I still don't understand the objection to the discussion of interesting rumours concerning our manager. If we stick to reporting facts, wouldn't we just be a news site? This has been a really excellent thread, to my mind. After all, Blooms was the favourite for the Coventry job at one point, and it has led to spirited discussion and debate over his tenure with us, his trajectory, the relative attraction of a club like Coventry, and his relationship with the current hierarchy at Wycombe. All of this is fascinating to me.
Speculation, discussion and hypotheticals can actually be really useful for framing a current situation in new and interesting ways.
He was odds on when the Guardian article came out (though we all know about how the odds shift over small bets in manager markets) and Coventry fans had a good day or two of pearl clutching over the prospect!
No offence meant, My point was that needless speculation is pretty much what we do here. I know we like to think that our shared tactical insights are adopted by lurkers from the coaching team but it's unlikely.
Don’t get me wrong. My thumbs-up there wasn’t by any means a suggestion that your comments are uninteresting. But I find your business/finance related comments often go above my head and that second sentence was a welcome and perhaps rare example of the kind of lighthearted, self-deprecating humour for which @Wendoverman, for example, is so admired.
No need to explain yourself. Think we generally have a decent mix on here of attempts at insight (however misguided or biased it might be) and the light hearted. Sure we're due another pun thread before long.
You and me both @wingnut (not being able to attend matches I mean) but I spend ages (far too much time) reading stuff on line, especially the Gasroom, of course, and I thoroughly enjoy the cut and thrust of controversy and speculation.
I learn a lot from other posters who are not as naive as I am and this has been brilliantly exemplified by the corrective posts that have followed the following post of mine which failed to take into account the potential loss of trust in the owners (on Matt’s part) that the sacking of his own choice eighteen months ago as head of recruitment may have engendered.
it really isn’t. A local rival in a high league will compete for the same players we were after. Plus Mr Mitchell will be able to tip them off over another release fees amongst our players.
Wasn't there another bloke who left before and they were obviously going to poach all our best players as he knew their contract clauses/favourite bistros/gym and teeth whitening preferences?
Yeah, Phil Alexander. Anis went there soon after, but there aren't many secrets in this game - if there's a release clause, it's going to get found out one way or another.
January is definitely set to be interesting and exciting, with three of our loanees playing such a prominent role (and Kodua set to kick on if he can get back to fitness).
No matter what happens, I would guess that we have an excellent reputation among loaning clubs now, given our hit rate of development and game time, so even if we lose someone, I would expect a decent replacement.
Comments
Are you new here?
Far from it but I can no longer attend matches so don't feel able to offer much useful comment, although that doesn't seem to put a lot of people off.
And, funnily enough, I see we both joined the Gasroom in February 2015.

Even if we stop reporting rumour, it's possible to discuss opinion.
Fact, 😆.
Well aren't you a sweetheart!
And if rumours offend, there is an option not to click on the thread rather than click on it only to say it should not exist.
Also fact. 😁
You mean we’ve done nearly 20 pages and not gone off on a tangent about roadworks on the A53?
@Shev was he actually ever the favourite?
I would have been, like the late Queen often was, 'shocked and stunned' if he'd been appointed.
We should think ourselves lucky that the Shrewsbury job has been taken! 😉
I think we stuck to the task pretty well, all things considered, though one or two delightful rabbit trails are always a necessity!

I miss @Boosh

I think that was when the good doctor deleted my account by mistake rather than when I joined.
Have been on this and the older place for ages, one day I may even post something interesting.

Acknowledgement to @eric_plant.
Well apart from @aloysius’s words of wisdom obviously
Scott Mitchell now Head of Recruitment at Oxford according to LinkedIn, pleased he got another job so quickly.
why are you checking him out of linkedin? are you a prominent member at the club checking up on him?🤔
it really isn’t. A local rival in a high league will compete for the same players we were after. Plus Mr Mitchell will be able to tip them off over another release fees amongst our players.
morley to oxford in jan then
that kind of fear
More interested in your reasons for asking this rather than his post!

yes, and a matter of days later Bristol City magically came up with Anis Mehmeti's release clause
Yeah, Phil Alexander. Anis went there soon after, but there aren't many secrets in this game - if there's a release clause, it's going to get found out one way or another.
We're never more than five posts away from all our best players leaving in January.

I would be more worried about bids for Franco, Low and Kone. Anybody know how long they are contracted?
