I think one of the toughest elements is the schedule. With only about six teams even approaching "bad" (when half the division seemed imminently beatable on any given day last season), Shrewsbury may have to make up those ten points by getting some wins at places like Birmingham, Barnsley, Bolton, Huddersfield, Stockport, Mansfield, Wrexham etc. (I am sure they have already played some of those away but can't be bothered to look up who) There are just not enough "gimme" points available.
To get to 45 points (which may still not be enough) they would need 34 from their last 27, so every loss (and there will be many) just pushes that closer and closer to promotion form being required.
I'd feel differently if they were starting more or less level with other sides in a weaker division, but a 10 point deficit to safety in a strong division - especially in a four relegation spot L1 where one additional team needs to stay in bad form for them to overtake - is a simply enormous ask.
Bear in mind they also did just have a six-pointer with a poor Cambridge side and were utterly roadkilled 4-1.
One of the things Sam’s style does so well is to accommodate radio listeners as well as livestream viewers. This, I am led to believe, is a difficult trick to pull off successfully.
From what I witnessed at the match, he won't get any funds for the current squad and if he isn't going to receive any monies to buy players in January then he is going to have to rely on freebies. Might get McCarthy on a free from us, unsure on Wheeler as I am not sure Bloomers is ready to let him go yet. It is far more difficult to persuade players to go to a bottom of the league club so I just can't see where the playing staff are going to come from when there is a 10 point deficit to make up? 🤷♂️
……and a team that was drawing with the champions elect until an 85th minute goal from Cameron Humphreys on 21 September, my birthday. They will survive.
I see it was that ear-cupping shoosher from the game at AP who scored their late penalty. His similar celebrations on Saturday are, of course, forgiven 😃

I suspect GA will look for three to four signings in January.
centre back, centre mid and centre forward to be the new core of the side.
They’ll start to get some results end Jan/Feb and will be difficult to beat.
It’s what happens between now and then. They have some tough games over next five weeks.
I think they’ll finish the season strong and take it down to last few matches and who knows.
head says they are going down but having seem here for 11 seasons, you just never know.
Also to point out..'his' 'default brand of football' is not 'obsolete.'
This is a fact. Not a 'flymofact'
I mean, the game has evolved beyond hoofball. We weren't playing total hoofball by the end of his tenure - so he does have that adaptability in him.
Ainsworth does not play 'hoofball'
You are shamefully disrespectful to one of the greatest managers of the game.
With respect your comments smack of 'socialmediareadabookabouttacticsoncepoppycock'

I love the Americanisms in this analysis
Well I am half American and live here, so there is that! If it's any consolation, I try and spell the 'ou' words out. 😁
"especially in a four relegation spot L1 where one additional team needs to stay in bad form for them to overtake"
Was this put between dashes (-) or whatever they are called to flag it up?
Or is it just ai?

In this case I used it to indicate an "aside". It's not an Americanism.
I was referring to the content (the reference to dashes was an aside)
'a four relegation spot' is a wonderful phrase I have never heard in my life
Are you really saving Ainsworth is one of the greatest managers? Or one of our greatest managers? There’s a massive difference between the two.
Quite clearly one of the great managers.
No Asda cards. Not saving anything
Unbelievable comment. Brilliant for us but come on, you cannot be serious.
Your history exposes you
Next you'll be saying JJ wasn't better than Roberto Carlos. Silly.
It is already one the club's best ever CB pairings.

The Cambridge team that is so poor that it then became only the second team out of eleven to take a point at the Racecourse this season?
... and the first to score two goals there since we did on the first day of the season.

Great pic.
