Saw ‘24 new posts’ so made a rare visit to the thread expecting to be introduced to some more obscure (ie non-mainstream/commercial) groups but only got (the) Rezillos.
Will have a listen to see what’s exciting young @Steve_Peart.
Youtube “Music” offered me the delightfully titled “Somebody’s gonna get their ‘ead kicked in tonight” which scarcely filled me with eager anticipation.
I survived 30 seconds or so but my head had gone into a strange rapidly reciprocating motion and what’s left of my hair flew around as if in a gale. At that point I made my excuses and left.
Seemed totally inappropriate for someone of @Steve_Peart’s generation but life is full of surprises. Shocks even.
I’d rather watch Strictly (and that’s really saying something) !
Thing is @micra, many of those folk who got into Punk and New Wave when it was first around, would now be into their 60s (and still pogoing around).
I'm of the musical generation immediately before that, whose preferred style was often totally different (and castigated by the newer generation of music fans).
Beatles for me initially (‘60s)), Genesis (‘70s), Dire Straits (‘80s), Queen (‘90s), to name but a few but the jazz scene has dominated for the last 35 years or so. Half a dozen weekend breaks and Festivals a year until about five years ago.
Huge collection of classical stuff (vinyl and CD) as well. Not many live performances though.
@micra, it's a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song, covered by many bands. It's a bit tongue in cheek. I found this note.
"Somebody's Gonna Get (Their Head Kicked In Tonite) is a song by Jeremy Spencer, featured as the b-side of Fleetwood Mac's Man of the World in 1969. It is a rock 'n' roll pastiche and also marks a rare occasion when all three of the group's singer/songwriters at that time (Spencer along with Peter Green and Danny Kirwan) featured on a studio recording by the group.
Jeremy Spencer was known for his uncanny imitations of rock 'n'roll singers such as Elvis Presley as well as the blues musicians whose music had influenced the early Fleetwood Mac. In accordance with his dramatic style, the recording was credited to Earl Vince and the Valiants."
@NewburyWanderer, I'm probably from your generation, at the time I was heavily into Bowie, The Doors, The Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd amongst others. I now appreciate lot of 50s and 60s music as well. The first record I bought was Sylvia by Focus. Funnily enough I heard it played at Partick Thistle last weekend, they play it every match before the teams come out.
Punk and New Wave was my time though, it was so much fun. If there is one thing I am proud of, it's holding what I believe was the first "Punk Rock Disco" (what an oxymoron) in mid-Wales. Upstairs in the Farmers Arms in Aberystwyth, the landlord had to call time because he thought the pogoing was going to collapse the wooden floor.
Another of our favourite groups - Fleetwood Mac - featured blues man, Peter Green in the early days before mental health issues (?) and disagreement about the direction the group should take led to his departure. I don’t recall Jeremy Spencer or Danny Kirwan.
Man of the World is an excellent track but I’ve never heard the other side as we stopped buying singles and EPs about fifty years ago!
Man of the World to heads being kicked in is one hell of a stretch!
We are currently watching a recording of yesterday evening’s Strictly. I’m not into ballroom dancing meself so I’m just listening. Mostly very much our kind of music. We were at the Curzon Centre yesterday for a jazz supper. I had a text from our daughter saying that she was now officially old as she was watching Strictly.
Are you a Ska man @Steve_Peart or is that a step too far. Quite a few low level routes in to that via Madness and similar as well as huge back catalogues from the real deal stuff from the west indies.
I really like Reggae @StrongestTeam, but also Ska. I've got some records of The Specials and The Selecter, but haven't delved much into the source music.

The the The
'The The' at the beginning of a sentence, 'the The' in the middle of a sentence imo.
What if you're telling someone you were at the The The gig last night?
Oh Christ....
10/10 well done everyone.
The, The?
Who?
No, The Who! 😊
Brilliant!
The National have just dropped their second album of the year - anyone else seeing them next week?
So they have! Yes, I'm off to see them in Leeds on Saturday. I will give the new album a spin today...
I'm seeing them at Ally Pally next Wednesday and I'm already exhausted from slogging it up that sodding hill
Haven't they installed their chairlift yet?
Just spent the evening listening to my “House of Love” collection for the first time in ages. Magnificent stuff...
Ticket bought to see the Rezillos in Leamington in November. Excited.

Hopefully the live performance @micra! A fun band, perhaps more pop than punk, free of politics and with a strong sense of humour.
Probably the best live band I’ve ever seen @micra. Certainly in terms of getting the crowd going. (A long time ago admittedly)
Well, goodness gracious me !

Jazz supper , nice 👌
A Peter Green penned Fleetwood Mac song of which a cover you'll enjoy is Green Manalishi. The Judas Priest version will be just up your street!!
Thanks @RuyLopez but I prefer Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit - the video recording with the manic head banging, seat hurdling audience.
