I totally agree. L2 also has less jeopardy, with two relegation spots instead of the four in L1, so managers are more likely to be given time (in theory) if it is clear they are building up. I could see GA going to someone like Wimbledon and taking them back into L1, buying himself more time because of the achievement.
IF the Reading job was to come up with new funding coming in, feels like a great opportunity for someone. Like it or not they are a Championship sized club so someone could boost their CV very well there if they get the timing right. f Ashley came in, difficult man that he is, I would bite his hand off for that job. Whether now is the right time to take the job rather depends on what is happening behind the scenes.
Sack the existing guy on Saturday evening. Appoint a Spaniard working in Sweden by Monday. Almost as if they had made contact with the Spaniard and decided to sack Gareth long before they told him.
"People know there are only two clubs that would prise me away.
"QPR being one of them and the team we play on Saturday being the other. That's the irony of football." Talking about Blackburn, he supported them growing up
However, I've heard him talk at prizing givings (when he was still at Wycombe) when he's been asked by the kids (& a few parents) where he'll think he'll go after WWFC and he said "Sometimes life chooses for you, I know things don't last forever and I might have no control. However, if I could decide, it'll be a club like Wycombe where I already have strong roots in. But I'm not looking at the jobs out there, I have a job at Wycombe, I know what we can do & where we can go, its my job to get us there"
This was off the record and could have been a rehearsed line, I don't know 🤷♂️
What tempts him away from a settled job with almost total control here and what he'd consider instead of twiddling his thumbs are probably very different.
QPR definitely had the other guy lined up btw, their statement sacking him talked about making a quick appointment. Not totally unreasonable tbh, think we all knew it was coming.
A few years from now, with Wycombe well established as a Championship side, and Matt Bloomfield has left to become head coach at Premiership Ipswich, I would have no problem considering GA for a return , providing he’d since gone on to have success at other clubs after losing the QPR job.

QPR appoint Marti Cifuentes from Hammarby as Gaz's successor
Who and from where?

Sorry if I missed it, but did anyone mention Darren Ferguson in the long list of managers who succeeded on return to former clubs?
Hardly replaced Ainsworth with a name and clearly in place for some time?
I think I can hear Neil Warnock throwing things around his house because noone from QPR would return his calls! 😜

That would have been awkward if QPR had somehow managed to beat Leicester

👆 exactly
John Coleman in his two spells at Accrington. How he kept them in League 1 and sometimes top half for so long is beyond me.
Derek Adams (wash my mouth out) seems to be doing well at Morecambe again.
Mad Dog Martin Allen ~ five spells at Barnet
We don't give a shit and we don't give a fuck
Cos we're going home with the FACup

Shakespearian
The correct words are "the Berks and Bucks"
No shortage of berks
Devonshire left Maidenhead and then went back
Gareth Ainsworth to Oxford anyone ?
@Stewie63 in this mad world we live in..imagine
Another League One playoff final.
Oxford v Wycombe
Ainsworth v Bloomfield
Blooming hell
It would be very bizarre, and I struggle to see the match in playing style, moving from Manning to Ainsworth.
Is oily ok?
I think he told the club that with so many recent 1st round failures, no-one would get a poem unless we make it to the second round. Worked a charm!
Eric Morecambe gives a wealth of material. Can't wait
correct! poem will be in place for R2. Or i may save for the semi-final vs Everton.
Ever the optimist. There's absolutely no chance Everton are getting to the semis...
