I'm certainly not advocating for a 433 and it wouldn't work til next season anyway but if Kone kicks on and Vokes remains with us for another year, there's something tantalising about the prospect of Vokes playing with Hanlan to his left and Kone to his right.
As one or two have said (@Glenactico, I think?), some of the most satisfying positives regarding Kone concerned how he brought others into play and made little dummies and slipped in clever passes. It just seems as though he is going to be a handful anywhere across the forward line.
At Wembley, I'd like to see Scowen breaking up play, Potts creating, Sadlier and Gmac up the wings, with Vokes and Kone causing havoc in the box. And Grimmer, Leahy, Taff, Low at the back. Pole in the goal. Wheels, Taylor D, KP and KVY gagging to come on. Forino central back-up. Rav reserve with the gloves. One 'golden' bench space reserved for the youngster with the best attitude over the campaign.
Let’s not get over excited or indulge in ridiculous hyperbole. I will only say this - for a player stepping up five divisions that was the most exciting debut I’ve ever seen.
Ok then... But looking forward 15 years, I see an emotional presentation on the pitch as he finally hangs up his boots, after breaking Bodger’s club goalscoring record, as a huge banner is unfurled across the Lomtadze Terrace Upper Tier, simply saying: “Monsieur Wycombe”.
Was that the game where we had a player on loan from one of the midland clubs at left back and we won against the odds. I remember Steve Brown being there on the concourse. He’d just been signed but didn’t play on the night.
I may be completely wide of the mark but I certainly recall being at Craven Cottage one evening decades ago and it being an exciting if unexpected victory.
That was a pairing who could easily have been the forward line for a Championship club, or dare a say a lower PL team.
Mooney had everything a centre forward should have. Skills and confidence in abundance and a brilliant footballing brain. I used to love his trademark windmilling arms whilst closing down a keeper, more often than not instilling panic, forcing them to misfit a clearance
What he lacked in pace was more than made up for by Easter.
@micra, Duncan Horton was the left back, who came from Barnet. He went off injured at HT. Terry Evans suffered his long term injury in that game. It was a very exciting match, Tim Langford scored a brace in his finest game for us, Hydey with two saves in the penalty shoot-out. A great atmosphere with 2,000 away fans behind the goal.
I was sat with a mate in with the Fulham fans that night, was trying to be quiet the whole game, but by the end of the match they all knew around us we were Wycombe fans. Tbf, they were fine, and very complimentary at the end.
So many great memories from that match but it had escaped me that it marked Simon Garner’s first appearance as well. Incredible to think what the team achieved in that first season in the Football League, including THAT second leg v Coventry in the League Cup, reaching the FA Cup 3rd Round, winning promotion via the play-offs…all in addition to cramming in a run to the area final of this competition when it was truly competitive. Absolutely phenomenal.
My thanks to you @Steve_Peart and to @HolmerBlue and @johnkerrsdivingheade for filling in some important details. For some reason I was in an enclosed executive area in a corner to the left of the main Wycombe support with Tony Stallwood and sundry other friends. I vaguely remember seeing Steve Brown in conversation to our left and discovering subsequently that he had signed for Wycombe.

Echoes of Bayo and Kashket's purple patch.

”Hanlan to the left of me
Kone to the right
Here I am stuck in the middle with you”

Not to mention the fact that his crosses were belters.
Brace yourself for some more!
They were. He looked a lot more than a one trick pony to me. Roll on Saturday and him coming on from the bench against tired defenders.

Underrated comment. Some puns buckle under the pressure, but not this one.
Forget that Post Office stuff, we need a petition to change the club name to wyKOmbe waNdErers

Not forgetting Mooney and Easter. My all time favourite double act.

A great night indeed.
Delighted that my pick of Gideon Kodua as MoM for West Ham has joined us until the end of the season.
