Tjay in the Gibraltar senior squad for this week's trip to the Mediterranean. First a friendly in Malta and then travelling to Greece for a qualifier. Could think of worse places to spend a week in September.
A lot of people used to (and still do) call Nottingham Forest Notts Forest. Nottingham is a city, not a county. There’s another club ‘representing’ the county.
The wider football following public have never acknowledged (and probably never will acknowledge) those facts.
Most (?) Forest fans (and pedants like myself) shudder ever so slightly at the sound of Notts Forest but there are slightly more serious matters to shudder about (however slightly) these days.
But, whilst on the subject of terminological ínexactitudes (or thereabouts!) how about this from the fabled Bucks Free Press:
Hope this is legible. [Remember all those illegible players, years ago !!]
Particularly like CHAIRGILS but the incorrect year for Burnham’s 1878 stadium (confused with our recently formed cheerleading group) takes the biscuit.
Last week, the opening of a new shop (a bakery named Wenzel, I think) was said to be opening on 12 September alongside a photograph of the shopfront announcing, inter alia, that it would be opening on 20 September.
You’d like to think that is generally true, @eric_plant but inevitably there’ll be exceptions and I expect @Wendoverman is bracing himself for a barrage of wind-ups the next time his beloved Forest are mentioned on the Gasroom.
One thing you definitely can be sure of is that he will respond with customary wit and worldly wisdom.
Not sure Henderson's interview in the Athletic was a great success, but I've only read the articles about it. Apparently, the former LGBTQ champion is sorry if he upset anyone by joining a country where they are jailed...and it wasn't for the money. Its a real shame there were not enough challenges or exciting projects in British football for a multi-millionaire player.
He's gone over there to soak up a rich cultural experience a million miles away from his normals. If only more people did this it might change their exceptionally narrow views.
Plus he recognises the chance to be an absolute pioneer of this new league that could grow to be one of the biggest in the world.
Rather than just be one of many who have played for Liverpool in the dreary English top flight.
The funniest thing is that players who were already earning grossly inflated sums the average person wouldn't earn in a lifetime, only now have to start trying to defend it!
'With my financial future already assured, I really wanted to go back and help my boyhood club Sunderland back to the top flight where they belong but once Stevie G called, I could not pass on the chance of this exciting project in a country where women are subjugated, human rights are regularly violated, free speech is stifled, protesters are jailed without charge and are often tried without being given the chance of a defence, and sometimes executed, so I could, in some small way draw attention to those injustices. £700,000 a week tax free never came into it...'
I lived in the KSA for a year because I was interested in experiencing life outside my comfort zone. I didn't live in a compound and spent a year in a city centre apartment living in peace with my neighbours who kept slipping 'Jesus led me to Allah ' pamphlets under my door. It was a happy coincidence that I happened to be skint when I went over there.
Comments
Correctly predicted - manager and assistant gone.
It wasn't a prediction... he was sacked this morning

Chairgils? Some kind of odd fish? I get how some of this stuff goes out online but you'd hope they still had editors checking before printing.
I guess it’s mainly down to time pressures and skeleton staffing. [Make of that, what you will!]. AI perhaps.
i’d happily proof check but only the football reports (and then only those relating to the Wanderers!)
i’d be a waste of space.
Next week, CHARGRILLS perhaps.
Mermaids
What people definitely do not do is refer to them as Notts Forest to wind up their supporters
If Notts County represent the County of Nottinghamshire, then they have to be the senior side?
Chairgils! Great - now I am having nightmares about a club merger with Gillingham!
I struggled with that, @mooneyman. My ‘solution’ was to put representing in inverted commas but you’re right. I misrepresented their status.
Also, I’m never sure whether county should be capitalised.
Life’s too short!

Up the Forest.
Both teams struggling to find some form but ninth in the table. So far so good. I'm always braced for something or other @micra.
Whatever you do, don't look up why Ian Evatt is trending on Twitter
Look up Wycombe new signing instead 🤣
Has he done an Ian Botham?

He's an absolute tool. 'I wore the laces! I wore the armband!'
I buy what he's saying.

It's a lot warmer over there tbf. Or is it? I'm about to pass out in this weather
To beat weatherman @micra, in Dammam it is currently around 42c.
It's amazing how many "it's not about the money" folks end up in Saudi Arabia instead of somewhere without much money like Bolivia or Trinidad.
The funniest thing is that players who were already earning grossly inflated sums the average person wouldn't earn in a lifetime, only now have to start trying to defend it!
One of the top Bolivian teams is called The Strongest - why would you not want to go there?!

£700k a week untaxed!
Could you imagine.
Just for 2 or 3 weeks of that, and the rest of your life an absolute cruise of relaxation.
Not far off the UK to be fair.
