They let Toney play on for about 6months after his betting came to light didn't they?
These Paqueta allegations could be levels above just mere bets he placed himself. Will be interesting to see what happens. But I bet (!) West Ham wish they'd sold him a week back before this broke!
Gabriel Veiga - who is generally regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe - has gone to Saudi at 21. Several proper clubs were in for him. Depressing.
VAR is absolutely dreadful for football as I used to enjoy it. I barely watch live TV games these days and it's even worse on the radio. Obviously enough people still suck it up so it won't go away but this example shows one of the main reasons it should never be in place. It is so open to manipulation- it also creates unnecessary delays and kills passion.
Why oh why do the authorities not see it like this? It's probably related to money.
But that Mike Dean admission has done so much damage to the refereeing profession. It's a good thing he's no longer employed by the PGMOL (well, I assume not as he keeps popping up on Soccer Saturday) or he'd be sacked.
VAR came about got various reasons, but one of them is that fans moaned and moaned and moaned about incorrect decisions (with justification much of the time).
Even in the hands of what you describe as competent officials, VAR has fundamentally changed the way fans celebrate and react to their team scoring a goal.
Quite right. The video review system works perfectly well in other sports such as cricket, rugby, and NFL, where the slow motion replays are shown on a big screen, and everyone can see what the officials are looking at.
But football, the world's most popular sport, has been way behind the times in embracing modern technology, and has come up with a poor implementation of it, which creates more uncertainty than it solves.
A toe or a knee offside giving the player an 'unfair advantage', waiting five minutes to attribute or chalk off a goal and big teams still getting the big decisions from referees on the pitch and in the VAR suite.
But also often without justification, egged on by clueless pundits who don't know the laws of the game and called for "consistency" at the same time as "common sense"
Football matches officiated by highly qualified humans who occasionally made mistakes was absolutely fine.
The price to pay for getting every decision correct was far too high, and as we've seen it hasn't even ended up with every decision being correct.

Hmm, one to keep an eye on

Just seen Northampton’s winner against Peterborough from yesterday. Couldn’t happen to a nice bunch!
Chelsea summed up perfectly https://twitter.com/Exploding_Heads/status/1693596698990313494
The Exploding Heads are fantastic, makes Twatter, sorry X, bearable, along with Jonathan Pie.
They are, especially their politics stuff

Not for everyone. But a very well written article I thought about English football culture
And thought might appeal to anti Peterborough experts like @ReturnToSenda
And the old bastards on here who remember the 70s 😉
I remember the 50s, so what does that make me @LX1!
Enjoyed that, a good read
A wiser and more experienced man than I @mooneyman. Most certainly so!

Could be worse. He could have ended his career at Chelsea.
Has anyone else noticed the bottom of L2? Makes for fun reading. To think, they could have been challenging under Blooms!
If C#lU go down there will be one almighty party. Will be fun to see if they can win the Conference again
The state of refereeing in this country https://twitter.com/FootballRamble/status/1694970257629380665?t=9A1-k_OnYpKutRB15-QXSg&s=19
In summary then, VAR:
means that on field referees are reluctant to give decisions as they know they can be checked
but also means off field referees are reluctant to overturn decisions so as not to embarrass their mates
What an amazing system. Anyone claiming to still be in favour of surely trolling at this point?
When I think of true matches, couples that are absolutely meant to be, I always think of "VAR" and "The Bin".

VAR is fine in the hands of competent officials, which we don't have, so I'd bin it.

For that reason alone it belongs in the sea.

But it's not as if VAR has stopped that. Most decisions are still subjective.

Not for me. Other opinions are available.
