Saw Rollins do spoken word a couple of times, his tale of going to William Shatner's for a barbeque is hilarious.
DK's Jello Biafra did a spoken word piece back in the late 80s titled 'Why I'm Glad the Space Shuttle Blew Up' that's far more thought provoking then the title suggests.
Just finished reading Remain in Love by Chris Frantz in which he mentions that while touring the UK with the Ramones in 1977, they made a detour on the way to their gig in Derby to have a drink at The Old Trip to Jerusalem. The Talking Heads and the Ramones having a pint in Nottingham! (All except Johnny Ramone who apparently spent the tour staying on the coach refusing to sight see and when she arrived knocking his girlfriend about. Allegedly.)
They also enjoyed playing the Friars in Aylesbury....no mention of High Wycombe though. Sorry.
@flymofrank mentioned a band a couple of weeks ago but I cannot remember the thread. He was very enthusiastic about them - think it was a one word name - and I am curious to have a listen.
That’ll be it. Two word name. I’ve heard loads of band names on this thread that I’d not previously heard of.
Being mainly into jazz, classical (just me really) and all the commercial mainstream pop and rock, we’re unaware of what to us is the more obscure stuff.
Pink Floyd, Queen, Fleetwood Mac and, back in the day, Beatles, Stones, 10cc, Kinks, Yardbirds and Searchers. Plus numerous other groups that don’t now come readily to mind.
Must give Vampire Weekend a whirl although I suspect I did so about a year ago when this thread started.
I went to see Juan Atkins last night, he was terrible. Very sobering coming outside to the carnage of a 100mph fatal hit and run right outside the club just 5 minutes earlier.
I found a video on YouTubeMusic of a couple of numbers (Hannah Hunt and Walcott) performed at a Rock Festival in Belgium in 2013. Huge following. Picked up the f word fleetingly on Walcott but, given that there were plenty of family groups, it would be churlish to be offended !!
Had a very pleasant couple of hours watching Vampire Weekend videos on YouTube. Great through the big speakers and several of the videos were excellent visually. One of our favourites was the 2010 Glastonbury performance. Reading less so.
We were unable to find anything more recent than 2013 which was disappointing.
Now there’s a blast from the past! I actually felt more drawn to Stars of Heaven at the time (maybe I leant towards the more folksy feel) but I do like a band that unashamedly sings in their natural accent.

I went down quite an interesting rabbit hole on Bad Brains yesterday. That debut album is another proper classic of the era.

@flymofrank Have you ever seen the documentary A Band Called Death?
I have not. I'll add it to the list!
I'm sure everyone's all over this already, but.....

Enjoy!
This site is brilliant, thanks @eric_plant
There are some amazing stories on there, this is just a taster:

Adam Ant fans beat up the local skinheads after they seig heiled during the set!
On the subject of gig-related violence, I re-discovered this brilliant Keith Richards clip last night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ_P1vfZYo4
I wonder if there are any of those skinheads on the Gasroom. 🤔

Johnny Ramone was a nasty twat apparently. Joey wrote The KKK Took My Baby Away about him having started dating his ex.
Wikipedia says no.

The only band I can remember mentioning on here recently was Vampire Weekend, I think in response to @bookertease

I think they have quite a cross-generational appeal - you can hear a lot of Paul Simon in there, among other influences.
The closing three songs on the first self-titled Vampire Weekend would be my suggestion as a starter. A superb finish to the album
I haven't listened to either of the first two albums in ages - album three is my go-to.
Although if you are sensitive to swearing maybe give Walcott (the song) a miss…
Actually @micra (and again careful of the swearing) but they are one of the few bands to do a song actually about grammar! (Oxford Comma)
Thanks for all the pointers. I’ll report my reactions later - probably tomorrow.

Enjoyed it on phone. Will share through floor standing speakers with mrs micra this evening.

Are they still going strong?
They are - new album coming next month, in fact
@LeedsBlue In case you hadn't spotted it, there's a Microdisney documentary in the BBC4 dad-rock slot at 10pm on Friday. I am made up.
Equally relevant for the great-grandad-rock demonic, perhaps?
Not demonic but I know the word I want ends in ic 🤷🏾♀️
Hope I don’t have to wear makeup.

Might have mentioned this before, but Stan from the Stars of Heaven is a home and away Wycombe fan
Demographic?
