While I remember, does anyone happen to know the story behind the two blocks of flats in High Wycombe named Curtis and Sumner House? They've both got the Factory logo at the entrance, but I can't find any obvious connection between Joy Division / New Order and the town 🤔
To be fair @HolmerBlue I was earning £1.29 pence per hour at that time. Sadly beer inflation has outstripped wage inflation by a factor of over two in the interveening 40+ years.
Wow, I remember those sessions. It was behind The Merlins Cave. Was Hank, the American owner/landlord around in those days? I was domiciled in that village for around 15 years, so we may even have bumped into each other at sometime. 🤷♂️
These are both relatively new names - although the buildings are older they were converted and first sold as apartments in 2017 which, from looking at Google street view, is when the names and logos first appeared.
I remember when my favourite tipple of stout and mild was a couple of Bob (10p). I once drank three pints and, disgracefully, took a young lady home on the back of my sporty Vespa GS. (60 mph downhill with a following wind.). After a great session with Acker Bilk at the Albemarle Club at the long since demolished White Hart.
That jingle they play that goes on for about 40 seconds at the start of their Wycombe podcast. Sounds like an early Marillion outtake. But probably the best music I’ve heard on there.

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing that!

What the?!
That’s amazing
I repeat, what the?!
I wonder if they have a FAC number.
But where’s Hook House? And The Other Two House?
That was pretty much my reaction when my tiny brain eventually made the connection
While we're on the subject... 40 years of Blue Monday today
Might be related to the famous Joy Division High Wycombe Town Hall Gig in 1980.
Joy Division concert: 20th February 1980: Town Hall, High Wycombe
Was anyone on here at that gig?!
£2.20?!
That is incredibly cheap, even for the time. About the equivalent of £12 today!
Pah, nothing.... I remember when it was 60 pence for a pint !
An Ideal for Living? Are you taking the piss?
No FAC numbers. The only ones containing ‘house’ are a couple of house wines from the Haçienda and a track by Duritti Column.
Amazing spot this.
@HolmerBlue I remember when it was 19p a pint for mild & 20p for bitter
Imagine seeing that !

Yeah to be fair, I was probably only on about 50-60 pound a week at the time as well

The plot thickens
My first proper wage was equivalent to 138 pints of Adnams a week.
My current wage is equivalent to 344 pints of Black Sheep a week.
Life is good…
But how many pints would the equivalent starting wage buy you these days @bookertease?
Good question to which I don’t have the answer @Erroll_Sims
i can compare it with the starting wage of my first job on the railway. That equated to 156 pints (still Adnams) (At 32p a pint in 1980 Norfolk)
Current equivalent role starting wage 211 pints (Black Sheep £3.20 a pint in South Yorkshire)
May be different at Wycombe prices.
Credit to NUR and it’s successor RMT methinks

New rule: nobody is allowed to nominate anyone from Wycombe Sound
Peak local radio.
