I would prefer Ashley to any Arabs or Georgians. At least generally, he runs clubs sustainably with a view to making him a profit. However, to eventually make a profit he needs to get his club into the Premier League so at least the supporters get a few years of success.
This is basically what Rob's original pitch to us when buying Wycombe. Unlike Rob, Ashley however has the financial means and acumen to be successful.
He wouldn't be a good choice unless they're happy with the bare minimum and their infrastructure ending up an awful state - as Newcastle's did. He won't bankrupt the club, but he won't grow them either.
Ashley structures the club to help his other businesses, I was told once he pulled out of Newcastle they had to totally rebuild almost every aspect of the business.
When he sold out he left them in exactly the same League position as when he bought them but with debts anywhere between 400-700M less than other teams in the middle/top part of the table.
Only owner to win any kind of silverware in nearly 70 years, albeit the Championship title twice.
His biggest mistake was not growing the club commercially.
The narrative that he kept it real and did well for Newcastle was overdone, they lagged behind most clubs of a similar size in their commercial income largely because of his penny pinching and fondness for involving his own companies, advertising revenue? Nope, Sports Direct logos everywhere Kit deal? Nah, we can knock some shirts out, making him returns not the club, they also made some horrible appointments and individual decisions alienating fans and the community, and did nothing at all for the long term infrastructure. Credit for promotions when a club of that size should never be facing relegation is odd.
He's probably still a better bet than the current guy, at least he has some money and is occasionally in the same country. If they do get him they can probably expect debts to be cleared and people to be paid on time, They won't need huge transfer fees or wages, certainly compared to Newcastle. if he gets lucky, they get promoted in the next couple of years and then someone else takes it off his hands for a profit everyone will be happy, not generally that easy though.
Scottish FA Cup 2R on TV tonight, Musselburgh Athletic, of the East of Scotland Premier, against League Two Clyde. Sixth tier v fourth tier, Musselburgh are going well in the league, Clyde are bottom with one win. A sold out tie and a recipe for an upset! 7:45 on BBC Scotland, iPlayer, Sport Online.
And Jude Bellingham wins the Kopa Trophy for best player under 21. The main prize should be his next year - terrifying to think how much he could still improve.
3-2 to Clyde aet, Musselburgh put up a good performance and matched their higher ranked opponents in the 90 minutes.
One thing I've noticed about Scottish football are the hard, honest tackles, but players get up and get on with it. No rolling about cheating. Another thing are the many clubs with three, two or even one sided grounds.

Bayern scored 8 goals in 37 second half minutes against 9 man Darmstadt. Bayern were down to 10 for 86 minutes.
Great watch
Mike Ashley's helicopter has been spotted at Reading. Those poor sods.
Real sign you are in deep when that actually looks like an improvement.

Mike Ashley would run Reading, like he did Newcastle within budget and not at a huge loss every season.
That would probably mean Reading having financial stability but never getting much higher than lower table in the Championship or high end League One.
Would be a great move for them.

The fact that he's even sniffing around tells you that Reading are in very, very deep shit.

@Steve_Peart enjoyable game, rooting for Musselburgh to win as that's where my Mum comes from
Lionel Messi wins the Ballon d'Or for the eighth time. We are so priveleged to live in his era.

Or can be purchased for a much cheaper price rather 6 months ago!
Looks like Everton's new ground will be the scene of absolute carnage if they ever score
Don’t worry. The risk assessment will have showed the unlikelihood of that prospect.
(If it is as steep as it looks in that picture that is genuinely scary).
I'm hoping it's just a deceptive camera angle!
Saudi Arabia look set to get the 2034 World Cup unopposed. The true spirit of the game 😍
Most likely a false alarm, If it was actually at that angle as shown then the roof would block anyone at the back from seeing the pitch.
Yeah it's the camera angle.
Coming on nicely now.
