I feel for Jonny. He was in imperious form before his freak injury. His form and luck has since deserted him. If ever there was a moment set up for him it is this morning. Go on, son.
Oh Bairstow and Root, what have you done...... Root hasn't looked the same batsmen since Edgbaston when Stokes declared! Bairstow needs to go back to County Cricket and get some game time into his Glove work and time in the middle with the bat. Just remember that while he plays in all of the T20 leagues, he doesn't keep, he's used as an opener.
I really don't understand why the selectors and management don't look at who is performing in the 4 day game. When you pick one-day specialist, they don't have the stamina (mentally or physically) to last the whole 5 days. This was proved with Ali in the 1st game where he got issues with his fingers? The excuse of "They don't have the experience at this level" well the only way to change that is give them a game and see what happens!?
When you've only had to bowl 4 overs in a game compared to 30 overs in an innings, your hand / fingers that you use to spin the ball will def feel the efforts.
Looks like Robinson is unlikely to bowl during the imminent Australian second innings. Back spasms, I think I heard. Suppose he might do a Lyon and struggle to the middle for a few balls.
Short ball again. This has to be a technical issue. There are 2 players stood there begging for the ball. It's either over-confidence in the shot or plain stupidity.
If England had simply been average with their catching and avoided swiping at the short ball, they would be about to clinch a 3-0 lead in the Ashes. I can't ever remember being this disappointed in an Ashes series. For starters, we almost always simply get blitzed down under, but we have not lost at home for 20 odd years and before that it was the Aussie domination period. To be so primed to win, but simply hand test after test to the Aussies is sickening.
Foakes should never have been dropped. Firstly you have to play your best keeper, who is in any event a reasonable batsman. Secondly, it was unrealistic to expect Bairstow to continue as a front line batsman AND keep wicket after such a long time out injured.
In my opinion Bairstow should have been selected as an opener in place of Crawley. Crawley does not have the technique required of an opener, although we currently have few, if any, that are.
I think we basically lost the series (barring miracles) with Stokes ridiculous declaration on the first day of the first Test.
Unfortunately I am unable to comment because Today at the Test was scheduled for 11.05 (which is bad enough) yet at 11.50 we’ve still got some run of the mill tennis. What is going on BBC?
Whilst Wimbledon is on. I guess it’s back to the usual slot at what you guys probably consider a reasonable hour for the final Test (if we haven’t all lost interest by then).

I thought he put down two chances today, one of which was straightforward? I did not watch either, but he has not been getting rave reviews.

Oh dear, Jonny. More naivety. It’s a five day Test Match. That ball should have been left but he couldn’t resist going fishing.

I'm not sure stamina has much to do with getting blisters on your spinning finger?
Moeen’s spinning finger definitely lacked stamina.

Ah, I see what you mean! My bad.
My bad? Where did that hail from, @ReturnToSenda ?
Whatever happened to mea culpa? We all know where that came from.
I'm in favour of 'mea culpa' making a comeback, but I might feel like a bit of a prat if I try to start the revival.
Sounds pompous, don’t it.
Desperate stuff from the vice-captain. Did he not check the change in the field before playing that shot? Seemingly not.
And Morgan’s voice suddenly sounds quite irritating!
The short ball is such a dumb out for this English team.
And can we put the Bairstow debate to bed now?
Only because, unfortunately, we have no alternative but to rest our case. Foakes has to replace him.
I keep getting confused between Foakes and Woakes and all these blokes whose names rhyme with Stokes.
The moment that Foakes returns to the team, yes, we can stop talking about it
Nearly time for Sam Vokes.
They should have played at Loakes park
all good blokes
I believe Sam has a mean inswinger.

And I can't see Stokes bowling too many

Exactly how I feel this. They are no better than us, but we are just giving it to them. Basically bottling it.

Have you got BBC4 @CarParkPete? They are showing it on there at 1900 rather than BBC2.
