross.
Not seen anything mentioned about the atmosphere, but thought it was really good in the away end today. Good numbers and the best bit was NO Drum!
That's 43 goals we've scored in the league now.
Interestingly, Stevenage sit in 12th having only scored 15 in 18 games!! Only conceded 17 too!

Exactly my thoughts but maybe wrong as I haven’t seen that much of him since early season.
Morley definitely out. Scowen still a doubt. I’m a poet and know it.

Leahy also has a penalty conversion record above the average of 75%.
Does that include penalty shoot outs?
Just checked, I think it does. Looks like success rate during 90 minutes is 85% (I thought 75% seemed low)
What is Luke Leahy's success rate?
With Caleb scoring, nine of the ten outfield starters from yesterday have scored at least once this season in the league - and all nine of them have scored in games away from home. Goal threats from everywhere.
Another area where Franco is letting us down.
Just checked, he's missed 8 out of 33, so he's on about 76%

Hear hear.
Wasn’t there a fourth missed too, that we were mysteriously allowed to retake? Either at the start or end of that run I think.

Fred, Taylor, Morley and Humphreys are all still unbeaten in League games since signing for us. That’s quite something. It’s nearly 2025.
What was that great stat that Phil pulled out in the interview with Humphreys last week? He hasn't lost a league game for 2 years? Since he played at Adams Park for Ipswich, in fact.
We’re on the pitch when Jasper scores is what I’m reading here
No great surprise given how many goals we've got overall, but we've scored 3+ in four away league games this season. No other team in League One has done it more than twice.
And our position is made all the more impressive by the fact we've played 11 away and still only eight at home!
